  1. Just an observation, but the rumor we heard concerning State was that event tickets would be sold out in less than an hour. Maybe I am missing something, but the stands look around half capacity?
  2. Hopefully that loss is exactly what Snyder needed. He has looked a little flat the last few weeks.
  3. Kind of on the same subject, nothing was called, but I could not believe how many wrestlers threw fits, were forced to shake hands with their opponents, or failed to shake hands with the other coaches after a tough loss in Fort Wayne yesterday. I understand shaking hands with the opposing coaches is surely not a rule, and premier wrestlers in college rarely do it, but I believe it shows class, respect, and sportsmanship. I didn't see anything too concerning with the victory celebrations, and rather enjoyed the 220 backflip.
  4. Other than 160, looks like you nailed this one...
  5. Any thoughts on match of the day?? How did the numbers finish for the Elkhart/Westview Sectionals?
  6. Also have the family matchups between PH and West Noble... All of those Rasler boys should be good. It is too bad they are all in separate weight classes! Still could make for some interesting family gatherings though the holidays. Keep an eye on D Rasler from WN, he had an elbow injury most of the season last year. If he is healthy, he should be in for a good season.
  7. We lose a few here and there to 4H or FFA. Several of the weekend tournaments are on "Showing" days.
  8. Prairie Heights has to be the favorite considering how last year ended, plus they always seem to re-load every year. Curious to see how many NECC wrestlers make the first set of rankings. There are several individuals at almost every NECC school who are serious competitors.
  9. Prairie Heights is bringing back several of their top wrestlers, and re-loading with incoming Freshmen. It should be a great Team State all the way around.
  10. My son graduates this year, and has balanced football, wrestling, and baseball all through high school. After his freshman season of wrestling, a coach said he had the potential to be a great wrestler if he concentrated on wrestling throughout the year. I tried to push him to do this, but luckily he resisted and I left it alone. He still wrestled in summer tournaments, only about 10 pounds heavier than during the season. The next year the football coach told me the same thing. I actually said that if they began telling the athletes which sports to play, they may not like which ones they choose. I think it is a little easier at the larger schools to concentrate on one sport through the year, but at the smaller schools, sometimes there are just not enough athletes to go around. He went on to have a great high school career in football and wrestling, and now has turned it on in baseball, and I am glad I was able to follow him around through all three sports. On a side note, I have two boys, and they are two years apart. I bought an old wrestling mat from Craigslist and set up a small area in the basement. My boys go down there and beat the he** out of each other all through the year. Best $50 I ever spent....
  11. Sorry to hear about this, thinking about you guys over there.
  12. I hate to tell an athlete to only concentrate on one sport. Of course you have exceptions, but for the vast majority, high school or college will probably be the end of highly competitive sports. You only have a few years to be young, and then it is on to the real world. Enjoy every minute of it while you can!
  13. Still haven't heard why most others are classed and we are not? Does it bring more competitors and fans in a classed system? Are most states just not as smart as us? There must be some reason why we are one of the last to class.
  14. For the sake of argument, what are the reasons that most states have gone to class wrestling? What advantages to class wrestling did they see? Who are some of the more recent states to move to class wrestling? There must be something to it....
  15. I would agree with these choices. What a great tournament.....
  16. http://s300.trackwrestling.com/tw/VideoPlayer.jsp?TIM=1456235045150&twSessionId=wfqgwdzbbxlprka&matchId=3990226104 Here is the track link to it, unfortunately it looks like you need passcode. This was a great match!
  17. Not to take anything away from him, but the story states: "I was going to try and play basketball (in high school), but I realized I was too short for it and probably wouldn't get too far," he said. "I got the chance to join the wrestling team in middle school, and ever since then, I've been a wrestler." Although it doesn't say what year of middle school. Once again, he was fun to watch, and the sky is the limit for him!
  18. Great recovery! Best of luck in the future, I am sure it will be fun to watch!
  19. They also picked up an Indiana State Champ in Garrett Pepple....
  20. Burlington coach Jade Gribble said in the Journal Sentinel article that he thought Bird was struggling on his injured knee. “There was a level of frustration and he let his emotions get in his way today,” he said. “You hate to see anyone finish his high school career like that.” It looks like his own coach conceded that his wrestler was in the wrong..... http://myracinecounty.com/?p=20840
  21. Deserved the DQ... I'm sure it would have been nice to go after that 3-peat, but displays like this hurt our sport. Hopefully he learns a life-lesson that will help him be a better person in the future. I also did not see anything regarding targeting the bad leg.
  22. Just think of the money from all the Dip-N-Dots they could sell by keeping the entire crowd until after the final match.....
