wrestlerswife reacted to SWINfan in For those that don't follow the college board....
There is a nice appetizer for wrestling fans tonight to prepare you for tomorrow's Regionals.
On the Big Ten Network (free) Michigan wrestles at Penn State tonight at 7:00 ET.
The matchup with feature 3 of Indiana's best studs in recent years:
- Stevan Micic going at 133 for Michigan. Micic is ranked #1 in the country coming off his National Runner-Up finish last year. Stevan is 9-0 on the year after nursing an early season injury.
- Nick Lee will go at 141 for Penn State. Lee is ranked #7 in the country and will face #5 Kanen Storr. Lee is 19-1 on the year while Storr is 17-3.
- Mason Parris will go at 285 for Michigan. Parris is ranked #7 and 23-3 and will face Anthony Cassar who is ranked #3 and 16-1.
Big matchups for both Lee and Parris. Micic will likely get a Penn State backup after Roman Bravo-Young tweaked his knee last weekend at Purdue.
Check it out and head over to the College Board for updates on this match and updates on many other former IN HS wrestlers.

wrestlerswife reacted to hook and half in Nebraska at Penn State Jan 20th - Chad Red vs Nick Lee Round 2
Loved it when Lee climbed up on the rail at Rec Hall and flexed to the audience. How about when Lee’s dad ran in front of the TV camera and posed?
Exciting!

wrestlerswife reacted to Y2CJ41 in #2 Perry Meridian vs. #4 Mater Dei
All around it was great to watch some high level wrestling and have a great quality stream and commentating. I put it on my big TV and sat on the couch and watched great matches all night. Big thanks to all those that made this happen as I can't wait to do a few more this year as we expand into streaming a little more.

Castle is not beating Mater Dei. But I love my Castle boys.

wrestlerswife reacted to XCard in Weight cut
Everyone is inevitably going to make some type of weight cut in this sport, however I do agree with you Jenny that the extreme cut from kids should be stopped. Most of those guys that are cutting that much weight are probably still a top tier kid in either weight class. So why go thru the misery, and it is misery, of cutting all that weight. I can tell you from my personal experience, experience with other athletes, and with my own son, that my preference is going to be wrestle up the weight class. Feel good at practice all 5 days. Optimize that training time and let the weight come off progressively. Of course as mentioned here too, hit that weight room, because there is nothing that replaces strength at any level. I also disagree that there is no pressure from coaches and parents for most kids to make the cut and the decision is solely theirs. Maybe they are not aggressively telling them to make the cut, but not advising them otherwise when we know their decision make that cut, is a poor one, is just as bad. As Coaches it is just as much our responsibility to correct these bad decisions as it is to correct their wrestling technique.

wrestlerswife reacted to Matthew Nelson in Hoosier boys Super 32
Im super proud of our Indiana Boys.
I watched most matches and followed kids that I didnt know before this tournament, as High School is a new atmosphere for us.
I saw everyone of these kids wrestle their Butts off, and they gave the competition the full fight.
I dont think any of them under performed. They left it all on the mat every time, and I was extremely impressed with the heart they all have.
Indiana is on the map.
They may not have accomplished their dreams this time, but they are on the right path.
Everyone of them should be proud of the way they wrestled.
We should all praise them for the sacrifices and dedication they gave to fight at the Super 32.
After watching these kids wrestle this weekend, I cannot wait to watch each and everyone of them this season. I am rooting for them all.
From up North all they way to down south, I am proud to be a Hoosier.
Hats off to our Hoosier boys.

As some of you may know, a family from Castle lost their home this week. CUSAWC is going to host Double HL (Humpday Head Lock) Camp on Wednesday, Feb 21st from 6:45-8:15 at CHS (enter door 21). We will have celebrity coaches showing the greatest headlocks known to mankind. .
We are asking for a $20 donation for attending camp, but this is not mandatory. We’d love to have a room full of guys to battle, raise some money for a wrestling family, and have a good time.

wrestlerswife reacted to hook and half in Evansville North Took The Regional From Castle--How Did It Go?
The lower-level of North’s gym is not of an optimal angle for viewing wrestling. To worsen the matter, table help and folks milling around interrupt the view. If you go the upper tier, there is still vision obstruction and you are VERY far away from the action.
Castle’s gym is far superior; there are no bad seats.
The table help struggled during the first round, but worked out the kinks as the day progressed.
I’m not sure what was up with the loooooong break at the end of the first round. BTW- If you are at the end of your life, I suppose listening to U2 ballads and “Something in the Air” by Phil Collins is good to listen to while you are waiting for the morphine to kick in. To keep the adrenaline pumping for a high stakes wrestling match—not so much.
Down a flight of stairs, across the gym, down another flight of stairs and a 2-minute walk and you are in the restroom! Check that, you are not! You are in a line to use a restroom that was overwhelmed, filthy and smelled as if Satan had died there.
I have been to Castle for many, many tournaments. Never have I waited in line, nor were the facilities in disrepair.
The only saving grace was the North volunteers. All of the folks I encountered were friendly and there to help.
Weighing all factors, North is a pale comparison to a Castle-hosted event. Castle gets an “A”; North gets a “D+”.
Thank you, IHSAA, for diminishing our regional.

wrestlerswife reacted to BlueBolt in Castle Sectional Realignment - Positive Spin
A lot has been said about the realignment of sectionals this year. I honestly can't argue the confusion it has caused amoung the fans as to what the IHSAA may have been smoking when they came up with some of these moves. But they did, so here we are.
As has been noted, Memorial, Boonville, and Heritage Hills fought it out all day to finish 2-4 with an 8 point total spread. The battle for 2nd and 3rd wasn't decided until the final match of the day! Makes for an exciting day for the wrestling purest.
Hats off to Evansville Bosse. This is a program that was on its way to the history books just a couple years ago. No one wants to see a program fold, and Bosse has refused to Go Quietly Into That Dark Night. We all love an Underdog...Even if it's a Bulldog. Much respect.
Evansville Harrison...What can better describe the love and dedication to a High School Wrestling Program than the Warriors Head Coach. Harrison is young and hungry.
Tecumseh and South Spencer are both in rebuilding years and have some kids that are tough outs all the same.
Wood Memorial and Washington are the new kids. Wood Memorial has been in this sectional in the past. Smaller schools, but have a history of producing very capable individuals. Truth be told, we haven't lost anything in making the switch between Wood Memorial and Washington vs Tell City and Reitz this year especially.
Teams ebb and flow from year to year. Every program has a relative dip in talent from time to time. These changes are actually positive for the sport in general as it keeps things fresh. Keeps interest alive.

wrestlerswife reacted to SouthSideJimmy in Here it is folks...The Dirty South!
By being 9 - 12.
I wasn't going to say anything, but this sort of thing pisses me off. People want to be critical of things and jump all over others, what the poster did in this case was provide us with something that no one else on this board has. A listing over every name in the Evansville Semi-State currently available to him. Hell of a lot more of an effort than I see from others around here.
Someone takes the time to put this out there and the admins want to be douchebags about it. How about you spend more time bring us actual info on whats going on and less time being critical of others.
Are there errors in the listing? i am sure they are. Are those errors the fault of the person posting it? No. Is this the ONLY time the majority of these kids will see their names in print.
-
wrestlerswife reacted to BlueBolt in Here it is folks...The Dirty South!
I ain' worried about it. Everyone's record isi 0 - 0 now anyway.
I do have to agree that it would be nice to see a statewide listing of sectional entries on this board, just to get the kids names out there and recognize them for their efforts

wrestlerswife reacted to SWINfan in Evansville North Regional
I think that is a good idea. However, I think there is resistance because North has not even hosted a Sectional. It would seem to make more sense if they rotated the sectional between Central and North a couple of years before awarding and moving the Regional. With no actual knowledge of the current state of the North program other than recent history, it seems fair to me to wonder if they have enough people/staff to pull it off well.
The other thing that comes to mind is why the change was made. Is someone looking for a cheaper option than the Ford Center for the Semi-State and trying to use North as a test to see if they could take it over? Is there reason to believe they may not be able to continue using the Ford Center (for whatever reason) and this is a preemptive move to try to see if North has the facility, the ability and the desire to take on the Semi-State and keep it in Evansville? Could someone be thinking 3-4 years down the road?
One might think it would make sense for there to be a reason given for the move but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is it common for the IHSAA to take events away from a school without an explanation?
-
wrestlerswife reacted to hook and half in Evansville North Regional
I’ve always been a fan of central wrestling; not a fan of their gym. It’s dark, dated and the seats are far removed from the action.
whats wrong with a north sectional?
Terrible decicision to move the regional.
-
wrestlerswife reacted to SouthSideJimmy in Evansville North Regional
I am most likely the wrong person to make this comment given my school does benefit from this, but moving the Regional from Castle to North seems to be unpopular at least, and not well thought out over all.
North's facilities are really nice, but I am not sure they will be able to handle the kind of crowds that have packed Castle's gym in the past. The hospitality and over all vibe of the Castle Regional has been among the best in the state for many years also. Something about that tradition will be lost I am afraid.
I realize the IHSAA is "Spreading the Wealth" but I can't say this particular move is a really great one based on the tradition and over all drawing power of packing Castle's Gym to watch the Meat Grinder

wrestlerswife reacted to hook and half in Hook's SIAC Picks
Posturing for the post season, revenge, swing matches, a tight team race and bad puns galore! Everything you could possibly want is RIGHT HERE. Let’s do this!
106- One of the most anticipated finals will be at 106 when Mater Dei’s Kaleb “With a K” Hinderliter should meet Castle’s Devon “Lightning” Casebolt. MD fans liked Hinderliter’s 5-3 win at the dual meet, while Castle fans like Casebolt’s tenacity and look for the Knight to turn the tables. The SIAC title will not settle it! Expect these two to bang heads again, before this season ends.
Reitz’s Wade “Sville” Schneider and North’s “Battle of” Shiloh Stasi meet in the first round. Both have put together solid freshman campaigns and could shake up the bracket.
Destiny “‘s Child” Garris, “Uno, Dos” Trey Jordan, Hunter “Fried” Rice and “Obi” Kiwan Short complete the bracket.
113- Memorial’s senior, Seth Horty “Hears a Who”, is the top dog at 113. Horty eventually pinned Mater Dei freshman “Sugar” Kane Egli in a wild and entertaining dual meet dustup. If Egli can get past Castle’s Brooks “Achy Breaky” Hartz, which will be no small task, he will get another shot at Horty.
Cameron “Atic-tac” Amento, Junior “The Sophomore” Ordaz and Chris “Not the Actor” Tucker will slug it out to reach the podium.
120- Castle’s Neal “Real Deal” Bealmer claims the one seed by virtue of his fall over Mater Dei’s Eli “Charles” Dickens. Dickens has put together a stellar campaign, defeating many ranked opponents. Dickens wants revenge; Bealmer is dangerous.
Mark Hall “Way”, Tristyn “McGregor” Connor and Ira “401K” Stasi fill out this abbreviated bracket.
126- Castle’s Carson “Whatchu Talkin Bout” Willis has quietly put together an impressive 29-1 record. One of his victims was Mater Dei freshman Matt “Lock” Lee, in an extremely competitive match. Look for these two to hook up in the final.
Drew “French” Horn, Christian “Stevie” Nix, Nick “Knack” Renshaw, Jacob “Shaw” Shanks and Tyler Wright “Brothers” will search for a podium route.
132- "Sweet” Kyle Luigs boasts a spotless record and a 4-2 win over Reitz’s Caleb “007” Craig. The Blue and Grey would love to see Craig put an “L” on Luigs. Harrison’s “North Carolina” Tarhel Brockers and Central’s Brayden “Yerhair” Bethe will meet in a tough, first round race, while Castle’s Matt “Johnny” Kincaid and Memorial’s Jayden “Hug And” Kissel meet in another toughie in the opening round.
138- Bob Harmon looks to top the podium with his Castle freshman, Robert “The Jeweler” Deters. Mater Dei’s Nolan “Double” Weidner will meet Memorial’s Nolan Schaefer in the semis for another shot at Deters. A single point separated the duo at the dual meet—who wants it on Saturday? Central’s Josh “Applesauce” McIntosh and Reitz’s Clay “Mation” Wellmeier will brawl in the first round. Sam “Tombstone” Elliot, David “Erik” Estrada and Nick “Belfast” Ireland complete the frame.
145- Mater Dei’s Joe “Cause I’m” Happe is the favorite. Memorial’s Nolan Durcholz will get a second shot at him in the semis. On the other side of the bracket, Reitz’s Blayd “Runner” Blair and Castle’s Jacob “Morgan” Freeman should meet in the semis. Beau “Geste” Barrett, Javeon Edwards “Scissorhands”, John “Blues” Klus and Brennan Schutte “And Ladders” fill out 145.
152- Mater Dei’s returning state champion “Morning” Joe Lee brings his reign of terror to Paradise. Sorry guys…it’s a race for second. Reitz’s Kye “Cabinet” Fehrenbacher or Castle’s Clay “Chest” McNutt will have the honor. Sam “I Am” Brockman, Dylan “AC” Carrier and “I’m Just Wild About” Harry Rodriguez will also compete for medals.
160- Castle’s Jacob “Prairie” Farmer gets the top seed, in his home gym. North’s Shawn “P. Diddy” Coane brings his substantial gridiron talents to the mat and should meet Mater Dei’s versatile freshman Macartney “Hey Jude” Parkinson for a shot at Farmer. Also grappling will be Colton “Spicy” Bland, Jacob “Not a Twin” Brown, Jordan Joiner “Kersee”, Andrew “Whamica” Lamica and Tylar Mitchell.
170- Memorial’s Conner “Am a Twin” Brown gets the nod for the one seed. Harrison’s “Legs” Diamond Harris will hook up with Mater Dei’s Wyatt Montgomery in the initial round. The winner earns a date with the winner of the match between Central’s “Mount” McKinley Kemper and Castle’s Carson “Cougar” Mohler “Camp”. Matt “St.” Lewis, Noah “Sark” Reich and Tyler Tasa “Salad” round out weight class.
182- Central’s Kiave Guerrier “And Ives” is positioned for a deep post-season run. In his way is Castle’s 25-4, Will Nunn “Better”. Their final will be a good one! Marcus Eatan “After Weigh-In”, Robbie Helfrich, Jacob Hirsch, Andrew “Dean” Koonce, Alan “Standing” Sitzman and “Peabo” Bryson Williams round out this deep bracket.
195- Memorial senior, Holden “On” Abshier gets the top-seed by his injury default win over Mater Dei’s Kurtis “Call of The” Wilderman—his only blemish on the season. Zakeith “Jefferson” Davis, Kevante “Big Un” Guerrier, Daveiontae Hughes, Nick “Got Questions” Query, Leighton “Dark Knight” Reisinger and Will “Rocken” Rolley all look to earn ribbons.
220- Mater Dei’s Michael “Cowboy” Boots’ 18-2 record captured him the top seed. Castle’s Brennan “Stormin” Norman and Memorial’s Jacob “Cole” Sulawske will duke it out in the bottom bracket. “North” Dakota Devine, Evan “Sville” Gallaty, Ryan “Dropt” Heldt, Luke “I Need A” Huggins and Jeremiah “Bullfrog” Jenkins look to end their day on the podium.
285- Memorial’s Alex “Trebeck” Lichlyter brings an eye-popping 21-1 record to Newburgh. The final will be no cakewalk as Harrison’s Dhezmond Garrett or Reitz’s AJ “Hot” Moesner are both capable of upsets. Holton “Apple” Zoss, Jackson “Priesting” Nunning, Roman “Empire” Graves and Jacob Carter will also look to collect hardware.
Best First Round Matches- Stasi/Schneider, Brockers/Bethe, McIntosh/Wellmeier
Best First Round Match- Diamond Harris vs. Wyatt Montgomery. Montgomery’s season has been dotted by injuries, while Harris is very solid and has a good record to prove it. Either is capable of upsets in the semi-finals…or finals. Jump ball!
Best Semi Final Matches- Egli/Hartz, Weidner/Schaefer and Norman/Sulawske
Best Semi Final Match- Shawn Coane vs. Macartney Parkinson. The senior, Coane, bring crazy athleticism while the freshman Parkinson brings crazy scrambles. Hold on tight.
Best Finals Matches- Hinderliter/Casebolt, Horty/Egli, Willis/Lee and Guerrier/Nunn.
Best Finals Match- I can’t even predict the gladiators. Pick one, in the semis, between Weidner and Schaefer. Then, pick one of them against Deters. All solid, all close matches; pick one.
Team Race- Mater Dei earned five one seeds while Castle claimed four. Swing matches are at 106, 120, 126 and 138—an upset here, an injury there, stomach bug over there means that anything can happen.
Best pick of the day- Castle’s concession stand. I would be remiss not mentioned paper plate-sized pieces of pizza and baked potatoes as big as your face.
Worst pick of the day- My puns. My junior high English teacher read my article from last year. She told me she wished I was still in school so she could flunk me all over again. Donald Trump tweeted “This guy sucks…Sad”
