Lots of talk on Twitter from the Flo minds about the stall calls. Jim Russell is in the conversation for Flo's Wrestler of the Week.
I brought in Jim and Eric McGill for good reason and they did a great job.
Indiana wrestling showed up tonight and on as big of a stage as ever showed the country that we aren't a basketball state. I'm still on a high from everything that went on tonight. Ty Mills PINNING the #1 guy, Brayton's match, Mason just doing Mason things, Davison just smothering his guy, and on top of that our other guys battled hard. I can promise you if those USA guys see our guys again they will now know it will be a war.
Thanks to everyone that came and supported the kids. As was stated above, it was awesome to see us all cheering for the same kids.
Tonight will be talked about for a long time because the Indiana wrestling community is flat out awesome.

    Easier yes, less stressful...no.
After putting together a team at an unnamed event I asked myself how could we go bigGER and we went to the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic. After the PWC I again asked myself(and others) how could we go bigGER...then came this. Not sure what's next, but we are always trying to find new and exciting ways to promote the wrestlers of this state.

Perry Meridian will host its first RTC of the season Tuesday February 27 from 6-7:30.  Two guest clinicians will show some technique and then we will wrestle.  2018 State Champ Noah Warren will be on hand along with 2x champ and 3x finalist Cody LeCount.  These guys are opposite ends of the wrestling spectrum so I can't wait to see what they put together.  Enter Door 1 (main entrance), go straight and turn left to the room.

The difference is age groups and qualifications basically.  Just another way to get some mat time. I generally think this event helped keep some of our kids in the room the past few weeks which is always a good thing.

Hearing some commitments and so far it's a
    Flo/Intermat/WrestlingUSA Senior ranking
    4/3/1 vs. a state semi-finalist
    1/1/1 vs. a state champ
3/3/2 vs. one of our #1's
Once I get the okay to name names I'll start announcing match-ups

Pretty classy a bunch grown men ridiculing a kid who has overcome more adversity at such a young age than any of you will ever have to. Grow up. I’m sure you’d be quick to say these things to his 2 older brothers and father’s faces as well? Highly unlikely.

Dear 138 pound weight class at state finals,

Congrats to all of you, lots of fierce competitors, and you should all be proud! Wrestling is the ultimate teacher of life lessons, so learn what you can from your experience!

    Kris Rumph
You are a great wrestler and competitor and your interview showed some great character.  You have overcome a lot in life and I hope you understand that your wrestling achievements can transfer to anything you chose to pursue in life.  The Melloh family will look forward to seeing good things for you in the future, and will say a special prayer for Kris Rumph today at church.  Looking forward to rooting for you, not against you!
    Blake Mulkey
You are an awesome wrestler. Blake, you have a great wrestling future,  and we wish you the best.  Sometimes things don’t go your way, it will make you stronger if you let it.
    Dawson Combest
We wish you the best at Uindy.  It truly seems like yesterday that you and Zach were battling it out for ISWA state finals.  I miss those days already.  Uindy is getting a good one and we know you will do great in wrestling and school.  Count your blessings son, you have an awesome support group with Columbus East wrestling family!  That’s a good group!  I will always hold Coach Trapp in high regard..... I saw how much he did for you guys with the youth program. What a great guy and mentor!
Lastly, to my son, Zach Melloh
With tears of pride, I want to tell you that I love you and I am so proud of you.  My sadness only comes from knowing this chapter is over.  I didn’t appreciate the ride like I should have while I was living it.......through wrestling, you have helped us grow as a family and expand our faith.  So few people know what you have been through to get to where you were yesterday. But God does and your family does, and we are proud to call you our son and your siblings are proud of their brother.  Part of trying to live a Christ centered life means that sometimes the target on your back gets bigger.  It’s ok, keep fighting the good fight.  Keep grinding and doing the right things in life.  With a heart full of pride for the young man you have become, looking forward to the next chapter.

    Your biggest fan club,
Dad, Mom, Corinne, Alex, and Cecelia

Going over the stats the county stat guru @Indysportsfan has put together.
We lock in the rankings before the state tournament every year. 280 wrestler enter the state tournament ranked. Which at the time of sectionals is just recognition of their season. We do not and will not adjust them.   Not for injury or bad draws. Of 240 ranked wrestlers we lost 7 going on to semi state.
Thank you to everyone who has sent emails and messages. You are so important to the rankings.

Actually, I'll reply to this post since I happen to be one of the parents of this particular individual.  First of all, I will be the first to say that before this season ever started and Myles was going back and forth on whether not he was going to wrestle, the only thing we asked of him was that if he did indeed start the season that he finished it as that is all we've ever asked of any of our kids. We didn't "allow" him to quit the team. He is almost 19 years old and unfortunately he is technically an "adult". As his parents, there's not a whole heck of a lot we can do! Believe me there have been numerous people, past/present coaches, administrators, mentors, that have tried talking to him. We have literally done all we could to try to get him to complete the season. It's easy to point fingers and say "why would they", "how could they"? Sometimes as parents our hands are tied. We have to let them fail on their own, allow them to make those "adult" decisions and pay the consequences. There's no doubt that he will regret this decision one day. We don't support or agree with his decision but we will love him regardless. If this past year had taught me anything, it's this. I will never again say "that won't be my kid" or "why didn't those parents do something about it" because now we are "those parents".

If i want nuance i'll watch a French art film, but when i go to a wrestling meet i prefer to see wrestling rather than pushing and the nuances of drawing stall calls.

If we were to compare these two tough sectionals Avon and Southport.
All of the kids that are ranked in the top 6 in the semi-state at the Southport sectional are ranked in the state.
At Avon.... Two of the kids ranked in the top 6 in the semi-state are not ranked in the state.
For comparison purposes: (since Howie is killing Fabio in the rankings game)
Southport - 16 State ranked kids. 16 kids ranked in the top 6 in Semi-state.
Avon- 22 State ranked kids. 24 ranked in the top 6 in the Semi-state.
Both super tough roads to "The Bank".

Bad idea. I have seen a lot of quality wrestling at 106 & 113 in every region of the state. Can't say that for Hwt and 225, in fact ive observed mostly ms quality wrestling from these groups. We'd rather have David Taylor and Logan Steiber sit so we can watch large unskilled wrestlers push each other towards the out of bounds line for 3 periods?
If anything eliminate 225 for another middleweight.

Just a thought, as you asked for them about the broadcast..I think it would be cool if when you named dropped and you know they're InMat posters you reference their handle as well...ie from last nite..."there's Howie Cottey, great guy" go with "there's Howie Cottey, aka BlueMonster, great guy"....I know longtimers pretty much know who everybody is but as you grow your broadcast and draw newbies into IndyMat (Hello BobbyWrestler!) it could kinda be a cool cross promotion, inside joke kinda thing. Just a cross marketing suggestion, run with it..or not!
Just tryna put that BallU marketing degree to some kinda use.

I thought the officials did a nice job. There were obviously some tough calls. Which there is with any dual especially when emotions run high. I like the bobbywrestler is using the forum to give his opinion. I think far to offen we let things go because of it being a tough job or a volunteer. If you are doing bad call it out and hopefully we can fix it going forward. People tell me all the time my rankings are rough. I take that in stride. Just my opinion.
