  1. i love how the kids don't get to decide. coaches will have their own opinoins. i still believe the smaller school kids would want classed wrestling of some sort, maybe not 3 classes but 2. i don't agree that the coaches should be the dividing factor, i know a handful of schools coaches that aren't even qualified.
  2. i am a small school guy and i would like to see something similar to that. i would like to see something like top 8 at semi-state advance. that would leave the sectionals regionals and semi-state layouts the same and increase the state totals for a weight to 32. that would advance everyone from the ticket round forward. then have two rounds on friday night to knock it down to 8 for saturday. i guarantee they would almost fill conseco fieldhouse on friday night that way. ihsaa could double there money made by doubling the amount of wrestlers. and all regional qualifiers would really bust there tail knowing they would only have to win 1 at semi-state to advance.
  3. its not good to say "grab a whistle and get at it" for many reasons. you chose to be an official and to do your best, if you don't want to do it or are doing a poor job, step down. i agree no one is perfect, but i saw a ton of poor officiating at new castle semi-state this year. blowing obvious calls, making calls to early and in kieffers case to late. decisions made in harveys match were left unknown and from a spectator thats unacceptable. i work a full time job and am unable to fulfull an officialls committment, and i would also have to give up coaching to do it. not even a close decision in my book. but i guarantee i would do a better job than some that i saw doing the state tourney, and they even had two officials.
  4. we might have wrestled you in our middle school program already. to bad that your kids don't get more opportunity in the schools to wrestle, you would be able to get more kids involved. in my opinion numbers are one of the most important parts of wrestling. kids have to have kids to wrestle in practice. if every one wrestled tsirtsis in practice how good would they become. i became better by wrestling better wrestlers in practice. small schools don't have that leisure compared to bigger schools. its the bigger schools whom are against classed wrestling and they shouldn't care because they won't really be affected by change. its the small schools whom it will impact mostly. but about rose hulman i attended only 1 tournament to watch back in the day, no wonder i haven't heard anything for a while. ISU or Rose having wrestling clinincs and week long camps would motivate and help our wrestlers and our kids don't have that opportunity as easily as other communities do.
  5. i would like to see a 250lb. class and have on open heavy weight class for kids who weigh over 285. we have to very athletic 8th graders on our middle school team whom both weigh 300lbs. just a thought to work with.
  6. I still believe if ISU had a wrestling program the local high schools would be better. i know rose hulman has wrestling but you never hear anything in the paper on news. i understand its up to individual people to find out events thereselves, but everyone hears on the radio when ISU has a football or basketball game. thats what it takes for kids to set and see that setting and accomplishing personal goals can happen. i don't believe that to much of these things happen locally. im talking serious goal and serious goals to accomplish them. a good example would be pj montgomery. he didn't accomplish his goal entirely but he put in the best effort year round to attempt. not to many kids have the mental attitude or physical drive to do these things. and i somewhat blame the communities they live in.
  7. wouldn't it be great for terre haute wrestlers and fans to have Indiana State University wrestling again? that is another reason terre haute area wrestling is so week compared to evansville, indy, and northwestern schools. we don't have the opportunity around terre haute as other parts of the state offer. if our kids didn't have to commute so far for extra training(collegiate level training like other kids get). i know isu is broke and are dealing with financial concerns at this time, but wouldn't it be nice?
  8. i agree with you on most except that shelbyville's Uhls will advance, i think Speedways Schall will atleast take 4th. he has beat decker, whom has hung with the others if not beat them, and hes wrestling a guy whom has lost alot of times.
  9. i think you may relook at the perry meridian regional at hwy. there are 4 very good heavy's goin head to head 1st round. essentially elimating 2 from state tourney. ben davis tre taylor vs mike cheh from franklin central, and also perry meridians jordan naughton vs kyle white of warren central. i have studied there wins and losses against each other and cannot pick a favorite. they all have beat each other. but either white or naughton or cheh or taylor aren't making it.
  10. does anyone recall in 2001 when a terre haute south wrestler named Dale Griffin lost in the state championship match? im not sure whom he wrestled but he lost by 1 or 2. with a poor call being a factor at the end. it was either 189 or 215. he was recently killed serving our country in the military.
  11. i have read every page of this post and wanted to add my thoughts or comments. while in high school i was on a 3x sectional champion team. so participating in the team regional is something i know about. being from a 2a school and participation against bigger schools was a regular. at the time of my participation lawrence north and carmel were dominant. so our team state ended after sectionals, never did we win a dual at regionals. and being a volunteer head coach of 1 wrestler at a 1a school in parke county, i have a view point of this. should a school with 175 students boys and girls combined compete in any team event against a school with 2000-3000 students? do the ben davis's and crown points, really have anything to brag about? on another note my junior season "2000" ended 1st round regional after a loss to a westfield wrestler beat me, whom chose not to wrestle me at team regional. allowing him to watch me wrestle his back up enabling him to prepare a game plan against me which ultimately worked. so i think the individual concept of team regional should be different based on that aspect alone. i dont have any thought out solutions, but do agree one is needed.
