  3. Don't forget, tonight, if you need somewhere to practice over spring break in central-Indiana, head over to the east side @ Warren Central for a great night of wrestling!!! Since, ISWA Folkstyle State, we have begun integrating Freestyle and Greco Roman into the mix, thank goodness. Still, with USAW Girls Folkstyle Nationals this weekend in Oklahoma, USAW M.S. Folkstyle National Duals in Illinois, USAW Post Season Nationals in Nevada, and USAW/Cliff Keen Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa and Flo Nationals in PA next weekend....we are going Folkstyle tonight! Expect multiple nationally ranked wrestlers, IHSAA State Champs, Runner-Ups, high placers, and those hungry to get better, k-12, at 6-730p tonight!!!! Please enter Door 14 and the wrestling room is upstairs. See you in a minute!!!
  4. Spring break, WHAT?!?!? We rest when we are dead. This Wednesday, Warren RTC, great facilities, great competition, great coaching, great spirit. See you there!!!

  6. I was fortunate to know Mr. Dowden for a few years and I can honestly say that he was EXTREMELY dedicated to the betterment of Indiana wrestling and our kids. He stood his ground for what he believed in and his career and investment in our sport cannot truly be measured as he did so much. May God continue to to be with Mrs. Dowden and their family as he will truly be missed. Indiana lost a great one and now it is up to us to pick up the slack in his honor.
  7. After this weekend at the ISWA Folkstyle State, we received great interest and bids from over a dozen notable Indiana wrestlers who are interested in competing for a spot on the Junior National Team!!! This is great news as the awareness seems to be picking up. Many are understanding the privilege associated with this event and it is looking like the team may be one of the strongest it has ever been in the past decade. Nevertheless, nothing is guaranteed so it is important everyone get ready for Freestyle and Greco as the season is upon us. If you don't wrestle both, you are not going to be as good at Folkstyle as you could if you did. Plain and simple. Go to the RTCs, go to the local F&G tournaments, push your parents and coaches to train F&G, wrestle at F&G state, wrestle the USAW regionals, etc. Illinois has been dominant over the past several years in F & G, winning both styles at not only Fargo, but the Junior and Cadet National Duals, as well as a 1st and 2nd finish at the Schoolboy National Duals. Although we are not as deep as an Illinois, PA or California, I would put our best Indiana kids up against anyone if our expectations are aligned with going out there on a mission to win a national championship - so let's do it Indiana!!
  8. 2014 Junior National Duals June 23rd - June 30 Oklahoma City, OK Oklahoma City University Freede Center Indiana Overview In years past, the Junior National Duals used to be one of the premier tournaments in the country for Indiana. It was a major privilege competing as a state with multiple IHSAA State Champions, 2xers and 3xers filling the lineup in an effort to bring a national dual championship back to Indiana. However, with the emergence of Folkstyle and Disney, many Indiana athletes and coaches got away from this event and we haven't been maximizing our potential in years past, even though everyone else has. Well, this year is looking to be different as we are focused on putting together an Indiana "Dream Team" to change the tide and reintroduce the privilege of wrestling at this event. We are getting a jump on spreading the word with this post to ensure we are filling the lineup with Indiana's best. We already have verbal commitments from several IHSAA State champions and some of Indiana's nationally ranked athletes, with some using this as their last tournament to represent Indiana before they leave for college. Athletes typically get in 7+ matches, the event is at a prestigious venue, the weather is great, there are many college coaches in attendance, the competition is fierce with various national champions and All-Americans competing, and undefeated wrestlers earn the title of the All-Dual Team. Many athletes use this a tune-up for Fargo as they will see many of the same wrestlers, and a topic of USAW is that members of the All-Dual team may possibly receive additional seeding criteria for Fargo. There will be an Indiana National Dual Camp, which is included in the cost, that features some of Indiana's best coaches and clinicians as well as the entire Cadet and Junior Dual Teams. Last year this included Leblanc (IU), Alex Tsirtsis (RWA), Steve Bradley (Lincoln), Nick Hull (IPWA), Thomas Pompeii (Indiana Tech), Brady Eppert (CIA), Andrew Nicola (Cumberland) and a few others. This year's camp will include the same high end coaching and competitive room. The Team Officially, the ISWA State Champion has the first right of refusal with 5 days to accept or decline their spot. After that, an ISWA committee (team leader, coaches, and director) uses it's discretion to ensure a full team team considering the ISWA state place winners and any petitions received. We are looking to take a full Junior Freestyle team and a full Junior Greco-Roman Team. The weight classes for this event are: 100, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285. We understand that some individuals have the ability, and may prefer, to go both styles, however we would like to take two teams because of the grind involved on this national level. If, for whatever reason, the athlete is adamant about going both styles, the committee would be open to it and we will remain focused on success. Costs $580 for one style or $615 for both, which includes registration, transportation, lodging, etc. It does not include food. More information will be posted as we get closer to this event, but consider this Indiana's heads up in the meantime. This will be our year. Best Regards, Coach Hull
  9. BOOOM!!!!! Ready to get back after it and looking forward to yet another great spring/summer on the East side!!! Warren Central, which offers one of the best training facilities in the country, is proud to open back up for the 2014 Regional Training Center season. Last year, we were able to provide an extremely competitive room, great instruction and top notch facilities. Warren's RTC will be EVERY WEDNESDAY from 6-730p in the Warren Central wrestling room, located on the 2nd floor of the field house beside the weight room. Please enter in Door 14 and be ready to roll. This week we are gearing up for the ISWA Folkstyle State so there will be a lot of live wrestling today for those looking to bang and/or manage their weights. We are excited about helping play a part in Indiana's development and hope everyone can come for a great night if training. Athletes must have their USAW card and sign in! Have a great day at school and we will see you in a minute!!!

  11. Starting 3/12 Wednesdays 6p - 8p Gonna be fun!
  12. ...you see an old wrestling buddy and instead of shaking hands you A) hit an arm drag, hit a snatch single, or C) go in greco style and hand fight.
  13. Glad we are talking about this now! Especially with the end of the h.s. season approaching and soooo much more wrestling to be done over the summer! A few things.... 1) This video is bigger than Fargo, it's about the overall importance of Freestyle and Greco in relation to Folkstyle. Although Fargo is the pinnacle tournament for h.s. athletes, it is by no means the only tournament athletes can compete in to expand their knowledge of the Olympic styles. Actually, it starts at the grassroots level in our practice rooms, the coach's office, at the dinner tables. It starts by going to this Freestyle Open or that Greco open locally. The more of those we get in, the better we are come time for ISWA state, the better we do as a state on the regional and national level. 2) In regards to Fargo, USAW has limits on the amount of kids that can participate in order to run an efficient tournament, therefor each state has their set limits as well. It's already one of the largest, if not the largest, amateur wrestling tournament in the world. But, yes, there are only a limited number of athletes allowed each weight, team, state, etc. 3) From my understanding, ANY kid who places top 3 at ISWA state, a USAW Regional, or the Cadet Nationals/Junior Worlds is eligible to go to Fargo. There are petitions available as well, and it can all be a matter of who submits their money first. 4.) The team trip scenario is invaluable. Over 95% of the kids that go say that the team comradery is one of the best parts about the trip. When Wrestler A from the region gets to hang out with Wrestler B from the south, who both get the chance to rub shoulders with State Champ X from central Indiana, it's good for all. These trips are how most, if not all, of Indiana's wrestlers create a lasting bond that would never have come to fruition if not for these trips. The younger athletes learn from the older athletes they may look up to, and because of the higher expectations of the studs, it rubs off on the younger athletes, who in turn raise their expectations over the years. No different from building a h.s. or middle school program when kids graduate and the next class or two are just as good. It's almost the same reason teams go to Disney, not just for the competition but for the team, or state in this case, bonding. If a kid goes on this trip solo, they will be missing out. 5) Regarding the routines, each coach is different. The ISWA tries to ensure Indiana has the best staff available each and every year. More times than not these are high quality coaches who have shown, whether through volunteering or building an elite program at home, that they are capable of coaching on this level. For example, Coach Fleeger from Purdue and Coach Tonte are both solid coaches, who have proven success. Both however may have different philosophies, techniques, warm-ups, approaches, etc. This doesn't make either one right or wrong, just different. Just as there is no constant in wrestling technically, the same goes for coaching and preparation. So when a kid has a different routine to prepare - it should be nothing major. Oftentimes it can be a good thing expanding a kids horizons. We are talking about some of Indiana's best coaches. It's not like the athlete is micromanaged either. They have plenty of time to do their own thing and prepare for a match. Also, if/when said athlete gets the opportunity to wrestle in college, or on the senior level, their preparation will undoubtedly be different than that of h.s. as well. Different is not a bad thing. 6) As a state, I'm certain if more of our kids competed in Freestyle and Greco, if it was a priority, then we would do better than what we are doing now. This way, with raised expectations, we aren't looking for just All-Americans but National Champions. With wrestling back in the Olympics, it's time for us to make it more of a priority. Look at Micic's success, or Sliga, Tsirtsis, Escobedo, etc. Even Pico got out of h.s. wrestling because he wants to be the best in the world, not just the U.S. Freestyle and Greco are key and I'm glad this video was produced and getting more attention on this board. As coaches, we can impress the Olympic styles importance until we are blue in the face, but when some of the country's best advocate for it - it helps the cause that much more. Here is to a great rest of the h.s. season and an even better summer advancing as a state in the Olympic styles!
  14. Here is to hoping more Indiana wrestlers continue training Freestyle and Greco, straight from the mouths of some of the greatest athletes our sport has know! Enjoy!
  15. http://www.flowrestling.org/video/639707-Dont-Be-That-Coach-Chapter-1#.UvD64j1dUVJ I'm certain we have all been guilty of this at one point or another. Lol. Just get better. Gotta love Flo.

Classes start November 5th in Indianapolis and culminate with the ISWA State Tournament in May 2014. We have several of Indiana's up-and-coming girls/women who have had national success and are looking to take it to the next level. Indiana Pride, fueled by the spirit of Indiana's success on a national and international level, started in 2012 to provide year-round training for the most dedicated wrestlers and parents in central-Indiana looking to excel. Whether you are looking for a primary location for your child's training, or are already a member of a club but looking for that extra edge, IPWA may be for you! Even with those yearly academies, there are even fewer that actually produce the results we do - as fast as we do! We successfully train wrestlers at all levels, whether entering college, competing for a national or state championship, or stepping on the mat for the first time. With our immediate and growing success, we feel there simply is no other organization in Indiana that can match what we provide. Our MMA training is both safe and second to none, with current members in the UFC, former UFC champions in attendance regularly, and successful UFC coaches running the program daily. We are also extremely happy to welcome 1972 Olympic Boxing Gold Medalist, Sugar Ray Seales, to the boxing coaching staff full-time! Should you choose to take advantage of this additional opportunity, your child's boxing training could not be in better hands than an Olympic Champion who's charisma, energy and past success is unrivaled in Indiana for your child's development. We offer all of these services and the chance to become a member of Indiana's hottest wrestling organization for only $50 per month! That's right - fifty dollars per month! 22. Shane Perkey, Head Assistant Coach at IPWA, will be helping spearhead our K-8 Academy after having a great prep and collegiate career, both as wrestler and coach. Before spending several years as an assistant coach at Lindsey Wilson College and University of Indianapolis, Coach Perkey competed for University of Indianapolis finishing with a 149-23 record as the schools first and only 4x All-American. He ended his collegiate career as a national runner-up and 3x 4th place finisher. Hailing from Jimtown High School, Coach Perkey also tallied an impressive 163-13 record placing 3rd and 5th, losing to eventual Indiana phenom Angel Escobedo. He brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Indiana Pride Academy staff and has been an exceptional addition in relation to our members and parents. His tough and aggressive style, coupled with his even demeanor, goes a long way towards helping your athlete maximize their potential. Again, sign up today as spots are beginning to fill up for our November 5th opening! For more information visit www.indianaprideacademy.com
  23. 36 spots left as of 9/30. I've gotten a lot of great feedback and many asking for more information. 25. Heard about this over the summer from a few USAW higher ups. From my understanding it was a give-and-take scenario, a bit of politics as usual. Word on the street is we have the best odds to remain, but nothing is guaranteed until next months vote. Changing the rules to make it more fan friendly and balancing men's and women's weight classes was show of good faith, and the winner has more than likely already been chosen. While I don't necessarily agree with some of the changes, if wrestling stays in the Olympics in 2020 as a result, I roll with it. If things work out, this whole scenario could have been the best thing to revitalize this generations awareness of our sport, and wrestling can further be used as a tool to cross divisional lines across the world! I can also keep my Olympic posters up and stop my secret plan Operation: Boycott Everything (stage 3). #SaveOlympicWrestling
