Looks like they only seed out top 4 and draw the rest. Could be wrong about that though.

They are spectacular. Last summer at the camp at Loras College in Iowa we had Jordan Burroughs, Tom Brands, and Jake Varner, as well as an assistant from illinois whose name is escaping me. There are tons of schools from all over the country. The team tournament is competitive. The team Olympics can really bring your guys together. There are generally some d3 coaches helping out and doing some scouting as well. I honestly don't know enough adjectives to describe how great our experience was the last 3 summers at ISI
Also they show solid techniques. Not just flashy "camp moves"

Old.   Stodgy.   Out of touch.   Clueless.   Oblivious.  Don’t get it.   Outdated.

This is how my grandchildren and children describe me.

Honestly, I dislike most people under 35.   I do not get social media.   The whole of idea of ‘being famous’ on Twitter or Facebook is a farce.   The narcissism of so many young people is completely foreign.   And social media is just a stupidity amplifier for the selfish foolishness of millennials.

There is one group of people under 35 I still can relate to and that’s wrestlers.   I can talk to a kid who wrestles for hours.   There isn’t much selfishness in these kids.   These are really damn good kids.

That got me thinking.   Wrestling is really the most humbling thing a person can do.   At least in my opinion.   Even our greatest wrestlers ever, guys like Ellis and Tsirtis and Palmer, have been beat and pinned at some point.   If you’ve ever wrestled, you been humbled.   Probably multiple times.

So many kids today really have no idea what failure is.   I watched the video of that girl at Yale screaming and I could not believe it.   Halloween costumes are now offensive and cause a person to emotional convulse?  Really?  Too many soft people.   Too many people who have never failed.   Too many people who have never been challenged.

I see so many wrestlers perform so admirably in adulthood.   And I honestly think it is because so many of these kids failed.   They failed plenty of times in wrestling matches.   And they were taught to get back up and do it all over again.   Don’t quit.   Don’t stop fighting.

Wrestling provides these kids armor for life.   If they lose a job or something does not go their way, they don’t immediately crumble.   They move on.   And they certainly don’t fall to pieces over made up transgression like Halloween costumes or micro aggressions.

These kids who wrestle are probably the one thing that give me some glimmer of hope for the future.

    End of old man's rant.

I like being the underdog and over achieving, it creates a challenge which I am always up for. I remember an undefeated state champ from Turkey Run, 2 state champs from Union County and 1 from Winchester, last 3 all in the same year. So I know it can be done. Once again, we have confidence in several of our guys and their ability to compete against the best. I would never tell them that they aren't on a level playing field.

That was an outstanding match. And like you said, it was very nice to see two wrestlers that, when it was all said and done, didn't throw fits or punch the mat. They just hugged each other and went on.

grappleapple reacted to Rapid Rehydration in Rehydrating and Cutting Weight
We have been sponsoring IndianaMat for a couple of years now and we feel we should give you some of the science behind the product. As some of you know, Rapid Rehydration was created by two former wrestlers and Team USA judo players as a solution to their problems recovering after cutting weight. Please check out www.rapidrehydration.com for more information and use the coupon code 'hydration' for 10% off all of our products.  Team discounts are available.

According to the Australian Institute of Sports [7], one should consume 1.5 times their estimated fluid deficit. This may be challenging when competing immediately after weighing in, since some people cut more than 5 pounds.

“When the rehydration period prior to an exercise bout is less than 60-120 min (e.g. weigh-in prior to a race or competition bout, recovery between repeated training or competition session), gastrointestinal discomfort may prevent the athlete from achieving this targeted fluid intake. In such a situation, that athlete should consume the greatest volume that can be comfortably tolerated.” [7]

Not only how much, but what type of fluid you put into your body is important. Scientists and doctors agree that “Fluid intake should be accompanied by electrolyte replacement, particularly sodium, to optimize the retention of fluid and re-equilibration of body fluid”. [7] It has also been extensively studied that a "properly formulated carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage" increases the rate of absorption of liquids into the body. [8 – Vanderbilt article]. Rapid Rehydration is specifically designed with this information in mind to assure maximum rehydration and recovery.

grappleapple reacted to Coach Peck in Pendleton Heights Wrestling
I wanted to take a moment and thank the Pendleton Heights Wrestling Team and it's Coaches for the kindness, and great honor, they showed me this past Saturday at our Wrestling Invitational.  As many of you know, my wife Bonnie passed away in late August after a battle with cancer.  Anyone who knew Bonnie realized what a wonderful person she was.  She had a contagious smile, loved to make new friends , and went out of her way to help people when at all possible.  There were a number of years when she went to Pendleton to help the Arabian Wrestling Club with pairing their springtime tournament.  She got to where she looked forward to going because she had made friends with a number of the people and she enjoyed seeing them.  Anyway, at our meet Saturday the members of the Pendleton Heights team as well as Coach Cloud and the other members of his staff approached me and presented me with one of their Team T-Shirts.  On the sleeve of the shirt was a rembrance to Bonnie.  Needless to say this big guy was moved.  They all shook my hand and had something to say.  They all seemed happy to be doing it.  I deeply appreciated it, and I will never forget it.  Thinking about the kindness shown is moving me to tears as I type this.  I just want to say, "Thanks Arabian Wrestlers and Coaches for being so kind and for having such class.  I know Bonnie would appreciate it as well."

On a side note, I would think most coaches would go crazy on a kid for doing something like that! Did his own coach know what he did?

Congratulations to Lowell's Drew Hughes on his verbal commitment to the Spartans of Michigan State. Drew has worked very hard since the age of 5 to be one of the best in the country, he's certainly done that. Now he joins New Head Coach Roger Chandler next year to start a new chapter in Michigan State Wrestling.

Great job, Drew! You a have a wonderful future ahead of you.
