May want to be more specific with HHC.  The Hoosier Heritage Conference (HHC)was not cancelled and will have an additional allowance tomorrow.

The Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC) was postponed due to weather and will be rescheduled for next weekend.

Sorry about that. Got short-sighted. Yes, the Hoosier Heritage Conference is on.

There's a big difference in cutting a couple pounds as you suggested than to not follow the guidelines and cut down 3 weight classes or 20lbs or nearly 1/6 of total body weight. But hey, if it's on the papers, then it's ok and no one knows.

Not really - rules are rules. If the rule is you can only cut roughly two pounds (at the 113 pound for instance) - and a person cuts three. That's no better than the person cutting 10. It's still a rules violation, right? Personally, I don't have an issue with kids cutting as much as they want as long as they are healthy. That's part of the beauty of the sport - the ones that sacrifice the most are the ones that succeed. Wrestling isn't easy. In fact, it's by far the most difficult high school sport. If kids devote so much to it that they will cut 10 pounds in a week and be able to keep that up an entire season - more power to them. Goals aren't easy to achieve - unless you set the bar low.

Ehh, what's adhering to a weight mgmt plan?  I've personally seen wrestlers lose way more than what is allowed within a couple days and not too long ago, this same issue came straight from  one of Indianas finest.

"I was cutting too much weight and it showed when things started to count. I was like 133 pounds during the week and I was cutting to 113."

But, I get where you're coming from on this, they need "paper trails"

What is your suggestion? Should kids weigh daily - and maybe multiple times a day? Drink a Gatorade...weigh in? Eat a hamburger, weigh in? If they weighed in right after dinner and that put them three pounds over, and the rule is you can only be two - should they not be able to compete?

For the record.....in 2009 the TEC had 3 State Champions. Cody Phillips and Michael Duckworth of Union County, and Adam Chalfant of Winchester. Has a conference this

    small ever had that before

That was a great year for the TEC, for sure. Fun wrestlers to watch.

Were am I asking for a team to get more recognition? I said Union City may not be a Top 5 team in their own conference. So clearly I don't believe I am asking for them to be recognized.

Fair enough. To me, and I think others, it came across differently. I hope they do well in the TEC meet.

I don't believe the post states "one of the better conferences in the state" ...it says "may be" the most underrated.

So to clarify "may be"  the most underrated as a 1A conference ... Union City has a win over #9 Shenandoah and may not be better than 5th or 6th in their own conference. So my thinking is if a middle of the pack conference team can beat a "Top 10" 1A team it "may be" underrated.

    #theTEC

That win over Shenandoah was in early November when Silas Allred wasn't wrestling. I'm betting several others were out as well, including Jake Webster. Also, Shenandoah had AJ Black when they were ranked No. 9. Union City is not beating that Shenandoah team.

  7. I did a little research to see just how underrated Union City and the TEC is. Here's what I have (mind you, some results may be missing).

    Centerville 13-2

    Knightstown 18-3

Union City 10-7 (was beaten 63-6 by Mt. Vernon and lost to Harrison's JV team) Also, lost to Cambridge City who is 2-7.

Union County (1-14), Tri (5-12), Hagerstown (4-6), Winchester (4-8), Northeastern (3-4), Cambridge City (2-7) and Union County (1-14) all have losing records.

Now, I do think there are good wrestlers in the conference. The Phillips kid from Centerville, Tucker Coffman and some of the Knightstown kids like Jon Simmons, Thomas Sollars and their heavyweight are pretty legit. I just don't see how someone argues for a team to get more recognition when that team is 10-7 in a conference where the majority of teams are struggling this season.

The TEC may be the most under rated conference, Union City has beaten some top teams and may not finish in the Top 5.

How do you get underrated when there aren't conference ratings? And, what are you basing this off of? Is this single class, state wide? Is it Class A?

I read in the heraldbulletin that Gary Black resigned from Shennandoah with John Barbosa taking over. Also said that AJ Black was no longer with the team. Hopefully this isn't the case.

This is true. AJ is at New Castle now, where he lives right next to the school

    Dang coffmans@82?

I wonder if it is a situation like my son's first meet. He didn't quite get down to 170 (weighed 171), and then bumped up to 195 to wrestle. I'm betting Tucker will be 70 or less at some point this season - but I'm don't know for sure.

  11. According to the numbers - using a highly technological algorithm, in the last five years the New Castle semistate should have had 70 champs. But, due to complex issues such as interest rate, voting record, mom's apple pie and Brayton Lee - the number is only at 25.
