  1. I don't know the rules. I do see they made Hines the 2 seed now and Purtha the 3.
  2. Hmmm. Yeah - this is a change. I'm not sure I understand the seeding now though. It shows Hines as the 3 seed now and Purtha as the 2, and Hines beat Purtha 10-2 a few weeks ago.
  3. I'm pretty confident in all of my picks - but I can't make up my mind on 152 and 220.
  4. I think Tsirtsis is an amazing wrestler, but I do find his matches rather boring. I don't need to see a Brendan Campbell / Kyle Ayersman each time - with points lighting up the scoreboard faster than Avon posters can type hashtags - but, I do like to see matches that have action throughout and at least some attempts at offense.
  5. One of the best matches I've watched was heavyweight (last year third place match) - but, in general, the heavyweight matches are akin to sloths taking Nyquil and seeing who can stand up the longest. Again, not all - but many of the heavyweight matches are just shoving displays.
  6. Yeah - I think that one's going to be good to watch. I'm also eager to see the Ragle/Phillips rematch.
  7. Oh, I'm with you that I think depth is what determines a good sectional. But when I showed the records in another sectional that I thought had pretty good depth - I was informed that a good sectional was how many semistate qualifiers there were. So, I went one step further - the goal in wrestling is to win a championship - so, the best sectional would be the one that produces the best champions. Period, by the logic of some on here. As for Westfork's comment - I agree. Overall depth - as far as kids that are going to have to work for a title not just get a cake walk through, makes for a b
  8. Back to the original topic - but I would have to put Delta's sectional as the top one last year. They had three champs and two runners up.
  9. The sectional with more semistate qualifiers - but that doesn't mean the other one is terrible by any means.
  10. So your lone criteria on sectionals is that it must produce state qualifiers?
  11. Not sure why you singled out this sectional for your guess. Last year there were at least 5 state qualifiers from the sectional, including a runner-up finish. Here's some of the records at Tri. 106: 38-3, 31-4, 26-6 113: 42-2, 33-2, 33-5, 26-6, 26-9 120: 28-11, 28-2, 21-18, 12-8 126: 39-3, 43-2, 28-5, 132: 38-1, 42-3, 26-9, 25-14 138: 18-4, 42-3, 26-9, 25-14 145: 32-0, 25-10, 27-11, 15-11 152 (weakest of the group with only four wrestlers): 30-7, 32-9 160: 29-4, 31-9, 23-7, 24-12 170: 34-8, 31-2, 26-9 182: 12-0, 36-5, 32-11, 16-10
  12. I think 126 will be interesting. Ragle lost to Phillips recently - but Ragle is very good at learning from mistakes and bouncing back. Should be interesting as both are very good wrestlers. I think 120 should be a good class - and I'm also excited about the possible matchup of Puglsey vs. little Ragle. I think 145 and 182 are locks for Shenandoah's kids. I think 160 will be real interesting. The team race should be fun too, between New Castle, Centerville and Shenandoah. Knightstown has a very good dual team - but I don't think they are quite as strong in a tournament setting.
  13. How do you get motivated to not be a bad sectional? You can work to be a good wrestler, but that won't change who your competition is. And, these things are ever-changing. A bad team today might be a great team in a few years. Look at Shenandoah last year - they proved that.
  14. What happened with the Rushville kid at 160? Why didn't he wrestle?
  15. RegionRat gets my nod. Never has a poster been so good at promoting wrestlers, and so bad at spelling.
  16. A few things I've noticed on the new uniforms - I saw a couple of kids in a scramble and one kid's hand got caught in the other kid's fight shorts. The ref was quick and he literally jerked the arm out of the shorts and wrestling continued without any other issue. This was a middle school meet. In high school the only negative I saw was a kid's shirt came way up while he was wrestling. I know that had to be uncomfortable, but it didn't affect the wrestling. Personally I think it's somewhat of a money grab. Now instead of using singlets for 5 years, they get new uniforms every year. B
  17. Sorry about that. Got short-sighted. Yes, the Hoosier Heritage Conference is on.
  18. The HHC wasn't cancelled, but because schools were cancelled on Friday their will be an additional 1 pound allowance tomorrow.
  19. Not really - rules are rules. If the rule is you can only cut roughly two pounds (at the 113 pound for instance) - and a person cuts three. That's no better than the person cutting 10. It's still a rules violation, right? Personally, I don't have an issue with kids cutting as much as they want as long as they are healthy. That's part of the beauty of the sport - the ones that sacrifice the most are the ones that succeed. Wrestling isn't easy. In fact, it's by far the most difficult high school sport. If kids devote so much to it that they will cut 10 pounds in a week and be able to keep that u
  20. FYI - this has been pushed back to 11:30 start time tomorrow.
  21. What is your suggestion? Should kids weigh daily - and maybe multiple times a day? Drink a Gatorade...weigh in? Eat a hamburger, weigh in? If they weighed in right after dinner and that put them three pounds over, and the rule is you can only be two - should they not be able to compete?
  22. Yes, he would - because they ducked Joe's guy. Had he not forfeited and then wrestled later in the day, who knows.
  23. Hopefully it pans out and we'll get to see No. 1 vs. No. 2, and a rematch of last year's state championship match between Curtis and Black. Should be worth the price of admission.
  24. I was going to go with 152 - but I didn't want to see any #TheCounty comments. Dangit - I hashtagged.
