  1. No, they don't face everyone in a dual before conference.
  2. Sorry for my ignorance. I'm assuming the 1 seed is at top vs. 8 seed. The 2 seed is at the bottom vs. the 7. Where are the other seeds located? Would 4 be second tier on top with five below, then 3 and 6?
  3. I think New Castle's Trevor Ragle will have a shot at 126. Sam Buck was leading Sage Coy last year until he was pinned at the end of the third period...so Sam could contend at 145. 195 might be interesting too, New Castle's Nate Woollard beat Evans in overtime during a dual this season. Team wise - New Pal and Yorktown are clearly the frontrunners with Delta right behind.
  4. http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2016/01/07/doyel-wrestler-says-he-doesnt-deserve-story-you-decide/78412520/ A pretty good read.
  5. The Henry County tournament was last night, and without a doubt it was one of the best in decades (as far as competitiveness). Shenandoah started out up 20 points, but Knightstown battled back. Came down to the heavyweight match, Shenandoah winning by three, but Knightstown got the pin. Knightstown won the county title. Tri was beating Shenandoah in the final round until Shenandoah's AJ Black earned a quick pin at 106 for the win. Good to see three of the four "Henry County" schools field full rosters. That's a rarity. New Castle has never competed in this tournament, to my knowledge. And I have no idea why this text is so small. I blame the IHSAA and Obama.
  6. Thanks for all the updates. It stinks being stuck in an office while all this wrestling is going on.
  7. If anyone is at this, please post updates. Thanks
  8. Caleb Hoots is ranked 6th overall at 182, but not in the top 6 at semi state? Is that just an omission?
  9. That was an outstanding match. And like you said, it was very nice to see two wrestlers that, when it was all said and done, didn't throw fits or punch the mat. They just hugged each other and went on.
  10. I know last year in conference Buck and Coy had a great match going. Buck was ahead late and Coy ended up pulling off a pin in the third. Was hoping to see a rematch.
  11. A little bit of an upset, I guess. New Castle beats Delta 54-24. I don't think Sage Coy wrestled. New Castle's unranked Nate Woollard defeated No. 7 ranked Scottie Evans by points, but I'm not sure the score. I guess it was a pretty back-and-forth match.
  12. There is a column in the Indy star about IHSAA transfer rules hosing students. Doesn't mention this scenario though.
  13. Caleb Hoots is 182, New Castle (it's got to be a nightmare keeping track of all these weights and changes early on)
  14. Yeah - his coaches saw it. I don't know what they said to him - but they did have a guy whispering in his ear so I'm sure he was informed not to do that again. Didn't really pay attention to the rest of his day, other than to see from a distance the second match where he was pinned. And his final match, against Roncalli, I think he slammed a guy and hurt him. I know nothing about whether it was illegal, or dirty or just something accidental. Nobody seemed too upset so I am assuming it wasn't dirty.
  15. Not a big deal - but the only thing at New Castle I saw on Saturday that was a little annoying was when a 126-pound Mt. Vernon wrestler put a kid in a banana splits. Both wrestlers were too high for any sort of pin or really even back points, but the Mt. Vernon guy held it there, then stuck his tongue out, started laughing and with his hand threw up the old hang 10 sign (not sure what it means these days). The crowd got a little riled, and told him to show some class. He was up about 10 points, and then with only a few seconds left he did the banana splits again. The next round, the same kid got pinned in about 20 seconds and must have said something to the ref because a team point was taken away. Hopefully the coaches coral the cockyness a little bit. I'm all for having fun, and passion on the mat - but not at the expense of embarrassing another competitor.
  16. I really don't know for certain. My guess is 106.
  17. New Castle wrestling coach Rex Peckinpaugh's wife Bonnie passed away last night after a battle with cancer. She was a fixture in the New Castle program and will be greatly missed. Please pray for Rex and the family during this difficult time.
  18. New Castle lost a member of its wrestling family today when Levi Rose was killed in a car crash. He was 22 and leaves behind a 2-year old and an infant. Please pray for his family during this terrible time.
  19. I understand the rules, and I followed them. But I do wish the requirements were different. My son wrestled in two freestyle tournaments and one Greco. We have mutliple kids playing sports. One plays h.s. tennis, one plays h.s. baseball and Babe Ruth baseball (at different times), another wrestles four nights a week and plays Babe Ruth baseball and a daughter plays on two softball teams. It is very, very difficult to get to several tournaments - especially spending two days or more (depending on weigh-in requirements). My son really wanted to wrestle Greco this weekend, we just didn't meet the requirements for that. It stinks for him, because he would have wrestled two tournaments, we just couldn't get him there. But I didn't write to anyone or try to bend the rules - I just signed him up for freestyle only. I think, if we are looking at the good of the sport, these should be open tournaments. But I do see how it hurts the local tournaments. That's my two cents worth.
  20. No brainer. The school with the degree you want. Unless that school has a large percentage of Chicago Cubs fans. That's a game changer. Nobody wants to be around that type of person.
  21. Brenden Campbell - undefeated and ranked no. 1 as a freshman before an emergency appendectomy ended his season as a freshman. Third as a sophomore and then lost two very close matches under the lights as a junior and a senior.
  22. Do you ever need to renew copper cards?
  23. An article on Avon senior Quinn Harris http://m.flyergroup.com/sports/local_sports/oriole-standing-strong-after-tragic-loss/article_370586c7-7d80-5195-b6ad-ed87b7bc388e.html?mode=jqm
