By the way this is the least number of All-Americans since 1986. Last year for instance we had 17 All-Americans, compared to 7 this year.
Here is a list of our past AA's

Collet, Atwood and Stein were all first year Juniors this year. I would expect a better performance from all of them, maybe not placing but winning four or five matches like Vlahos did.
-
I think this is a great showing from the Indiana wrestlers.
I disagree, we had four previous AA's that had very poor showings last week.
Brandon Nelson- 1-2
Drake Stein- 0-2
Mark Collett- 0-2
Brayden Atwood- 1-2

Great article, especially because TheMat.com gave a shoutout to IndianaMat.com.

wrestlingmom812,
You must realize when you go to the schoolboy duals you are wrestling each state's best wrestlers. If you are 2nd or 3rd in Indiana, that honestly doesn't mean you'd be 2nd or 3rd in other states. The schoolboy duals are very tough and have a lot of very good wrestlers in attendance. There are numerous very tough Indiana wrestlers that have taken multiple losses at this meet. For instance in 2006 Brandon Wright went 4-2 and the next year he was an Indiana state runner-up.

As most of you know, I am a stats person and I have always wondered if it was an advantage for a wrestler to be born in certain months. There was actually a study done with major league baseball players in that most US born players were born in August and September because August is(maybe was) the cut-off date for little leaguers(article http://www.slate.com/id/2188866/ ). So I decided to do a little study on the finalists from Fargo the past four years and here is the data.
Month Jr Cadet
January 20 33
February 16 21
March 20 38
April 13 23
May 14 22
June 18 34
July 30 20
August 27 24
September 14 14
October 20 18
November 21 6
December 25 17
By three month breakdown
Month Jr Cadet
Jan-Mar 56(23.5%) 92(34.0%)
April-June 45(18.9%) 79(29.3%)
July-Sept 71(29.8%) 58(21.5%)
Oct-Dec 66(27.7%) 41(15.2%)
*Should be 25% if perfect
By six month breakdown
Month Jr Cadet
Jan-June 101(42.4%) 171(63.3%)
July-Dec 127(57.6%) 99(36.7%)
*Should be 50% if perfect
Average Age of Finalists
Cadets Avg Age
2009 15.89
2008 15.93
2007 15.80
2006 15.94
Total 15.89
*Note the age range is 16.5 years to 14.5 years
Juniors Avg Age
2009 17.83
2008 17.61
2007 17.18
2006 17.25
Total 17.47
*Note the age range is 16.5 years to 19.9 years
It looks more even for Juniors, but it is very much different when you compare the Cadet age division.

They got it wrong, that is why he is laughing...or so I believe.
-
Tom, I told him what you said and he replied back, "I know." I think he liked to lose the first period of his matches to make things interesting.
-
Congrats on the big win!
-
He said Sanders may be starting next year for them. I would think Cashe and Eppert both will redshirt, but you never know.
-
Dylan Ness from Minnesota has won three national titles(Cadet Greco, Cadet Freestyle, and FILA-Cadet Freestyle) amongst other top national placings, but has yet to win a state title in Minnesota. But class wrestling makes things easier....
-
Cashe and Dardanes(sp) will be up and so will Mango vs. Eppert.
-
As I told Tom Erickson today, if all their meets were greco, I would be there every time. Sanders is EXCITING to watch.
-
cash is in the finals

Cashe has one more match tonight and everyone else is done.
Eppert will be going for 3rd tomorrow morning.
-

I agree, I certain hope and think this year is an anomaly, but you never know with the increasing presence of the Disney Duals and other tournaments during the summer that are popping up everywhere. Of the 14 AA's from last year that were eligible to return, only 8 did so. I know the coaches were really struggling to fill the line-up this year and it certainly showed in the performance.
Hopefully next year we will get around 15 AA's again.
