Triple B-- I don't know you so I can't impugn your character like you did mine. I used a real word, with a real and definite meaning. I do not engage in our current looking-to-be-offended-cancel-culture. Our LIfe Skills students at PH are part of our program as managers. I would never use a word designed to demean a person with a disability. The word is a VERB. The horrible term you refer to is a slang term that I never use and have admonished my wrestlers and football players for using. If you wish to speak to me directly as opposed to attacking me in a public forum, my phone is 765-610-8150. Dave Cloud

Here is mine... Owen Sego. Nothing would make me more happy than to see this kid make a deep run or win it all. At 170, he is a complete wild card. He has the experience and a proud angel looking down on him. That could be all that he needs!!!

No, it’s against the rules for Mater Dei fans to disclose their lineup this early in the season.

    Harvest Classic

One year there isn't 2 or 3 ranked kids at each weight and it's taken a crap? This tourney is still tough, pretty much every year I have been told by a coach that they actually don't like coming because their kids end of coming home like they were in a street fight (not sure if this is a good thing 😂). A lot of tough storied teams (Hobart, Penn, Portage) here, the only real change is Perry not being there this year

    Question about rankings??

Being ranked in general is a nice recognition of your hard work and ability. in recent years some of these Freshman have put together a very impressive national resume over the last couple years against cadet age group competition. So I can see some ranking coordinator may consider plugging a few in, especially at the lower weights. Not every talented wrestlers will have their name out there enough to get that recognition later in the the year, let along at this point of the season. Our ranking guys do a great job and are pretty accurate with their picks by the last rankings, but even they will point out how a couple unranked guys (mostly due to lack of info on them) who qualified for state slipped by them. However, getting too caught up in where you are rank isn't necessary, especially in the first month of competition. That ranking maybe a curse to some if they feel if they value it too much. Heck I've seen kids get so nervous about trying to keep a ranking they finally earned that they drop matches they probably shouldn't have by being too conservative or failing on a mid-match desperation move after being down a couple points early. I've also seen ranked wrestlers let their foot off the gas and drop a match because they began to assume that ranking meant they have already proven they will make it to state. The rankings will all "come out in the wash" as the season progresses and more results start come in. If anything use your lower or non-ranking as motivation to keep improving your craft so you can prove your ability doesn't match your ranking when that time comes. When a wrestlers season ends, and they looked back at how they did, believe me they they won't be reflecting on where they were ranked during the course of that year.

So you presented this in a national forum and used the word "retards"? As a life long special educator and a guy that works daily with students with moderate cognitive disabilities, I wished my elementary wrestlers listened and followed directions like "retards". Stay classy

    IU vs Purdue

As a coach of someone who just committed to IU and has another being recruited there, I can say for sure the cache of being a 4-time state champ from Indiana and his relative youth is what is pulling kids towards IU. They see in him something they can aspire to be. I love Coach Ersland, but I think it's hard for some of our HS athletes to see themselves in him. They don't have the ability to think that far ahead. The stark difference in "fun" status between the two universities is another big thing that they've been siting. For better or worse, Purdue has a great academic reputation, but not so much for off-campus activity. Indiana has both going for it. As a Purdue grad myself, this pains me, but I think those are the reasons you're seeing so many Indiana wrestlers committing to IU. Ersland will be fine at Purdue, because he develops talent and will continue to nail down a few out of state guys each year. But Angel is placing on premium on keeping Indiana kids in Bloomington. We'll see if it pays off for them, but at the very least, he's going to make fans out of nearly every one in state because we all know the guys up and down the line-up.

    IU vs Purdue

It seems weird to me how in-state recruits keep going to IU because Angel is building something and want to stay home, while Ersland offers the same stay in-state ability while already showing he has a program built. There's still a ways to go, but Ersland and Purdue looks much more like a sure thing.

When used as a verb, the word "retard" is appropriate and not offensive. See this article, which references major newspapers and publications which have used the word properly. https://grammarist.com/usage/retard/. I have not read the document which used the word here, so I won't comment on this particular usage; I'm just saying there is a perfectly appropriate and non-offensive way to use the word "retard". To suggest that the word must be banned in all forms is political correctness gone amok.

I think his “unknown” was meant to be tongue in cheek. I think he was mostly just pointing out that he was unranked even though he was coming back as the returning state runner-up.

I know Allred is penciled in by everyone at 195 this year, but if Summerset from South Adams, Friedt from Bellmont, or Winner from Jay County can stay or get to around 182 (especially Winner), those could be a Darkhorse for sure.
