  1. Some French family moved to Culver...not sure if I am spelling the name right, but I think it's something like Forfet? Forfit? Something like that. Anyway, must be a big family because they are filling like seven of our weight classes this season.

  2. Since wrestling season is right around the corner I thought I would share this to anyone who isn't already locked into something and finds this useful. For the last few years, I have been using Google Sheets to keep up with my stats for my team. It has worked out well and every year I copy the template and change the name and dates. I thought I would share it with you and if you are a spreadsheet junky possibly we can collaborate to make it better. I have thought about extending the spreadsheet and doing per-period stats so I can start running reports on how the team does each period but I haven't made the time for it yet. It does some automatic calculations for tech falls, forfeits, and pins. I thought I would share it if anyone like to use it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QNwZH1Zl0HzdDsFqxIGcGU-fPzQa3Z5ocKZtcVk5phs/edit?usp=sharing I know there are some programs out there and I have tried them and I didn't like their programming at the time but a good old fashion spreadsheet still works well.

    Ashton Mutuwa

I didn’t see him mentioned, but I wanted to give a shout out to former state qualifier for Hanover Central, Ashton Mutuwa. He wrestled at the Summer Olympics in Paris for Team Nigeria at 125 kilograms. An incredible feat and opportunity.

  6. Congrats to Sarah Hildebrandt on making it to the finals tomorrow! She has now set herself in stone no matter the result as one of the greatest to come out of the state of Indiana. If she can complete her dream of a Gold Medal tomorrow she will be on the Mt Rushmore of USA Women’s Wrestling. Good luck to Kayla Miracle later this week as she goes for Gold as well.

  8. Charlie LaRocca lost in the ticket round in both his freshman and sophmore years. Freshmen year lost to Liam Krueger of Columbus East. Sophomore year lost to Isaiah Schaefer of Mater Dei. Then went on to win back to back state titles.

  11. I could be speaking out of pocket, but wouldn't Tylin Thrine qualify as a surprise champion? For anyone besides @FCFIGHTER170, he called it very early. Especially given the fact he beat Logan Frazier, which most people thought was a lock, on the way to his state title as a freshman.

  12. Truly incredible the jumps he made. Won one match as a freshman, still below .500 as a sophomore and regional exit, then semi state champ and 6th as a junior, and then state runner-up as a senior. Just kept grinding and it definitely paid off.

  13. Freshman 2016- 106 Asa Garcia Season High Ranking was around #8 Final State Rankings #10 Sectional Runner Up Regional Runner Up Semi State Runner Up, Blood Round match vs. #1 Cayden Rooks won in UTB to make it to State . State Friday Night beat #7 Lukas Waldenzac (SV 7-5) Saturday Morning beat #8 Brayden Curtis (OT 1-0) Semi Finals beat #4 returning State placer Kory Cavenaugh (5-2) Finals Match pins #2 Returning State Placer Keyuan Murphy, who he lost to twice in Dual & Team State that year. Nobody picked Asa that year . It’s was his first time running the gauntlet in his weight class . Did it again in absolute brutal 126 weight class in 2018 .

  14. Ryan Sweet from Southwood back in 93 at 152. I'm pretty sure he never made it out of Regionals and was never a sectional champ, but found his groove his senior year. Won Conference, Sectional, Regional, Semi-State, and then lost to Matt Armentano from EVMD in the state finals. Wasn't a state champ, but it was one heck of a run to watch.

  15. Tommy Cash winning 138 in 2015 was a small surprise. I recall many thinking Brandon James would steamroll everyone on the way to a title, but took an L to Joe Lee.

    Sarah Hildebrandt

Today was our first student day of school. Some students at the end of school passing period may have been a little concerned about my antics while watching Sarah’s Gold Medal match on my phone. And I have no shame about it. Great win after years of hard work and dedication. Hopefully this is an inspirations to even more young girls from Indiana.

  20. Goldman of Bloomington North - 99% certain most people thought (rightfully) Stevenson of Indian Creek was going to walk through state. McClurg of Perry Meridian. Both were surprises in the fact first time qualifying for state as seniors and winning it all. (I think) McClurg battled a lot of injuries, which prohibited from qualifying earlier in his career. Goldman peaked at the right time.

The quality and depth is on par with pretty much every year. Many of the wrestlers participating don't even need to qualify for early entry, but still come here to prepare for the Super 32 and other fall events.

    New school who dis?

Anyone remember The Firm w/ Nas, AZ and Foxy Brown? This all reminds me of their song "Phone Tap" "What's the deal-y? I just touched grounds down in Indy Brought some transfers with me, IHSAA be floatin' around silly" "IHSAA got yo' phone tapped, what you gon' do? 'Cause sooner or later, they'll have your whole crew All they need now is the right word or two To make it all stick like glue, then you through IHSAA got yo' phone tapped, what you gon' do? 'Cause sooner or later, we'll have your whole crew All They need now is the right word or two" Anyway, been grinding to get you the dirt: My sources tell me Rojas and Boe to Lake Highland Prep Malones and Hornsby to CG. Hornsby cleared to wrestle and I'm 95% sure Malones are cleared. Bender is THS, he just lives in Illinois. Crown Point wins the Caesar Salas sweepstakes. Traevon Ducking and Case Bell to Brownsburg, but not sure that's a surprise.

  29. Jeremiah Harvey (Culver Academies) at HWT in 2011 i thought Damon Howe of Plymouth was gonna get the Win that year I think Harvey went into OT in almost every match at State that year. Connor Graber (Northridge) at 182 in 2018, everyone thought that Nathan Walton (Brownsburg) was a guarantee for the title coming off of 2 3rd place finishes

  32. My son Paul is Stevans training partner and has been with Stevan in Europe for the last 3 weeks. Stevans knee injury is legate. He would have made weight with his weight cutting regiment. For you to make allegations against him is absurd. You have the right to your own opinion, even if it is wrong. He is crushed that he could not compete and fulfill his lifelong dream of become an Olympic champion...

  43. I wasn't coach at the time, but from what I have been told Garrett Pepple was JV as a freshman. He and Connor Knapp were same weight. Knapp was a qualifier as a Freshman. I believe Garrett was a light 106. Anyhow he went from JV to state runner-up at 106 as a Sophmore. Was a runner-up and champ at 113 his junior and senior year.

  44. Marshall Fishback in 2022. Ranked tenth and was only a semi-state qualifier the previous year. He beat a peak Jacob Johnson UTB 3-2 in the semis that year. Holden Parsons at Heavyweight in 2020 when Dorian Keys dominated most of the season before being upset by Irick in the semis. Rhett Hiestand and Katrell Moss in 2014 at 160 and 195 who beat Vinny Corsaro and Brian Wagner in the finals that year. Matt Hurford in 2013 at 182, a weight I thought would either go to Jake Masengale or Dakota Thacker.

  47. Jeremiah Harvey = Culver Community - he went to OT or pinned his opponent in the first period every match except 3 - Hall in the SS semis - avenging four losses that season; Howe in the regional semis - pinned in the second period; Hall in the semis at sectional - one of the four losses to Hall that season. What a wild ride that post season was.

  49. Kayla's match sucked with giving up the challenge. It was very unlikely to be overcalled, and that point ended up being the difference. Just an unfortunate match, because this may be the best version of Kayla that I've seen. Mason didn't look right, maybe had some Olympic jitters. He shot himself out of the match, taking bad shot attempts that drained him. The reffing was horrible, but in the end didn't matter. Wouldn't surprise me to see him redeem this match at the next Olympics.

  50. Not too sure about shenanigans, but Micic is the reigning 57kg world Champ. He earned his way there and it's unlikely that whichever person would've replaced him would be a medal threat. It's disappointing on many levels, but Micic doesn't deserve any flak for getting injured training for the biggest stage in the world.
