  2. Stevan Micic is a World Champion! Even though he'd already dropped the '21 Olympic champ and the '22 World Champ, the Japanese, Higuchi, that he faced in the final is the consensus most talented 57kg athlete in the world. Higuchi hasn't been able to stay consistently down at the weight since taking silver at age 20 at the Olympics in 2016. He won World gold last year up at 61kg. But not this year. Micic takes out a murderers' row and wins gold!!!

  5. Yes he did. World championships the year before the Olympics is just as hard as the Olympics. You get every nation's best, at their best--because it's an Olympic qualifying tournament. Stevan Micic is into the gold medal match after knocking off the 2021 Olympic champ and 2022 reigning World champ in back-to-back matches. Our suspicions were correct. Stevan Micic is an all-time great.

it was publicly complained about last year at worlds, but, i was a bit skeptical even though all of the serbian greco guys looked much bigger second day... then seeing Micic show up yesterday confirmed it for me... having seen Micic literally for years... watching in HS... knowing how hard 57kg was for him to make in the olympics and seeing him look like a ghost in tokyo... seeing him look like a starving dog making 33 for a college season... and then seeing him on full feed in his first match, my son called it immediately and i 100% agree with him... once you see it it is painfully obvious... you don't have to believe it... totally your prerogative to keep your head in the sand...

How do you know he didn't weigh in? I still don't understand?? Help us get the picture with facts instead of eyeball conjecture? How can this possibly happen that one person is exempt from the process but only you are hearing about it?? I'm not a blind fanboy like some people might tend to be. I'm open to facts if there are witnesses confirming he wasn't at weigh-ins or that Serbians weighed in separately. This is an Indiana message board and Micic was an Indiana kid. We'd love to know the real circumstances if there's something there?

  9. They are strictly qualification tournaments for those that haven't qualified already.

Micic and Serbia steal a gold medal… on top of not weighing in, a blatant fleeing the mat gets overturned that would have won the match for higuchi… This as bad as anything I have personally witnessed in wrestling… These types of shenanigans is what got wrestling almost removed from the Olympics… I am physically angry…

Don’t get me wrong I much prefer the seeding and ranking event system we have now, but one of the things I’ve really enjoyed about this years worlds is the crazy brackets with unseeded guys all over the place. Just for once was good to be reminded of the old days.

  14. Yeah, there was probably only 2 of the best 7 in the bottom half. One eliminated the other. The fresher Armenian upset the remaining stud and Seabass Rivera stunned the Armenian in a semifinal of maybe #12 vs #8. Draws definitely matter. There's a Pan Am qualifier where we'd need top 2. Roadblocks there in the mostly blind draw system are Valdes of Cuba and Destribats of Argentina (eliminated us by pinning Zain last cycle; also lost a thriller to Yianni recently). No True 2nd, so you have to reach the final. If we fail at the Pan Am qualifier, there's a global last-chance qualifier where we need top 3. There is a True 3rd there. But a bunch of hammers are falling into the global pool because of the bracket nonsense today.

  15. Sadly, Nick got knocked out when the Iranian lost at the last second in the semis. He would have had a legit shot at bronze, or at least True 5th to qualify the weight for the Olympics. Well, the same Russian background beast wrestling for Bahrain that crushed Snyder in the quarters, also smashed Sadulaev in the semis. There's a new king, apparently. Barring another upset, Snyder will face Sadulaev for BRONZE. Who predicted that?

  16. None of the Russians have been allowed to wrestle in the last year so they didn't have any ranking or seeding points. Looks like we'll win the team race.

last year at worlds in serbia there were many greco competitors grumbling that the Serbians in the finals did not weigh in second day... they all looked big... then yesterday seeing Micic look like an absolute monster at 57... not looking sucked down at all... big and healthy... it was a bit shocking to me... you go look at him in tokyo at 57 or when he was making 133lbs in college and he looked way healthier and bigger yesterday... the way he wore down Uguev and Abakarov was telling... he absolutely dwarfed everyone... clearly it is conjecture on my part, but, Micic damn sure did not pass the eye test at all... and the way he celebrated after "beating" two of the absolute best felt greasy and shameful to me...

Wait, Aliyev beat Ochir? It was 5-2 Ochir when it finished so I closed the stream, but Aliyev challenged and they reversed a TD for Ochir and gave a caution instead so Aliyev won 3*-3, wow
