  1. Was trying to explain to an out of state coworker how our state series works and was trying to find a map that showed how the state was divided up. Couldn't find one, was bored at work so I made a crude map that shows how the state schools are broken down into regionals by color. The school lists were pulled from the indiana mat bracket page. Thought it was neat. Regionals MAp.pdf

  3. There are story lines at the upper weights 182 - After winning regionals as a freshman, Van Skinner has been battling Olympians, can he shake what's become his kryptonite and pick up another regional championship? 195 - Can any one stop the human Tank from Scottsburg, Bryson Matta? 220 - The Morrill of story here is no one is stopping Tommy 220 285 - Land/McMahon 3 - McMahon won a wild one at Jeff Duals, there was like 30-35 points on the board, then he takes the HHC title in a little less dramatic fashion. But Land is a triple-crowner and as mentioned above, we are at Jeff, will the day finish w/ the Red Devin on top?

  7. Below are the Team State classification assignments for 2023, using the same enrollment data the IHSAA uses for this season and only including teams with at least 7 participants at sectional. 269 schools: 37 into 4A by virtue of 2000+ enrollment plus opt-ins Cathedral and Mater Dei 58 into 3A (25% of remaining schools after 4A assignments) 87 into 2A (50% of remaining schools after 4A/3A assignments) 87 into 1A (50% of remaining schools after 4A/3A assignments) Team State Classification 2023.xlsx

  9. I can't imagine we have seen an Indiana team ranked higher. But also, the rankings have probably never been more accurate with the help of sites like Indianamat and Trackwrestling. I think 2003 Mater Dei was a top 20 team.

  11. This is a interesting weight, Anderson and Owen will collide in the semis to face the always stingy, super savvy, freshman Phenom Asher Ratliff. Asher's wrestling IQ is off the charts. Whoever wins in the semis will need to score 3-4 takedowns IMO to beat Ratliff (tall task). He has a 3-0 record against Owens and Anderson already with a combined score of 16-6. Owens being a senior may be feeling the pressure to go out big in his last high school post season, and can hit big moves from anywhere. Anderson and the entire East team are battle tested, and like to keep the score low. If Anderson can keep the score close, and keep Owen from hitting any big moves will probably make it to the finals. My prediction is Anderson over Owens 3-1 and Ratliff over Anderson in the finals 5-2.

Yeah the only guys that could effectively move Snyder around were 2020 Mohammadian and Goleij, and I think it’s far to assume the Mohammadian of three years ago isn’t coming back.

  31. I know it wasn't a real rivalry, but Gibson Southern had as much respect and animosity towards MD in the mid - late 90's as anyone. We had top 20 teams and had to square off with them at team regionals in the middle of their hay day. My sophomore year, the instructions were to not get pinned. I ended up on the front page of the Evansville Courier Sports page being teched by Van Ness. I then witnessed the best wrestler I had ever seen (Greg Schaefer) tech our 112. We did our part with no pins, but obviously fell well short of the upset. The next year we inched closer, but still fell short in the regional finals. I lost a decision to Todich that year. MD was always so technically sound, no mistakes. I took it as stalling at the time, but they were all well trained wrestlers. They were the standard, and beating one of their wrestlers would have been the pinnacle for me. I never got the chance my senior year. I agreed with the MD vs Indiana post made earlier. Everyone was gunning for them back in the day.

Most other tournaments allow a "free" weigh-in later in the same evening. This is flat out paying for a competitive advantage. This is not right and should be corrected with a free weigh-in on Saturday night.

The real questions is how does someone so disconnected and lost from our sport like faulkins (note lower case cause he doesn't deserve capital letter) become so powerful in decision making and everyone falls in line. too bad we can't elect our wrestling state representative, cause the guy we have sucks; really hope he reads this and decides to retire.......
