In my opinion they count if received in a dual meet if you're getting a BYE in an individual tournament that does not count towards your record. However a FF scores 6 points for the team in a dual meet and if you get a FF in an individual tournament it is 2 bonus points for your team. I think if you're earning your team points the win counts. Especially in duals where teams have a kid at the weight and decide not to wrestle them!

Undefeated sounds great but strength of schedule has a huge impact. Facing tough competition week in and week out will take you farther in the state tournament than a pretty record. Even a loss or two from top competition can be great learning opportunities. Everyone knows this. With that said, my sophomore son is currently 17 - 0 (16 pins and a 2nd period tech fall). 25-0 including forfeits. He is unranked. He was a semi state qualifier last year as a freshman. He flys under the radar because our schedule is weaker than most. That’s perfectly ok. I frequently remind him to stay humble and focused as he will face some hammers in the near future. It’s his job to be ready when that time comes.

When sectional seeding meetings come around, winning % becomes seeding criteria. However, winning % for this criteria is calculated WITHOUT ff's. I feel it penalizes some kids, due to other teams not having kids at those weight classes or when coaches bump or sit a kid against you, for whatever reason.

This is likely the deepest or one of the deepest team state finals we have ever had. Fans win.

OKAYYY - So, after giving it a couple of days and finally having some free time I'll write this because I know it's clearly the biggest area of concern. TrackWrestling. I cannot confirm or deny whether it will happen next year or not. Regardless, my hope is if not next year, then absolutely the year after that (2023). Straight from the word of mouth from my AD. The wiring is all ran and ready to be live, however, the one (or few) final components that actually send the signal to the big antenna in space is still on backorder (7 months+) by now. Soooo, the goal, and I say this cautiously optimistic is that in the off-season we will hold a tournament (Similar to rumble in the bowl) that happened in 2013&14 and use Track as a testing grounds for running a wrestling tournament in that capacity. Hopefully we will have all the kinks and technology issues figured out and by this time next year we can have the 49th Spartan Classic that will be ran through TrackWrestling. Leaving us with I'm sure a brighter future for this tournament along with, in short, working smarter, not harder.

Ayala with a tf(3:57) win Then falls in conso round via tf to Jayden Carson Matt Lee- also out. lost 3-0 to 2x Tx state champ Tyler Brennan won conso of 16 #1 but then falls 3-2 in conso #2 to teammate and 4x Michigan state champ Alex Facundo Joe Lee- came in as the 5 seed Rd 32 beat 2x Tn state champ Bennett Jackson 10-5 Rd 16 beat Charlie Darracott who was a 3x GA state champ 8-6 loses to 4 seed and 1x State winner Chase Saldate. on deck for him is AJ Kovacs. A NY state and runner up as well as Conn state champ. Also 2019 Flo Nats champ.

Had to watch on Flo as I was unable to make it to Evansville. From the first takedown to the second Flo cut out, Johnson controlled the match, and then as I saw the part I missed due to Flo’s technical issues on our film, it didn’t look like Ralph straight up beat him to me. Now, I’ve coached the kid for the last three years, so admittedly some of my bias is probably showing. I know what that kid is capable of and how much better he’s gotten and his mat strategy.

In all fairness I watched the entire finals and this match was the best finals match. Sollars and Little match got best match of the tourney but most coaches had already turned in there best match and outstanding wrestler votes. And this match was the last match of the tourney. I watched Johnson all weekend and this dude was a pit bull! Super athletic and arguably the fastest HWT in the state on his feet inside the circle! After Ralph got taken down he seemed to flip the switch. Everyone knew Johnson was the favorite besides Ralph I guess… He wrestled with a chip on his shoulder and right before the near fall points the entire gym was chanting his name. I remember when no one wanted to watch 220 & 285! Not anymore man these big dudes are super athletic and fun to watch! It’s great for the sport and anyone who left before that match missed out! Awesome match from both those studs! Chances are we will see it again!

Good to know as I will be heading into my first sectional seeding meeting this season. That will definitely hurt kids but oh well, with our state tournament you have to beat everyone to win it all!

I completely agree with this! We saw them at nearly every offseason tournament. I coached a high rollers team this summer and even when they weren’t coaching they were there supporting their kids. They have built some pretty tough wrestlers there and great kids as well. Every single one that wrestled for us approached me and said hi this weekend at Mooresville. Keep up the great work down there you guys are doing awesome!

Owen Valley: Coach Casey Bybee is an awesome assistant coach. Steven Spicer is an awesome head coach. They are both fully committed to developing the Owen Valley wrestlers into full-on quality men and competitors. I am very thankful for them both. They have totally turned the program around 100% in a few years' time. The staff shows up in-season, off-season, any time. They care about the kids and I'm sure they've turned down more lucrative and prestigious offers. Thanks to all the coaches that help us parents get the important lessons wrestling can teach to our kids. Happy new year!

You know it’s almost tourney time by the stages of posts on the forum. The stages before the state tournament stage 1: training he is on a mission this year, changed his training Stage 2: rankings disputes hates where they are ranked or not ranked but closes every message with “not that rankings matter” Stage 3: getting chippy is upset at every post about their favorite wrestler or team and they will use it as extra motivation. (The stage we are in) stage 4: the dark horses these guys are going to make a run and knock off many ranked wrestlers Stage 5: the actual state tournament This is where we actually wrestle the state tournament stage 6: the I told you so the message of I told that was going to happen but you didn’t want to listen but those payout 1 in 50 rememer it’s a long season and the message board is a lot of fun. We have an amazing community don’t take everything so serious. Look through all 1000 posts that I have posted in the last however many years this forum has been around and find one where I dog a kid or wish them anything bad. You will not find it. It's just not in my character. Obviously you know what I have been trying to help do in the area. If you ever have any confusion with my intentions please feel free to just come and talk to me personally. I am pretty easy going dude as long as it isn't in middle of a wrestling match.

Davison, Michigan- ranked 8th in the country - isn’t a top ranked team. I think you did mean to “take something away” from Brownsburg. We are still riding back from representing Indiana in Michigan. We got a good chuckle out of it. Nothing but respect for Mater Dei. They have taken us out two years in a row at dual state. Davison, however, is a pretty solid high school wrestling team. Snyder

I am trying to not be biased! But I do think Nick has a strong chance to win again.

I love Snider. I cheer for the guys in our Semi-State once we get to state. The guys I do not like happen to be from the same regional. They drew a line in the sand years ago. So if it ain’t Snider or Bellmont:(Bellmont staff and students have always been respectful to me): forget about it. This is war! Oak Hill and Western are cool as well. No problems with Jay County.
