  2. @FCFIGHTER170 These Cascade boys have been through a lot together between the tragic loss of a teammate last year and a football coach just a week ago. They have come together following Quinn's "Family" motto that he preaches daily. They are wrestling and supporting eachother with goals in mind! They have had increddible energy all year! They aren't done yet! #KadeoStrong #RIPCoachKing #CadetsOnTheClimb

  3. They def put their comp in the dishwasher today and were fun to watch as a team because they all where cheering for one anther on their feet with every kid focused on the match at hand and unlike many teams weren't off wondering around fraternizing with everybody else or on their phones.. They are the perfect example of what a small school can do in a area that have elite teams/wrestlers , yet they don't let the big dogs presence discourage their effort or attitudes.. They are representing Hendricks county wonderfully on the 1A scene, Quinn ALWAYS has the kids in mind with every thing he does and let's the rest take care of itself... He has no kids of his own on the team or cares nothing about any monetary gain he does this out of love and passion he has for the sport, and like any great coach before him, I can tell that he has what it takes to instill values, morals, work ethic and a winning pedigree in all his wrestlers... Those facets are what manufactures a winning culture and a successful program.. I can relate because I want each and every kid in the state to do well, not just the kids I help.. Anybody in this sport for the right reasons (the kids) should want to see the sport evolve so we all have to elevate our expectations, and the quality of our opponents to a high level so when our meat grinder of a state tourney comes, all our kids are battle tested and most importantly they in turn mature and become better human, competitor's, students and leaders of tomorrow.. It is much easier to raise strong Children than it is to repair Broken Men/women...I appreciate every single person in the sport that really has nothing but the Kids best interests in mind, Wrestling is one big crazy family that stood always strive for nothing less than the best for our kids and the wrestling community all a whole.

  7. From Kyle Osborn Invite: Hayden Shepherd- Western and Ryan Cast-HSE wrestled a very tough gritty match, with Shepherd winning 5-3 in sudden Victory. Both had to take out tough semifinal opponents on their way there too. Jack Milligan from Carmel pinned Trey White of Portage at HWT in semis before losing 5-2 to Dom Burgett-HSE again. Zach Lang-HSE beat #18 Luke Farling for the second time this year, this time by 5. Cory Hill of Portage looked great all day. Michael Major is super impressive as is Isaac Ward, both of Carmel.

  11. I'm undefeated from my senior year at 119 to 220 now. 27 years later! I have had success with chicken wings, pizza, adult beverages and swearing off such things as push ups, pull ups, sit ups, and running. You want to put on weight? I'll show you how! During my junior year I promised myself I'd die old, fat, and happy, I might not make it to old but fat and happy are an achievement made for sure! In all seriousness, I hate the idea of starving to cut weight, I get the concept, trust me, I get it! I wish we could change the mindset, there is nothing wrong with being healthy but by all means lets EAT HEALTHY! I believe a lot of energy and talent are wasted by cutting weight, just look at summer wrestling when guys are eating more, maybe not eating right but eating more, and having fun! Remember freestyle matches when guys would put it all out there just to get a 5 pt. throw? Try doing that on lentil beans and a quarter chicken breast!

  16. McDonald had 7 losses that year and 6 were to Happe. The other was to a guy at a tournament in Tennessee. I'm sure Andy remembers that kids name but I can't. Andy did beat a very good wrestler from Hopkins County to win the MD Holiday Classic. His other notable wins were several guys along the way through the tournament. He beat some studs at state. Happe had his # the whole season and maybe Happe had more talent but Andy had soooo much heart!

  18. This clearly can not be true because aren't you suppose to starve your body down to the bare minimum in order to have the best shot winning. In all seriousness though I think we had one of the most positive weight loss stories over the course of a HS career. We had wrestlers who had never done any sport before in MS or HS come out as a Freshman in order to help get himself in shape for his goal of being in the military. He started out as a freshman having to be our backup HWT because he was around 230. But finished his freshman years a good amount below 220, I want to say close to 200. Over the course of the next four years he kept working hard, showing up to the off season, and ate much better. As a Sophomore he started as our backup 195 weight class and made it to 189 by the end of the season getting in a some varsity time. As a Junior he was splitting time between varsity 170 and 160. He ended up being varsity 160 to start his senior season. Finished up his senior campaign at 152 qualifying for regionals. Then as he set out to do signed on to the military right after finishing up school. And seems to be still living a pretty healthy lifestyle to this today.

Wright vs Eppert has got to be one of the biggest HS career long ones. Multiple years of battling from sectionals all the way to the state finals. Including one of the most controversial sectional seeding meetings in existence. The one year Kleinhenz and VanDeveter faced each other like 8 time including the state-finals accounting for I think all Kleinhenz loses was crazy. I think there was another similar story like this with another group of big men facing each other a ton in one year.

Who has had the most success after bumping up in weight by more than one weight class, off the top of my head Trey Reese (Indian Creek) went from 160 to 215 and won a title Brian Harvey (Cathedral) went from 130 to 160 and won a title Sean McMurray (Portage) went from 112 to 135 won a Title and 135 to 152 and won a title Are there any other ones that should be mentioned, thoughts?

At least this affirms just how interesting the individual state finals should get, especially with a few IN studs likely playing spoiler at some point.

  43. Those guys were/are all fantastic high school wrestlers. But only Parris continued that path at the D1 level. It's too early to tell how Carroll, Ruhlman, etc will do at that level, but they will have their shot. Problem with 220 is that they likely have to bulk up even more to be a decent sized heavy or suck a lot of weight to get to 197 in college, which could potentially cause them to lose some of what made them very good 220's. They are tweeners in college for the most part.

    Greatest Rivalries

I've been pretty fortunate to be close to a few great rivalries. In order of when they happened: 1. Vega vs Schaefer Schaefer beats Vega in the semis and wins in 1995. Vega with thrilling last second win in 1996. Vega wins in the finals in 1997. The one thing that really impacted me as a young coach and I will never forget this. Vega wins in the battle of two top 10 guys in the country. 10,000 fans cheering and as a young coach, I'm crazy ecstatic for his win.....Schaefer comes over to shake my hand. He looks me in the eye and says with the utmost sincerity, "Congratulations coach, Leroy is a great competitor". I will always be a fan of Greg Schaefer because of that. 2. Bradbury vs Ramos Not sure the Hobart faithful would call this one a rivalry because Ramos was 13-0 verse Bradbury. If anyone knows the Hobart faithful of that time, you would understand why I would hesitate to say that Bradbury was winning in the third period 6 or 7 times. (the Hobart faithful were quick to correct any error and let me know if it was only 5 or maybe 9.....and my corrections from the Hobart faithful usually ended with a "come on Eddie" and a very region insult. The 13th time they wrestled was in the state finals. Bradbury was up 4 with choice going into the third. We thought for sure this was the match he would win. Ramos was a great competitor and once again, found a way to win. 3. Eppert vs Wright I believe these two wrestled in the finals of Regional, Semi State, and State three years in a row. Eppert was a workhorse and Wright was the ultimate athlete. Every time Eppert made an adjustment to what Wright was doing, Wright would add a new skill. It was a great chess match. Wright and his dad were brilliant, and Camden just kept adjusting. All six of these guys are great people and it was great for Indiana wrestling to have been able to watch!
