  1. Evansville.. without a doubt. Eville has several kids who won't make it to state but could win other semi states or be favored to place top four in other semi states. Maybe the IHSAA will redistrict and break up the teams heading south for February. This year Evansville has the top two 1A teams, #19 2A team, five of the top 10 3A teams, three of the top nine 4A teams. Lets give West Lafayette the ECC semi state and send some Evansville teams up there! Looking at the state map, literally, the entire south of Indy goes to one semi state but the north has two and east side has one. I understand the population aspect but dang! The loser of Hayhurst and Watson could WIN FW and ECC and place top 2 at NC. The loser of Conway and Rust could win ECC and FW and place top 4 at NC but one will be sent home. The loser of Hunter May and Blaze Garcia could place at any other semi state but one will be sent home. Cash Turner is a state placer and will run into Super Frosh Brady Ison in the ticket round. He would be top 2 at Fort Wayne. Diesel Duncan, Colin Knox, and Colton Roberts are top 15 kids who could place top 4 at any other semi state

  3. My kids have wrestled in both the NC semi state and Evansville. I won’t speak for EC cause I’ve never been to it. I will say that top to bottom, Evansville is a dream crusher for so many kids that win their regional. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of talent with Perry, Warren Central, Cathedral and others at NC. But having Avon, Brownsburg, Mater Dei, Franklin, Center Grove, etc feeding Evansville just crushes the hopes of kids from the smaller schools in the south. Evansville is so tough every year. Honestly, based on my kid’s weight, I am really glad he’s gonna be at NC.

  4. Then don't complain when the rankings aren't as you wish they were. If you don't report the result then you can't blame the rankers for missing something. All of the rankers do a fantastic job of compiling information from hundreds of kids. Missing one result isn't the end of the world.

  5. Congratulations to the 258 Freshmen and Sophomores who qualified for their IHSAA Semi-States ... of the 896 Semi-State spots. Good luck on Saturday at your respective IHSAA Semi-States. They have been imported into the Indiana Frosh-Soph State Championship with a "3" Separation Criteria (similar to seed). These wrestlers are not permitted in the North or South Frosh-Soph Qualifiers. Advancement to the Semi-State Quarter-Finals changes the Separation Criteria to "2", and State Qualifiers become a "1". Congrats in advance to any IHSAA State Place-winners ... they will be removed from the Frosh-Soph event. Good luck to all.

  6. I could not agree less. Annually for 10+ years I have created dozens of spreadsheets detailing the accuracy of the rankings. IndianaMat rankings is incredibly accurate/consistent. I do not want the SS to be seeded, but if they did decide to do it, using the rankings would be an intelligent start for the process.

  7. Yes it's him! He does show the kids stuff and he's still in great shape.. Couldn't ask for a better AD especially for wrestling... He already has seen to it the team is getting resources and not putting the team on the back burner to basketball, our school is really really big into basketball
    3 points
  8. Wait!!!... the AD is Ben Wissel? The same one that wrestled at Purdue and coached at Duke??? He’s the AD at New Castle? If that is him.... does he come in and wrestle? That dude is awesome.

  9. East Chicago has 68 state ranked wrestlers. Fort Wayne has 71 state ranked wrestlers. New Castle has 88 state ranked wrestlers. Jasper has 103 state ranked wrestlers. --however-- East Chicago has 27 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. Fort Wayne has 12 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. New Castle has 29 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. Jasper has 37 wrestlers ranked in the top 8. --HOWEVER-- East Chicago has 5 #1 ranked wrestlers. Fort Wayne has 1 #1 ranked wrestler. New Castle has 5 #1 ranked wrestlers. Jasper has 3 #1 ranked wrestlers. These numbers probably aren't exact but I think it gives accurate enough to start forming an argument on which semi-state is the toughest, it really all depends on how you judge the toughness of a semi-state. If you go purely by ranked wrestlers, there could be a semi-state with a lot of lower ranked wrestlers, but more overall than a semi-state with less ranked wrestlers but more quality wrestlers. And of course, if you go strictly by the amount of champs that a semi-state produces, there's an argument to be made there too.

  10. Guarantee ppl would not drag their feet on reporting results! Some Ppl think rankings don't matter and in relation to getting your guy prepped for a guy and competing it doesn't but when it comes to getting a kid looked at for college (I know many big schools only care about grades and National scene usually) opportunites and having educated insight on the quality and depth of our talent then Rankings are huge.. Then you add the seeding purposes in this kind of scenario, if needed...I appreciate the heck out of the hard work these guys dedicate and volunteer and too many times does it get taken for granted..I think we're going in a better direction and would like to know if we're improving in the Result reporting @Y2CJ41 do you have any stats on that or a guess on that? I'm going to make it a obligation next year too at least report NC results better and insert big results that I see that haven't been entered in the significant result categories that I see across the board.. I'm a stat head and enjoy doing that stuff.. Anyways I think we all can agree there needs to be Wrestle backs at SS and state!

    Ticket fees... wow!!

A ticket for the Ft Wayne semistate is $11.50 .... before the fees.... there is a $7.05 service fee and a $5.25 processing fee and a .50 facility fee PER ticket.... So the fees actually cost more than the ticket itself!!!!! Gotta love Ticketmaster.....

  15. Last year I inputted individual results to earn 50,000+ bananas— if everyone would do their own it would most definitely make it more efficient/accurate, but the rankings are rock-solid.

  16. It really does cycle, though. There are a bunch of Marion county schools that are way down right now and some of the southern schools on an upswing. There have been years when NC was clearly both the deepest and had the most champs. Merrillville/ECC had a good long run as both the deepest and most champ-filled semi-state too. Their depth has fallen way, way down despite some of the high-end talent keeping it very relevant in the later rounds at state. Even FW had long stretches historically of being strong--although it's current spot at #4 seems it's become systemic at this point since it's endured for nearly 20 years.

  17. 103...out of a possible 224.... So almost 50% of the time you are getting a ranked wrestler. I think this by far makes it the harder tournament. Yes kids ranked #1 will have an easy road (or should) and they make it hard on everyone around them... but if every kid you wrestle is ranked... thats like being at state already. Mooresville regional is what kills it. Having so many studs forces people that would normally win regionals to take 2nd or 3rd and set up death draws

@Perseverance Eric Allred, met you back in 2007 at Muncie Pal Club as we introduce our sons into this great sport of wrestling. Our sons brought us together in many ways . I’ll always remember you as Big E, Coach Gonzales called you that many times . As Big E told me, “who would of ever thought 2 Fathers from The Mean Streets of Muncie would have 5 State Championships together” You will always be a inspiration to me & my Family. The wrestling community lost a great Man, Father, Husband & Friend . God Bless You My Friend Rest In Peace I’ll add Perseverance was Eric, not only his screen name here but he lived his life as that word . Next time you hear the word Perseverance remember Eric Allred as it . Always was a fighter, he was born a Champion .

  20. Purdue loses to Iowa 18-31 and Ohio State 12-23. I only remember one Indiana wrestler getting a win and that was 197 Thomas Penola against OSU. He lost to Iowa's #5 ranked Warner 9-4. Wabash, Trine, and Manchester were supposed to have a tournament but I cant find results. Remember Manzona Bryant? He wrestles for Lehigh now. For Army, Christian Hunt and Brad Laughlin got a win in exhibition.

  22. Speaking of crap draws, here are a few 1st Round tough draws and interesting matches at the Jasper/Evansville SS.... 1. @106 Zane Schreck vs. Blake Zirklebach - Winner likely draws Jackson Heaston in the ticket round. Whoever gets to the Semifinal will have earned it! 2. @126 I see 3 interesting 1st round matches, 2 are rematches from earlier in the year. - Memorial's Keegan Williams will look to avenge a 5-0 loss to New Albany's Paul King in a 1-4 matchup. - Harrison's Kaliq Boyd owns a 7-4 win over Tell City's Brayden Lain. Can he do it again? - MD's Jacob Pierre will look to avoid early elimination as an underdog against Edgewood's Cash Turner. 3. @138 the bracket is loaded with top talent, with 4 of the top 6 in the State. Unfortunately, two of those will square off in round 1. Ben Davis Diesel Duncan will face Delaney Ruhlman from Bloomington South. 4. Can't consider these bad draws, but two interesting matches at 152 nonetheless. - Ev. Central's Luke Robards will face off against Jasper's Jeb Prechtel. Both tough wrestlers. - Undefeated Ben Phillips from Charlestown squares off against Logan Carrington of Greencastle. Could we see a 4 over 1 here? 5. @195 2 1st round matchups will send a solid wrestler home. - Harris Eason should be favored over Mt. Vernon's Blake Ritzert, but Ritzert won't be an easy out. - Another favorite from the Mooresville Regional will be Avon's Ke'Shawn Dickens over Mater Dei's Clay Martin. Martin is sneaky good, but hasn't been able to solve NP's Wyatt Willman the last 2 weeks. Don't sleep in Martin, but he'll have to start the day off with an upset. 6. Mater Dei's James Ralph has improved immensely this year @285 and is a Regional Champion. But his reward is State 5th Ranked Jacob Johnson of Franklin Community. Ralph will have an uphill battle to qualify for State. Johnson beat Ralph 2-1 in the 2019 Mater Dei Holiday Classic in the 3rd Place Match.

  29. I really think Phillips is on a different level this year. He just majored a REALLY tough Tyler Williams that lost to Rust 9-7. And he beat state 4th in state last year Jordan Fulks 8-2. Not saying he can't lose but saying he is really looking good. Also his teammate Colin Knox got one of if not the worst draw in the state. He is undefeated and lost in ticket round last year in a tough match. He has to get thru Ruhlman. Although i dont think there is no way that is gonna happen i think there should be more talk about this death draw. My buddy Adam Doherty has done a nice job with a small school and has a few shots at some wrestlers punching their ticket.
