The people have spoken. Thanks for all the input. President Greg Ratliff, tournament director JD Minch, and others have put their heads together and figured out proposed ways to make 20 mats work so that we can run with the idea of 8 teams in 3A and 4A and 12 teams in 1A and 2A. See the updated nitty gritty details in the original post. Cheers7 points

Not sure if it will play but can be googled if not... Good on Coach Harper @crosstownrivals and the entire penn program. Glad my son went thru the program. Special appearance by ref Troy! LOL...why is there a pic of @Y2CJ41 in the Penn wrestling room (about 30 second mark)? I shall have that taken down next time I'm there...6 points -

The Berne Witness will webcast the ACAC tournament this Friday night beginning at approximately 7 p.m. Our broadcast will be available on our website (bernewitness.com), on IHSAAtv, through our YouTube channel and on our Facebook page. This is the beginning of four straight weeks of wrestling webcasts for us. We'll also have the sectional and regional tournaments at Jay County and the Fort Wayne Semi-State.5 points -

The young man has the killer instinct! He’s a gamer to. He has a lot of elite national experience as well. He will always turn it up on tourney day! 160 as a freshman is most definitely a hammer weight class for a freshman but I’m sure he will be ready to bang at semi state! Would love to see him at Bankers.4 points -
Purdue getting some love on Flo
regionfather10 and 2 others reacted to wrestlenewbie for a topic
Flowrestling's mid-season awards article posted today. Their Coach of the Year pick? Tony Ersland, Purdue. They had this to say: While things like the Hodge and Freshman of the Year are a little easier in March because we have the final NCAA results, something like Coach of the Year is a little less straightforward. There are several ways to look at it, from giving it to the coach of the title team to a guy earning it for an unexpected team trophy or first national champ, as well as factoring in dual performance and how a program improves throughout the year. There's no question Tom Brands would be a justified choice if Iowa wins its first national title in a decade, and on the other side if Penn State overcomes their bevy of injuries Cael Sanderson could be a wise choice. Wisconsin's first team trophy since 2010 would likely get Chris Bono some discussion and likely be the result of Tristan Moran going from preseason #11 to high All-American, plus a Seth Gross national title after transferring in. But right now I'm looking at some other coaches in the Big Ten in Tony Ersland of Purdue and Matt Storniolo of Northwestern. Right now Ersland has the edge there due to the Boilermakers' 21-13 win over the Wildcats in Evanston, though Sebastian Rivera and Yahya Thomas both missed that dual. Purdue started the year unranked and is up to #10 in our tournament rankings, while Northwestern went up from 16th to 8th. Similarly Virginia Tech has climbed from 18th to start the year to #11 now, and that's without the services of NCAA champ Mekhi Lewis while also suffering season ending injuries to Korbin Myers and Brent Moore. They're second in our dual rankings and begin their ACC schedule this Friday against North Carolina. We should also mention Mark Manning after Nebraska won CKLV and Chris Ayres taking Princeton from 15th in the preseason to #8 right now. Coach of the Year is also tricky because it singles out the head coach for something that also includes the work of his assistants and the accomplishments of their athletes. While Sanderson and Brands are tremendous coaches, I'm more partial to the somewhat backhanded description of "most with the least," and to this point in January that is Ersland. He's taken Devin Schroder from 12 to 6, Kendall Coleman from unranked to sixth, Dylan Lydy up eight spots to #4, and Christian Brunner jumping five spots up to fifth. Finalists: Tony Ersland, Matt Storniolo, Tony Robie3 points -

yes. He looks the part too. Eli Dickens in his weight class is the only negative down here in the dirty south. That match wasn’t close and will happen again Saturday. Plus he has an excellent partner in the room in Deters so you know he’s improving this year.3 points -

My daughter, Grace Harris, was nominated for “NUWAY Wrestler of the week”. She went 5-0 in 7u boys division at Mat Mayhem, a state based duals in Louisville. If you could take 20 seconds and follow the link then scroll down and vote for Grace Harris it’s much appreciated! She’s the only Indiana girl in the running!! Let’s show some Hoosier wrestling support!!! She’s barely leading, let’s help put this away!! https://www.nuwaywrestling.com/page/show/5333962-wrestler-of-the-week2 points -

Doesn’t make sense for them to block the entry list if they are allowing wrestlers to change weight classes. Personally, they should do it like Tulsa. Block the entry list, make weight at what you register at. If you don’t make it go home. But if you are going to allow weight class changes at weigh-ins, then just unblock the list.2 points

IHSGW State Finals

A few things: 1. The Girls State Finals @ Kokomo were great!! The finals we awesome and they were done right.........great job!! 2. It's a lot of fun to see how much our girls are improving in the state of Indiana!!! The quality of our girls wrestlers continues to grow, and evidence of this was on full display on Friday night in Kokomo 3. I had heard rumors while we were there that there is consideration going into eliminating the 88 and 98 lb girls weights. I hope that this is not the case. The lightest collegiate girls weight class is 101. If we eliminated those 2 classes our lightest girls weight would be 106. Can you imagine if it were this way on the boys side of things? The lightest collegiate boys weight class is 125 lbs..........what if the lightest high school boys weight was 132? Crazy. Also, 88, 182, 195, 220, and 285 were not full brackets. 98 was full. I've heard no conversations of eliminating any of the upper weight classes. 4. There was also talk of going to 4 regionals throughout the state, with the top 4 from each regional advancing to state. 5. Has there been any conversation of moving to a Saturday? Just a few of my observations, opinions and questions.......feel free to comment or share 3. Is there1 point -

1988 wrestled 130 as a senior and 141 in college (142 then). Now 170. A week in the wrestling room and I’d make 160 easily. 130 + 15 (marriage) + 3 kids*10 = 175 so the math is close.1 point -

106 West is the favorite against Egli 113 through 160- Mater Dei should win first in all of them. 170-Deters vs Sollars will be a good one. 182- MD wins 195- MD will lose once...possbily twice 220-MD could lose once 285-MD could lose once, possibly twice I could see 4 to 7 losses by Mater Dei-1 point

VB not too well The gap between the top KY teams (let's say top 5, teams like Woodford, Union, Ryle, etc..) and the the rest is huge, wrestling is still growing there so there's not a lot of depth. Those upper tier teams can compete but after that it drops pretty far. For instance, VB lost to a top #15 KY team by 20 points with seven third string guys in the VB lineup but the full VB lineup got absolutely smashed by a top 6 team. But we are grateful to have the opportunity to be invited and wrestle all over Kentucky.1 point -

National Preps
base reacted to blueandgold for a topic
I wanted to start a hypothetical scenario where this actually happens, and I want you all to be careful to read each word because as we seen earlier on this thread, reading is essential and people get upset when they don't do it. Per the National Prep Board, the eligibility for teams and individuals are as follows: National Prep Wrestling Tournament Eligibility Criteria Criteria For School Eligibility Participating schools must be accredited by an established regional, independent school accreditation organization that is recognized by the appropriate state department of education and the National Association of Independent Schools. Wrestling must be a recognized varsity sport at participating schools and an interscholastic competition schedule must be published by the school for public viewing not later than December 1st. Participating schools may not take part in their state's public school state wrestling championships. Participating Schools must join the NWCA prior to their first competition and follow the NWCA / Trackwrestling / National Prep OPC weight management guidelines. Participating schools are required to operate in accordance with the National Federation Rulebook Schools that are virtual or on-line schools must be accredited and affiliated with a participating National Prep Tournament network school. Schools that rely on public funding to sponsor operations do not qualify. Schools must participate in their qualifying zone tournaments in order to be eligible to participate in the National Prep Tournament. Eligible schools that are not located in a qualifying zone will be assigned to a qualifying zone by the National Prep Board. Schools must be approved by the National Prep Board, for National Prep Tournament eligibility not later than November 1st of the season in question. Eligibility for Individual Wrestlers Must be enrolled as a full-time student at a school approved by the National Prep Board for participation not later than the end of the second week in January. May not have reached one's 19th birthday prior to August 1st of the school year in question. Eighth grade student athletes who are enrolled full-time, as an eighth grader, at an approved National Prep network school are eligible. Student-athletes, grades eight - post graduate, who are enrolled as full time students at schools that meet the national prep eligibility criteria are eligible to participate in the National Prep Tournament. In this scenario, lets say for the 2020-21 season, the independent and private secondary schools within Indiana (47 total) have decided to move forward with their own association free of travel restrictions and lets say they all can properly field a full wrestling team. We'll have them compete in the Indiana Association of Independent and Private Schools (IAIPS). Indiana Association of Independent and Private Schools (IAIPS) IAIPS Boys’ Wrestling The IAIPS Boys’ Wrestling Championships are held annually at the Mackey Arena at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The tournament is a two-part series beginning with the Section Championships and concluding with the State Championships. Sections Central Indiana Section Northern Indiana Section Southern Indiana Section Western Indiana Section Sections (cont'd) Teams can choose to compete in whatever section they desire, but each section must comprise of twelve teams with one having an uneven eleven due to 47 member schools. State Championships Top four finishers from each section qualify for state championships. Wrestlers will be entered into a seeded (1-12) 16-man bracket, placing 6 with full wrestlebacks to third place. Team champion will be decided by individual scoring. The champion or next highest placing individual per weight will qualify for the National Prep Wrestling Championships (per the qualifier allocations) in Bethlehem, PA. Rankings Rankings are done 1-12 individually by IndianaMat with a power poll determining the top wrestlers P4P along with teams ranked 1-8. Champions of Indiana Dual At the conclusion of every season, the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches’ Association (IHSWCA) organizes an all-star dual meet between that year’s IHSAA champions and IAIPS champions to determine that year’s individual Coaches’ Association champion. The Coaches’ Association awards a team championship to the IHSAA and IAIPS team champions. Note If the Coaches' Association allows, IAIPS varsity teams can compete alongside their public school counterparts within whatever particular class at the IHSWCA State Dual Championships. Within this scenario, we could see schools like Evansville Mater Dei or Indianapolis Cathedral not only compete across the country in tournaments, but we could see them allow eighth graders to compete for their respective teams, helping increase depth and grow talent pool within Indiana.1 point -

It's weird to me that people are focused on things that took place after the match, considering what we were just treated to. We have a lot of spoiled fans in this state. As far as what constitutes classlessness, I've never seen Red do anything dirty. Ive seen him take on challenges that few from Indiana have equaled or excelled. I don't see or hear anything from Red that I haven't seen or heard before. If emd fans or fans from any other school hate such 'classlessness', all you have to do is beat him to shut him up.1 point
