  1. Who was the top finishing team with a lineup consisting entirely of kids who went to elementary/middle school in that high school's feeder system?

  2. Mater Dei is one thing.. But my argument is more of Cathedral... Mosconi was a state placer from Indian Creek who transferred a few years ago. Parsons was a state placer from Yorktown who transferred. Heck, take away Parsons and do they win a state title? I think when Cathedral wins the state tournament, we should think about an asterisk being next to it. Just like LCC in class 1A football. They dominated 1A teams... I mean dominated for years. Who do they think they are? Lebron James? Stacking teams champion, LJ. My coworker's daughter was a champion...equine girl (or whatever they're called). She was recruited to the Irish from a small school. She got a scholarship. My coworker got an apartment for his wife in Indy so their daughter could get the education and opportunity. I understand. I would do the same for my kid. I love Cathedral football. They play the toughest schedule in Indiana. I guess I am against parochial schools who beat up on public schools... I also realize public school teams get high level athletes who switch schools as well. I digress. It's like arguing fo class wrestling. It's endless and no one will agree.

  3. Are we really going class size with the parochial schools???!!! EMD gets most good wrestlers within 50 miles. They got a monopoly down there. And I ain’t even mad about it. If you build it they will come. Btw... who’s got a scholarship for Brewer Jr??? Mrs Mattyb was curious. ooooppsss... delete!!!

    Team State schedule

I definitely enjoyed the schedule from yesterday's Team State Duals. 1A semi finals and finals started/finished earlier than expected........much better than the past few years waiting on all classes to finish before moving on. Not sure how close to the schedule 2A and 3A stayed, but it was nice for us to be able to watch the finals in the other two class. In my opinion, good job to the IHSWCA making some changes this year.

  7. I loved the schedule and the extra mats. I gave teams a place to warm-up after the first three rounds and their bye round. Great job getting this sorted out. I was home by 7pm, keep it in Fort Wayne please!

  8. Cathedral was technically a 2A school this year. These big schools need to get their act together.

  9. The ISWA has held elementary State duals for 10 years now. My guys have got 1st or 2nd every year and 5 titles. Pretty solid run. And... I’ll say it before Lewis does.... trophy chasing!

  10. Lots of cry-cry stuff for a state that is still single class. Either you beat who is in front of you or not.

What a day for this unseeded team taking 5th place. Now 10-7 on the year. With losses to 1A Champ North Posey 1A 4th Place Prairie Heights. 2A Champ Bellmont 2A runner up Garrett 2A 4th place Columbia City and 3A Carroll. Our strength of schedule helped us today. Great job boys.

  15. This is a subject that will upset or have someone else Butt Hurt. Since 2010 there have been kids moving to better there Future. The Whole IHSAA system is not perfect. This year I seen Girl move for Volleyball, Basketball & Softball. Watched a the Top Softball dominate in 3A for 3yrs, when the where beating the 4A schools already. Thing with the IHSAA are broke! IHSAA just makes money!! You want things fair , Private school have your OWN Stuff and Public Schools have there's !!!! JMO, Thanks JROB MAGA

    Mat side weigh ins

That could be very cool. Have Scale built into floor like they have at amusement parks. Wrestlers walk in stand on scale the weight pops up on a big jumbo tron then they run to mat.

    Team State schedule

The event was awesome and the venue was great. Plenty of room, seating close to the mats, restroom facilities are good, concessions are solid, very good all the way around. However, I reached my driveway at midnight. Something similar south of Ft. Wayne would be great. But a really great event. Good job to everyone involved.

  23. After removing teams with less than 7 entries at sectional Cathedral was the 95th biggest team in the state based on enrollment. The cutoff was 93 schools.

  24. SA had a rough go at the 8 seed, losing to the eventual champs and 5th placers. Losses to Busco and Attica came down to the last matches. I think they really just suffered from bad matchups and didn’t get the odd/evens needed. And you’re definitely right about Bluffton, I would love to have seen them vs North Posey. They’re probably the second best team in 1A right now

  27. I must correct myself. Adams Central lost by a combined 6 points in their 3 losses. I just looked at the score board and didn't realize it came down to a tie breaker on criteria. An unseeded squad nearly came home 5th (a match or two away from a top 4 too!) Amazing job by Currie and the kids on our "down year". Look out! Congrats to Bellmont. Even when we in the County think they're down and might have another rough year or two (they have a couple studs not wrestling this year and their upper weights are green horns), they pull out some great team wins. As they have all season so far. Garrett put up a good fight this time, impressed by their 106, 113, and 126. In other (area) news, SA was a disappointment to me. I thought they would compete a little better with the kids that have come up through their middle school system. They had 1 win on the day, for 11th. Jay County looked outclassed in 2A. 1 win on the day for 10th. What was up with Western and Oak Hill? I think they were the heavy favorites to be in the finals. Was not impressed by either team. I've said it many times to many people. Bluffton (1A) should have been voted in. They would have easily been top 4, most likely in the Championship. Other than that, the people who put on Team State did an amazing job. Went very fast and smooth.

  29. Can’t say that for sure(other than it’s done now). Had Ross picked up one more point and then Boarman not have lost,EMD wins by 1. You act like they were too far out of it. Kudos to Cathedral though on going out and getting it done.

  31. Yes. We seen it. It was frustrating to me that a call like that was missed. It doesn’t mean we would’ve won by any means. Nonetheless Bellmont was the better team. Hats off to them. We wrestled tough.

  36. I just want to say thank you to IndianaMat for providing us with great content over this last decade and making this website highly accessible for those either getting into wrestling or those who have been around it for years. We don’t know how good we have it, guys. The only thing we have to pay for every year is the preseason magazine. Other states have followed a new custom of charging fans for things such as rankings, articles, etc. and IndianaMat has allowed us to be on here and explore with no charge. Thanks guys for all you do for Indiana wrestling. I love this sport so much.

    Weight certification

Generally, I hate to see any negative posts about our sport. However, I have heard alarming news (parents from the team)that a HS coach had access to change the “alpha weights” (IHSAA certification)and did so for his kids. First of all, why do coaches have access to this? (I thought it was an AD thing). Secondly, if our system is foolproof why does this happen? In late 80’s and early 90’s our sport suffered losses due to improper weight management. I hope this isn’t true but needs to be addressed if it occurred. Please enlighten me with knowledge about this. Bryan Bailey bebailey73@hotmail.com 2693524526

  38. I agree wholeheartedly. We truly are blessed in Indiana to have this as a way not only to share personal “feelings” etc but it definately is helping build wrestling in Indiana. Joe and Mike and the “others” thank you very much. Your efforts and what you do are noticed.

    Sportsmaniship

I would just like to give credit to the young men and coaches for carrying yourselves like champions win or lose this weekend. The overwhelming majority showed great sportsmanship and respect for their competitors no matter the match outcome. There are a lot of people that want to point out the negative, but I think it's important that we take a minute and point out the positive, as well. Way to represent your school, your wrestling program, your coaches, and your family! These young men have put a lot of time, sweat, and tears (and certainly a lot of blood) into this and when you don't get the outcome you desire, it is tough to control your emotions. These life lessons are far more important than any win or loss. Well done to the competitors and well done to the coaching staffs.
