  1. Then we have Sollars beating Ruhlman and losing to Deters in a match that had some bad calls.. 170 is definitely going to be the best weight in the State Tourny.

  2. Shout out to Roncalli's Michael Fletcher (195) who entered the tournament at 4-12. He defeated 5 seed Mt. Vernon's Blake Ritzert (was 15-1) and Trinity's Ryan Martin (was 10-3 and a KY State Qualifier).

  7. Silas Allred will pursue his 4th consecutive Spartan Classic title this weekend. Due to my relative infancy regarding following the sport...I’m hoping others on the site can provide me with a possible list of other 4x winners, and/or the most recent. Thanks in advance for any info or clarity provided. It will be used by our school, local newspapers, program, and a proud dad’s ego stroking.

  8. Chesterton’s #9 Gavin Layman versus Cathedral’s #10 Tyler Wagner was a great OT match with Layman winning 4-2 at Al Smith 170#.

  10. Tyce Frieje wins by 1-0 dec over Scott Fitts. The lone point was a penalty point, on a full nelson, I believe. Both wrestlers rode well on top. Gotta run for now..... Navy, mind doing a Round 1 recap?

  13. Thanks again for the updates SWINfan. I plan on being there “live” tomorrow but had too many honey do’s today. Maybe I can return the favor tomorrow.

  14. I take full responsibility for not following Swin's rules and posting under Al Smith thread (I know better!) ..but... Steenbeke vs Rodgers in quarters will be a good measuring stick for the Penn freshman. Not saying he's winning, so calm down, but will should be a good early career match vs a state champ. Wish I was there.....

  15. What a match at 106 to kick things off! Coy Hammack dominated Reed Egli for the first two periods and had a 6-0 lead into the 3rd. Egli could do nothing on bottom and had been taken down twice and chose top. He was able to work Hammack and get him turned for backs and eventually got the fall. Egli looked a good bit smaller than Hammack but the kid battles. Hammack is good. Expect to see him deep in the consolation bracket taking a run at 3rd Place.

Steenbeke vs Rodgers 160 will be an intriguing matchup/measuring stick for the young Penn stud.

  17. Only casually following Al Smith... but noticed an interesting first round result between state ranked wrestlers... @182 #2 Aiden Warren dec #10 Caden Friedt 4-2. Friedt, unseeded, had a 2-1 lead gave up a penalty point for stalling with :19 left and Warren landed a takedown with :09 left to get the win.

  18. Yup, I’ve seen a few dads walking in with bigger families turn to wife an ask for her purse to dig deeper. It is what it is, I’d follow along if it was possible. I’m now in Pa, doing my best to keep notice of In wrestling as best I can.

  19. The difficulty comes when you compare other states’ placement. Indiana 8th place doesn’t compare to Kentucky’s 8th place.

  20. Finals are tomorrow, I’d guess Monday morning results can be seen. Unless your there to watch, or know someone who is. They have no concern for family that would be working and couldn’t attend to get any info thru them. They want admission sales and their secrets kept lol.

  24. Wouldn’t be Adam Doherty of Jeffersonville. I beat him there in a placement match at 103 his freshman - my sophomore year in probably the highest scoring match I ever had. Something around 24-19. Cathedral’s Scott Weaver won the weight class that year over J. Collis. Collis had beat Doherty earlier to put him in the consols.
