  4. What I really like about this tournament is that by the end of the day we get 5 duals against Ohio teams. Personally, I really enjoy getting out of Indiana some during the season. At Mishawaka, we used to dual a couple Michigan powerhouses - Lakeshore and Lowell. At Brownsburg, we are better off financially and can travel more. Ohio last weekend, Michigan this weekend, and Illinois over break. As far as Harrison, OH tournament, most Ohio teams were down this year. Chad Dennis the Harrison Head Coach told me that himself about his own team. Regardless of dual scores and there not being an Ohio Powerhouse Team there this year, we always run into stud individuals. One year we went to this tournament and easily won every dual, but Ty Mills and Nathan Walton both lost. Last year we won every dual relatively easy, but State Qualifier Thierry Jean-Baptiste went. 2-3. State ranked Evan Lawhead went 2-3. 2X State Placer Kysen Montgomery lost. This year we won every dual in a lopsided fashion, but almost all of our guys got pushed. Logan Miller won in OT against big division #1 ranked Ohio kid. Drake Campbell grinded out a 3-0 win against a highly ranked Ohio kid. Peyton Asbury a 3-2 win against the stud brother of the kid Drake wrestled. Dorian Keys a 3-2 win in a bloody, physical match. State ranked Isaiah Street and Greg Glover took loses against absolute freaks. Whenever anyone asks, I always say this is a good and weird tournament. We should have success as a team, but some of our studs are gonna get pushed and some of them are going to lose. We will be back next year for sure. Snyder

    IU vs Purdue

As a coach of someone who just committed to IU and has another being recruited there, I can say for sure the cache of being a 4-time state champ from Indiana and his relative youth is what is pulling kids towards IU. They see in him something they can aspire to be. I love Coach Ersland, but I think it's hard for some of our HS athletes to see themselves in him. They don't have the ability to think that far ahead. The stark difference in "fun" status between the two universities is another big thing that they've been siting. For better or worse, Purdue has a great academic reputation, but not so much for off-campus activity. Indiana has both going for it. As a Purdue grad myself, this pains me, but I think those are the reasons you're seeing so many Indiana wrestlers committing to IU. Ersland will be fine at Purdue, because he develops talent and will continue to nail down a few out of state guys each year. But Angel is placing on premium on keeping Indiana kids in Bloomington. We'll see if it pays off for them, but at the very least, he's going to make fans out of nearly every one in state because we all know the guys up and down the line-up.

  8. One of the Roncalli dads mentioned to me that East Central would probably go undefeated on Saturday; I will admit I didn't know much about them outside of the wrestlers that have participated at the NCSS. Also they had plenty of excitement from the wrestlers when one of their teammates were wrestling; it was fun to see them act as teammates and not individuals. Brownsburg just kept putting wrestlers on the mat that were impressive. I have followed them intensely the last 4 years so I know what type of talent they have lost to graduation, but the current team is as formidable as any team in the Midwest. They have a very daunting schedule, so they will have plenty of opportunities to flex their muscles/abilities. Roncalli potentially could have 7 State qualifiers between 106 - 152, and if they can continue to develop their upper weights come the EMD Holiday Classic / Team State they could make life difficult for any team. On Saturday they didn't lose at 106, 113, 126, 132, 145, and 152 -- I expect that to be the norm for the majority of their matches. Good day for Indiana High School wrestling!!

Here is mine... Owen Sego. Nothing would make me more happy than to see this kid make a deep run or win it all. At 170, he is a complete wild card. He has the experience and a proud angel looking down on him. That could be all that he needs!!!

  13. Joe no intentions... Was just giving Evan props. Jokingly talking about the rankings. I think Evan is better than some of those above him. No disrespect intended to you or anyone else kid on that list, but I think Evan is better than 16. You factor in it he might be the most respectable kid I've been around and i'm putting him #1.

I don't see any way that the hoosiers win this one. Purdue is pretty solid top to bottom and should get bonus points in several of their wins.

  18. Hi there. I am Dillon’s dad. Bryce is a tough kid. He actually injury defaulted Dillon out of ISWA state when they were 2nd yr novices. Dillon ended up placing 8th, And Bryce placed 5th, I think. That was the first time Dillon placed there. You registered on this website 6 hrs ago and immediately posted in this thread about this match. That is interesting to me. But yes, the score was 5-1 at Huntington. Like I said, Bryce is a tough kid. Best of luck.

  20. 170: Abel Verbeck (LOWL) over Cody Timmerman (MISH) (Dec 9-8) This match was an absolute barn burner! Verbeck was a state qualifier last year and Timmerman was a ticket rounder. Looking forward to this rematch at semi-state!

  23. When used as a verb, the word "retard" is appropriate and not offensive. See this article, which references major newspapers and publications which have used the word properly. https://grammarist.com/usage/retard/. I have not read the document which used the word here, so I won't comment on this particular usage; I'm just saying there is a perfectly appropriate and non-offensive way to use the word "retard". To suggest that the word must be banned in all forms is political correctness gone amok.

    Donate bananas?

In effort to procure some bananas, I thought i would post this relevant article on the Avant Gard Art piece of Duct Taped Banana to wall which sold for $120,000 this weekend. Unfortunately for the buyer, another artist thought the banana was a donation and ate the artwork. Honest mistake. A really crazy bananas story. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2019/12/09/banana-priced-120000-exhibit-art-basel-eaten/2628306001/

    Question about rankings??

So are we talking about ranking as a recruiting tool or determining who the best in the state is? If your talking recruiting tool then yes i agree. Once I got ranked I started getting colleges contact me and that was great. If we are talking about determining the best in the state. I stand firm they don't matter. Awesome for promoting your program, awesome for recruiting for colleges since we are a one class state. And TripleB knows I was a horrible wrestler so his assessment is prob accurate.

  27. Triple B-- I don't know you so I can't impugn your character like you did mine. I used a real word, with a real and definite meaning. I do not engage in our current looking-to-be-offended-cancel-culture. Our LIfe Skills students at PH are part of our program as managers. I would never use a word designed to demean a person with a disability. The word is a VERB. The horrible term you refer to is a slang term that I never use and have admonished my wrestlers and football players for using. If you wish to speak to me directly as opposed to attacking me in a public forum, my phone is 765-610-8150. Dave Cloud
