  1. It is my privilege to congratulate the men who have been named as Indiana's National Wrestling Coaches Association Head Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year. Head Coach of the Year Tony Currie of Adams Central High School has continued to build the great wrestling tradition for the Jets. Now in his 15th year of coaching at the school, first as a volunteer, then assistant and now head coach, Tony has continued to build Adams Central Wrestling. The Jets won the IHSWCA Team State Duals this past season. The team compiled a 23-3 record and claimed the team titles at both the IHSAA Sectional and Regional tournaments. Coach Curie is also a founding coach of the wrestling little league for youth wrestlers in his area. Assistant Coach of the Year Joe Somerville has been a member of the Jeffersonville Red Devils program for 15 years. Along with his duties as assistant coach at the high school, the History and English teacher is also the head coach for the Jeff Youth Club and serves as club treasurer. In addition, Joe is tournament director for the Jeff Holiday tournament and the Sectional and Regional. Jeffersonville had a freshman class of 25 wrestlers this past season and was able to field full Varsity, 2nd varsity and C-team squads. The Red Devils were IHSAA Sectional champions and Regional runners-up this past season. Congratulations to both of these men for the success they have brought to their programs and all they do to build our great sport! Dave Cloud-Indiana Representative NWCA

  3. Parker Reynolds made the Finals too as a 1st year schoolboy and was looking to be 1 of only 2 wrestlers (14U & below) in the finals to win back to back USAW Titles. It would have been his 3rd in 4 years. He fell just short losing in OT in the championship match to finish 2nd.

  4. AD's & Wrestling Coaches: Our school is now starting wrestling as a sport to offer to boys - very encouraging to see more opportunities for wrestling. But, we do not have a wrestling mat so are in need of a mat to help boys practice. Are there any schools out there with an old mat in a warehouse we could come get to help kids begin the sport? We are willing to drive to your school/warehouse to come pick it up. Thank you for any help you can provide as we seek to provide wrestling for athletes. Matt Hogan

    IHSWCA Proposals

This is our proposal year and here is what was in the IHSAA minutes from this week. Proposals from the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Representatives of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association – Vice President Greg Ratliff of Edgewood High School, Secretary Sam Riesen of East Noble High School, and Executive Director J.D. Minch – appeared before the Executive Committee to present the following rules proposals. Proposal 1: As long as a wrestler has weighed in at their allotted weight class as determined by the weight management system, it will be considered a qualifying weigh‐in. Proposal 2: Change the date of the two‐pound growth allowance from January 1st to December 25th. Proposal 3: To add girls wrestling as an IHSAA sport by the 2020‐21 season. No decisions were made but these proposals will be considered and voted upon at the April 29 Executive Committee meeting.

    Class of 2021

Brock Ellis : put him there because of all the Senior State Champs, Runnerups gone (160-170) . Figure he go a weight up or 2. Just looking at Donahue growth from 8th-9th. Figure he shot up to 220 next year . Laplace is dangerous also, maybe 195 ? Bates stays at 182 . That’s a good weight my opinion. Got State Champ Silas lurking at 195 & 220 to ? 106-113, where ever Cernus lands he’s hands down favorite over Cottey . Warren will have (Lee, Cooper, Rodgers, Dickens) to deal with . Stays at 145 I can see (Viduya) there as well.
