Bo get the Hodge Lewis MVW of NCAAs Foster most unlikely champ.

I am beginning to agree that a 3rd official should do the review at the NCAA. I know they won't do that in dual meets, but for conference and national tournaments, it should done that way. Very few calls are overturned. I think the referees that made the call have it in their head and aren't looking at it from a fresh perspective. JMO

Lewis was a junior world champ, but most wrestling fans didn’t know his name until this weekends. He ran through all the top guys in his bracket (Marinelli, Wick, Joseph) and earned the title. On a side note he only beat Cael McCormick 4-1. So in retrospect a decent showing by the Golden Knight and Yorktown grad.

Lewis just pulled a Joseph vs IMar on Joseph.

Worth noting Ashnault was lucky to get this extra medical year based on previous injuries cutting some previous seasons short. Glad he’s able to make the most of it.

At least they let it get decided by clear cut takedown in OT. I’d rather see it end like that than some iffy call/no-call at time runs out.

It is since he’s the projected Hodge winner too. But clearly not the match of the night.

McKenna has to get in clean or Yanni will make him pay.

Not bad for a guy who couldn't make the lineup last year

AC is similar to Garrett. We don't give a MVW award, but give a BAGUBA of the year, since BAGUBA involves more than just winning. It typically goes to the wrestler who advances the farthest in the tournament, but this year Macklin and Mosser shared it. Macklin placed while Mosser was eliminated Friday night, but Mosser had a better regular season and embodied the personality of a BAGUBA.

Overall thoughts: 1) Embarrassing that Nolf won that match. Absolutely outwrestled and Hilday was robbed. Nolf is out of the Hodge and it’s all Nickal at this point. 2) It didn’t make sense at the time and makes less sense today but they should’ve never pulled Parris’s redshirt. You could clearly see he needed a year to grow into that weight class. 3) Surprised by Lewis but maybe we shouldn’t be. Made a junior world team. Want to be elite? Make age-level world teams. Look at the guys who’ve done in on the world level. Lee, Fix, Yianni, Zahid, Hall, Steveson, etc. 4) Steveson should’ve never lost that match. I’m actually shocked he didn’t get it done. Got sloppy on one exchange so it’s his own fault. But I hate when guys like Cassar get rewarded with absolutely no offense. 5) I have a buddy who wrestled at Lowell and grew up around the Deans. So I’ve always rooted for them from afar. Good for Max Dean. As for Cornell, I think if I had a son who was being recruited right now. It would be Penn St #1 (and I dislike penn state) and Cornell #2. Those two programs always seem to get the most out of their guys. 6) Indiana as a state has a long way to go. 7) really excited for Fix-Suriano. Anyone else remember that insane marathon match they wrestled at who’s #1? Yianni might be my favorite wrestler in the entire NCAA. Just fun to watch. I think Erieyman (spelling) was the only guy in that weight class who can beat him. 9) A topic for another day but how many of these guys will take Olympic redshirts next year? A lot of these guys have had world level success. See #3 above. 10) Finals picks: Lee, Fix, Yianni, Ashnault, Nolf, Joseph, Zahid, Dean, Nickal, Cassar

As a diehard Ohio State fan, I really want Joey to win a national championship before he graduated, but also pretty bummed that it(if he even does win) it had to come at the expense of Nick. Wish they could both be national champions. That said, I wouldn’t count on Nick graduating without winning one.
