The face of Indiana University Wrestling this year. With the big changes this year, new coach, new facility, he has really been the steady man all year in the line up.I hope he gets a good draw in the tournament and stays out of the wrestle back side of the bracket.

  3. @Bigyusm and Jose Diaz also both run a great team on the rise in the Indiana Flash. I know they have a few trips plan and take a few studs in each weight class.

  5. New rule. If you tuck your sweats into your socks you start off with a 4 point advantage. If you tuck your hoody into you sweat pants its another 2 points. If you do both of those things you pretty much going to win anyway.

Had guys from all over Brownsburg, Ben Davis, West Vigo, Mooresville, Roncalli, Lafayette Harrison, Cathedral, Carmel, among others. Next week we got state champ Littell from Center Grove, make sure to make it out to the ‘burg for this one, 6pm. Come train with multiple state champions!

So I heard there may be a possibility that Brock will end up at IU? Has anyone else heard this? Huge pick up for IU if this is the case.

    Campbell sending 6

Little 3,500 student Campbell sending 6 to NCAAs. I’ve said it a ton of times. It is like no other college program that I’ve seen. Kolat is building a monster! Something that everyone should go see. I’m a huge fan!

    Impact freshman

All I know is that Brownsburg was first in the state in ISTEP testing (Standarized tests). They also had all schools in the corporation be rated an A, for like the 6th year in a row. Top notch schools.

  14. Josh Jones from Avon won Indy Nationals at 195 followed that up by winning cadet state at 195. Josh is a sophomore this year and is still a cadet. He’s young for a sophomore. Never wrestled at an academy yet. Looking to fix that. Looking forward to big things from him the next two seasons!

    Conferences Merging

Likely boils down to Title IX and the requirement of having the same # of men's and women's sports. Sports like wrestling often get chopped if there are not enough women's sports to offset.

  16. Indiana Outlaws are great, reach out to Bryan Bailey. He is a great guy with fair prices, and I can't forget to mention his teams are stacked more often than not.

  17. We used block weights for our tournament a few weeks ago. We put ALL the kids in 4 man brackets and everyone wrestled round robins so everyone got 3 matches. We were cleaned up and at home by 2pm.....

    Conferences Merging

I know Eastern Michigan is hurting financially and had to make a cut, albeit a silly one considering the low end cost of wrestling in terms of all sports. Hard for me to understand why Toledo, Bowling Green, and Western Michigan don't revive with all the talent in the Midwest. Ball State...come on boys Worthen Arena would be a great venue.

  20. I am looking for a good dual team to be on starting in April. I am a senior about to go off to college and I’m looking for some fun dual teams to be on this summer. I will be cleared to start wrestling the second weekend in April, I had surgery in early March. I am looking for a 182 or 195 spot I would be willing to wrestle either. Thanks Trizton Carson (317)490-0847

  21. I have no opinion on the job the Purdue coach is doing, but from a pure math/logic standpoint I am not enamored with your analysis. Wrestling to seed just means the seeding committee accurately assessed their ability, not that they had a good performance. The contra argument would be that their seeds were too low and the coach has the ability to impact that. With 7 of 10 wrestlers in the bottom half of the bracket wrestling to seed seems a minimum standard. Using a plus/minus analysis it looks like they actually wrestled to one spot below their overall seed. 125: +1 133: 0 141: 0 149: 0 157: 0 165: 0 174: -2 184: +1 195: -2 285: +1 Total: -1

  24. A major part of it is parents and the events. Name another sport where a kid will get 5 minutes of "playing time" over 3-8 hours? The way we have always done it can't be an excuse to change the format of our events. I know we have a lot of success with the weeknight events where another club comes and they match up on the fly. We have to sell the sport to not only the kids, but also the parents or they'll find something else for their kid to do.

  25. One of the biggest issues in wrestling is retention of athletes. Based on USAW statistics the retention rate in 2017 for Indiana was 53%. That means every year even we bring in 47% new wrestlers...at the same time we are losing that many. Indiana is actually doing well compared to the other states, but in most people's minds it is something that could use a vast improvement. Indiana has 8,000 USAW members and every year almost 4,000 of them are new! Think if we kept 75% and then still added 4,000 new members! You can view the stats on page 15 http://content.themat.com/2016-17annualreport.pdf Retaining kids...and parents is something that will grow the sport. There are many reasons kids/parents don't come back, one big one is the tournaments.

  28. What are the main issues we are trying to resolve in Indiana high school wrestling? Rules changes should be directed towards fixing those issues. Reducing FF by removing opportunities seems like it is contrary to growing the sport of wrestling.

  29. We found out about this during the recruiting process. Carson was about a day away from signing with Hofstra in the EIWA which has the second most ncaa bids behind the big ten. He took a last minute visit to Ohio, loved the school and the coaches. We loved the fact that it was fairly close. Throw in the fact that the MAC was about to become a power conference!!!! We were sold. Should be a great conference. I think it should be similar to the EIWA in overall strength.
