Asa got it done when it mattered the most... the battles between Ty and Asa were both awesome and gut wrenching as a parent. Those two were battle tested when it came time for the State Series and it shows with their results. Neither had any fear when we saw each other in the Dual, County, Conference, Sectional, Regional, Semi-State and State! @TeamGarcia and I would just smile at each other win or lose because there is no better way to get better than to see that type of competition week in and week out. Do I wish a couple of those red rings were blue, absolutely... but I am extremely proud of those two boys since seeing them battle it out when they were 7 or 8 in the CWA room, partners in MS and rivals in HS! Congrats to Asa and his family on an awesome HS Career!!! Now, we're gonna prepare to flip the script when it comes time for the NCAA's!!!

Miss those days bro, wish we could rewind time do it all over again going all the way back to MS days when it was not so hectic . Actually watched a few of the battles on huddle a couple days ago . 2015-16 was some of the best back and forth wrestling . Asa would win one, next weekend Ty win. They wrestled each other 6x that year, I believe that Ty won (4), Asa (2) . Round 1,2,3,4,5,6 Not going to lie that year I was worried, Ty coming off his Runner Up 106, I text you later that year in 2015 right before season. We’re going 106, I was thinking to myself maybe he’d say 113.... text ..... you said so are we. You said there can only be 1 State Champ coming out of Hendricks County at 106. I said damn it ! Laughed, then so be it . Lol. After they lose to each other they drop in the Rankings . I kept telling @ontherise219 i’d keep them where they started the year. Did he listen nope. Dropped them both cause they was beating the hell out of each other. I think he learned a lesson that year . Lol Good times & great memories. College match... ? Guess there can only be 1 NCAA Champ from Hendricks County to huh ?

He did reverse Nolf and he was wrestling up two weight classes, give the kid a break. It was not meant as a taunt, again he was just trying to have fun with the sport (talked to him personally). Also, as someone stated already, he shook hands and was not disrespectful at all.

Asa reminds me a lot of Cash Quiroga- never afraid of a challenge seeking out the best competition. 2 state champions on that list of losses and possibly the best to never win a state title in Indiana in Ty Mills. Fantastic career.

I want to honor Asa for a terrific career and wish him the best at IU. I was talking to family members and we were trying to figure out who all Asa lost to in high school. I believe he had 6 losses as Frosh, if I remember right his only loss was Viduya as a Sophomore (maybe I’m wrong), and he had 4 as a Junior (I know Rooks at least 1), and obviously 1 out of state this year. Can someone help me out with some of his losses in previous years?

  11. Tournament Videos are currently being uploaded ... may take most of the day. Free viewing. Thanks again to Southport for hosting, and their team and club support. It was a big undertaking. Great job! Thanks to all the Head and Assistant Coaches for supporting and promoting this event. The first year it had 291 wrestlers, last year it was up to 390, and this year the event had 485 Wrestlers. Thanks to all of the great wrestlers who showed up to compete. The level of wrestling was awesome!

Does asa have mor state titles than sectional titles? Not poking fun just wondering. If so that shows how wicked that sectional and regional are.

Do you really think this guy is going to tell his kids a story about how he was "ONLY down by 10" when he got pinned by Jason Nolf as if that will be his greatest accomplishment? Lol wow, I hope not. The fact of the matter is when you are in a wrestling match, taunting an oppenent is unnecessary, especially when you're losing...

I don't know about that. He's got a great story to tell his kids. He was only down 10 when he got pinned in the 3rd. Much better than Nolf's typical opponent. If you saw the handshake after the match, Todrank was very respectful.

    New State Format

Took a look at California's setup (http://www.cifstate.org/sports/wrestling/index) It's a 3-day tournament, not 4 (Wednesday is registration/workout day. Thursday is half-day, then full days on Friday/Saturday) It is a true double-elimination with full wrestlebacks to 3rd place There are 40 wrestlers per weight class State is divided into 10 Sections Number of qualifiers in each weight class is set for each section - and is the same for each weight class: Southern(9) Central(10) Sac-Joaquin(6) North Coast(3) Central Coast(3) San Diego(4) Northern(2) Los Angeles*(1) Oakland(1) San Francisco(1) Pairings for the weight classes will be done by the State Rules and Operation Committee and the state meet director (Brackets are SEEDED) Looks like the top 16 for each weight class are seeded then the rest are drawn into open spaces

  25. On the IHSAA Website in their yearbooks it gives a detail to each sports attendance and revenue. The last yearbook is the 2000-2001 season but here are some interesting numbers... 4th in Participation (Behind Football, Track and Baseball) 4th in Tournament Attendance (behind Football, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball) $162,000 in revenue for entire state tournament (to compare girls basketball was $192k with more than double the attendance) To echo XCard, I think the IHSAA values wrestling and the tournament but are less interested in making significant adjustments to the format that might only impact a small percentage of the wrestlers. How many 5th place finishers at state each year are truly in the top 4 but got a bad draw? Maybe a couple of kids each year? The IHSAA is not going to make a significant change to the tournament for a couple of kids each year.
