  1. NOTE: none of that info (other than team name) is required. If you win, I will only list Indianamat username. If there is no indianamat username, I may use first name (maybe last initial) so people can Identify if they have won. If there is only team name, I can only list team name, obviously. Any of the top 6 could win it. It is going to be a crazy team race. IHSAA STATE FINALS PREDICTIONS - Sheet1.pdf

  9. Information Here is a little side project I've been working on. I've done it in previous years with just some friends and family, but this year I decided to open it up to anyone. The idea is pretty simple. You're given a certain amount of "money" and you are then able to "buy" one wrestler in each weight class. Everything was based off of the Indiana mat brackets with rankings. The accuracy of the pricing is only as accurate as the rankings provided. The winner may receive a small prize, but no guarantees. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. (Especially if there are major mistakes and/or problems) Pricing: The pricing of wrestlers was determined by a Monte Carlo simulation of the entire tournament that was ran 1,000,000 times per weight class. The price is based on the average placement of the wrestler, causing some interesting outcomes. To be honest, this was probably overkill, but I enjoyed it. If people are interested, I can post more later about this simulation and elaborate a little more. LINK P.S. The form will close on Friday Night at exactly 6 PM

    Height of coaches

Okay, between rounds at Semi-State, I happened to look down and see Coach Peck standing beside Coach Tonte and the difference in height was a bit dramatic. Later, I happened to pass by Coach Tonte and noticed that he was pretty close to my height, not tall but not too terribly height-challenged either. Conclusion: Coach Peck is TALL. Sooooo who might be the tallest coach in the state? And the shortest? (I assume there are a lot of shorter ones as former lightweights since short kids tend to be drawn to wrestling over B.B.)

Busted!!!! I have been deep cover with the FBI for years. I have spent the better part of the last decade trying to figure out who each person is on this site, and looking for criminal activity! My co-agents @UncleJimmy and @TeamGarcia consider this a break in our case. We are all currently in Garcia's unmarked 1998 Caprice classic. With that said.... we are looking to apprehend these illegal gamblers, and take down their empire! Going down harder than El Chapo boys!!! ]

    Georgia State Finals

So, In 7A 1 in 4 wrestlers make the state finals In 6A 1 in 3.375 wrestlers make the state finals Why not just give everyone a participation metal? This is why being able to call yourself a State Champ in Indiana means something. It appears to me it is probably often harder to win a title in the smaller school division since there are probably hundreds of schools in the tournament instead of 54 or 32.

  18. By JEREMY HINES Thehines7@gmail.com The Man. The Myth. The Mullet. The Mustache. Outside of the famous Willie and Red’s smorgasbord (best fried chicken and prime rib in the area), senior wrestler Jake Combs is the biggest attraction in Hagerstown. He’s popular because he’s a phenomenal three-sport athlete, because he has a mullet and mustache that would make Billy Ray Cyrus jealous and because he has become the first Tiger wrestler since 2003 to advance to the state finals. “I can’t put it into words, honestly, what going to state means to me,” Combs said. “It’s something I’ve been dreaming about ever since I lost here last year. It just feels amazing.” Combs had a huge contention of fans Saturday at the New Castle semistate. When he won his ticket round matchup against Frankfort senior Ezekial VanDeventer, it seemed as if the whole gym erupted in applause. “Wrestling is unlike any sport in many ways but the family aspect that comes with it is truly humbling,” Hagerstown coach Anton Payne said. “I feel the entire TEC (Tri Eastern Conference), our sectional and regional teams were pulling for Jake today. The crowd from Hagerstown was huge but when Jake won there were hundreds, if not thousands of people screaming and jumping out of their seats.” Combs doesn’t have the typical wrestling story of athletes that are going to the state finals. He didn’t wrestle as a young kid. He didn’t wrestle in middle school. He didn’t even wrestle as a freshman or sophomore, despite coach Payne practically begging him every year to give it a try. Payne finally wore Combs down before his junior season. “Jake started wrestling for the first time 15 short months ago,” Payne said. “I tried my best to get this young man out since junior high, but it wasn’t until his junior year, in November that he said he would try a practice to see if he likes it.” Combs fell in love with wrestling. Early on it was evident that he was strong as an ox, but he didn’t have any technique to go along with that raw strength. As the season progressed, Combs continued to learn the sport and by tournament time, he was good enough to advance to semistate. That success created a hunger. Combs started working as hard as he could to learn more about wrestling. He went to open gyms in the summer. He traveled to Carmel and other places looking to soak in as much knowledge as possible. It paid off. “I told Jake that we would have to work hard,” Payne said. “I told him we would have to push through adversity. We would have to wrestle through pains. We would have to stay on the mat as much as possible in the off season. We would have to work on our explosiveness. We would have to gain more mat confidence and we would have to be 100 percent committed. Jake’s response was ‘let’s do it.’ “ This season Combs is 38-5 and was perhaps the surprise of the 182-pound class in the New Castle semistate. He knocked off Greenfield’s Scott Stanley by fall in the first period to advance to the ticket round. In the ticket round he dominated VanDeventer, pinning him 1:53. But Combs wasn’t done yet. In the next round he had the task of taking on No. 14-ranked J.D. Farrell of Fishers. Combs won that match 3-1 to advance to the semistate championship. Combs lost in the finals to Elwood’s No. 12-ranked Jalen Morgan 5-0. To Combs, wrestling is fun. That’s part of the reason he grew his world-class mullet and mustache – which some accredit to his quick rise to success in the sport. Combs isn’t sure which one gives him these special powers, though. “You know, I’m thinking it’s the mullet,” Combs said. “It’s newer. I’ve had the mustache for a while. But, you know what, it has matured a lot, so maybe it’s that, too. It might be both.” In Hagerstown they have made fan support T-shirts for Combs. The shirts just have an outline of a mullet and a mustache. Combs loves them. “Wrestling is such a serious sport and I’m just trying to bring a little flavor to it.” Friday Combs will get to showcase that flavor at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in front of the state’s most die-hard wrestling fans. He will take on Oak Hill’s No. 16-ranked Bradley Rosman in the first round. “Jake has accomplished what he said he would do last year after semistate,” Payne said. “But we are not satisfied yet.”

We left the old sections below to stop the mats from sticking to the floor. My AD is super supportive and my principal use to be the head coach!

  34. Don’t even need to look at what you put together. I’m sure you put a few hours putting this together. Congrats ! Well done. But from your recent post on your few days you been on here . It’s been all Cathedral. We get it, that’s fine . So let me guess what you worked so hard on . First of all you like thinking right now. Man it’s been 7-8 hours, only 2 Likes. About 600 views . Why not more ? Let’s dive in. Hmmmm... 4-5 Cathedral wrestlers in the Finals . No one lower than 3rd cause you don’t want to be casted away in the Cathedral “click” it be Highlighted in Green or Gold cause they #1 in your bias eyes then everyone else. Wow we’re shocked . Lets go on ... Team Race - man Team Race the Top 6 will be so close anyone can win it . It’s so crazy ! Right . Why lie to us ? Don’t even have to look since you picked all Cathedral and probably winning they must leading big time, just give Cathedral the team trophy, then so the Team race won’t even be close. Then also then there’s everyone else right . OMG ... Were so shocked again . Let me predict something else that’s going to happen . Again by me posting this “I’ll make you famous” like most of these posters on here . You get 5 mins of it . My “opinion” on here is such a big deal, you might get upset, who knows, lots of sensitive people on here. Maybe try to throw me under the bus. Say something about Avon, my kids cause you can’t handle my verbal assault . Ouch... not the first time nor... will it be the last. So tell us again why should we look again, when we already know it’s just Cathedral Fan ? Ok I’m Done . The Notorious PS.... we’ll see if this person can take a joke

  37. All Suite Folk - Bankers Life is on high alert this year as they’ve had major problems w suite overcrowding, ticket transfers over the glass, theft of some security walkie talkies last year, etc. I just got a pretty intense warning email from the head of Pacers/Bankers saying anyone caught passing tickets will be ejected and the suite ticket confiscated. Further, for the first time, they are making our competing wrestlers have tickets for suite access. And, they are stamping hands and punching tickets at the suite entrance for the first time ever. Long story short, suite access is on thin ice for this event. Please be vigilant this year with managing the amount of people in your suite. Either 20 or 24 people depending on size. Lets show the Pacers that we are a worthy crowd at the suite level and for the whole venue in general. Good luck to all!
