The Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky will be the place to be this Friday through Sunday. The center is hosting two large events, the Senior World Team Trials and the Central Regionals Qualifier for the16U and Junior National Championships, held in Fargo, North Dakota. This preview will feature potential Indiana matchups at Central Regionals, based on the pre-registration weights and names provided.

 

#4 – 157: Silas Foster vs Silas Stits

These two are very familiar with each other as this is a rematch of the ISWA Freestyle State Finals, where Foster won by a 12-2 technical superiority. Prior to their meeting in Avon, Foster placed 7^th at the IHSAA State Finals, where he is now up from 150 pounds. Stits placed 3^rd in the 157-pound weight class. Two college programs are going to receive these studs, as Foster is continuing his education and athletic career at Southeast Community College in Nebraska and Stits to Kent State.

 

#3 – 285: James Hartleroad vs Maximus Forrester

The battle of IHSAA semi-finalists! Hartleroad placed 3^rd at the 2024 IHSAA State Championships, with a wild Friday night win over Clark of Crown Point. He was out this year due to transfer rules (which have now been updated). Max Forrester continued the Brownsburg heavyweight dominance, placing 3^rd this season. Though Hartleroad has more accolades in Greco (16U Fargo Champion and U.S. U20 7^th), these two met up at the ISWA Folkstyle State Finals. Hartleroad won 4-1 in OT.

 

#2 – 106: Traevon Ducking vs Connor Maddox

Our featured 16U match, Traevon Ducking and Connor Maddox had met twice this past high school season. Ducking holds the helm of 2 matches to 0 but never count Maddox out. Just a few weeks ago, Maddox placed 6^th at the U17 Freestyle World Team Trials at 48 kilograms (105.8 pounds). Ducking wrestled up at 51 kilograms (112.4 pounds). In their last meeting at the IHSAA State Finals, Ducking won by an 11-4 decision.

 

#1 – 120: Case Bell vs Peyton Schoettle

How about a State Finals rematch? Case Bell and Peyton Schoettle, whom have both won a state title, have the opportunity to meet again! Bell won 8-3 in the 113-pound State Finals match. If you recall, Schoettle won by a last second takedown and nearfall over freshman stud, Noel Verduzco, in the semi-finals. Verduzco is registered at 16U for this tournament.

Any updates as to how our Indiana reps did here. I tried watching some, but that complex was standing room only WITH no ac. 

Had the good aroma of a hard fought wrestling room and was about the same temp plus 10°

From The Fort Hammers side, we had a fun weekend.

 

Here are some highlights for our team of towel boys. (Speaking of which. Next big event, you can rent their fanning services for $5 a match or $15 for all day)

 

Carter Fielden went on a run in the freestyle side of things in a 45 man bracket placing 2nd. Beating a Indiana 5th placer, Minnesota 2nd placer D1 commit, and a Michigan 1st placer D1 commit.  Carter has now qualified for Fargo in Greco and Freestyle.

Rex Moore winning a 37-30 Greco match for 3rd place.

Carl Fielden placing 3rd.

Joey Warner going 3-2 wrestling some tough kids.

Braxtyn Bauer getting some good Greco wins and wrestling tough for a first-year 16U.

Michael Oberlin realizing he is not a 150-pounder.

Jaxten DeWeese battling.

Eddie Kessen getting 4th against a super tough field.

Aubrey Troutner getting 2nd in 16U.

Tony Lopshire throwing multiple people sometimes landing on his own head.

Isaac Brown placing 5th to punch his ticket to Fargo. 

Jaxton Litchfield is placing 4th in the Greco side of things and battling hard in the freestyle side of things.

Wyatt Hoppes (Live Night King) - battling as always going 3-2.

 

Midwest Regional Training Center trained but we get the opportunity to train with them also.
Remington Wilson 4th place.
Walker Wilson 3rd place.

Side note: speaking of landing on head. Watched a heavy match that one fella kept going for headlock and 5 times he went to high and ended up on the mat belly down. Needless to say, he lost
