Fort Wayne Semi-State All-Stars

Recommended Posts

I’m not really familiar with the wrestling or its history from the northeast corner beyond stories of Bellmont or early to mid-2010s Yorktown. Would someone be willing to fill me in on some names or give me some all stars from the area or the semi-state? I’m intrigued to know more about Fort Wayne area wrestling.

1980-1985 Delta High School won five state titles in a row. '87 and '88 Bellmont won back to back titles.   '90 Muncie Southside won. Bellmont won again in '94.

I'll name a few guys from the City of Fort Wayne who are the True Legends of Fort Wayne Wrestling. These places indicate high school only. If we counted college Wagner and Vaughn are the clear 1 and 2.

1. Anton Talamentes Fort Wayne Dwenger 1998 2X State Champion 1X Runner-up.

2 Oliver Richmond FW Elmhurst 1985 2X State Champion

3.Elbert Starks FW Snider 1985  State Champion, Runner-up, Fourth Place.

4.Gralan Early FW Northside  2003 State Champion, Runner-up, Fourth Place.

5.Jermaine Brooks FW Northrop 1991 State Champion, third, fifth

6.James Starks FW Northrop 1990 State Champion, Runner-up

7.Greg Wagner FW Snider 2001 State Champion 1x Runner-up* 3X DI All-American

8.Jason Woodson FW Snider 2002 State Champion 1x Runner-up

- Jackson Bratcher from Eastbrook wasn't the best from our SS but he was still really good. (SQ, 3rd, 4th)

-Chad Barrett from Eastern is also underrated, he went SQ, 6th, and 3rd.

- Fletcher Miller from Kokomo went (2,2 and a 2x fargo AA) with A LOT of wins.

Seeing all those names from the 80s and 90s are awesome. Muncie South had some great wrestlers, and they are still some great guys. A couple years ago a group of them came up to Decatur to play in our Bellmont golf outing. It was a blast seeing those guys.

Randy Baker (Bellmont) is always overlooked - 3rd, 3rd, 6th, 7th

Senior year, 2002, had 3 wins over the state champ (Jason Woodson)

He beat several state champs during his career. 4x Mishawaka champ too.

Also adding John Sheets from Bellmont to the list (1, 3, 3, 3).

Of course I know. Rico and I went to college together and I graduated high school the same year as his older brother Tino( who never won state but was still a very good wrestler).  John Sewell is like family. Little known fact: He is the uncle of James Starks State Champ from Northrop and my guy "Weak".

1998 145  state champ Anthony Lapsley of FW Snider! Started wrestling late, as in going out for the team as a freshman! Anthony would finish 45-1 with his only loss being avenged in the state finals under three lights vs The legend Kevin Carr!

"The Recipe" would go on a terror pinning his first 3 opponents on his way to majoring Carr 11-2!

He pinned the eventual 2x STATE CHAMP the Legendary Fred Joseph in the qtrs , then pinned 2x Placer Boots of EMD! Carr would go on to win state in 99 as well as being a 4x placer.

Lapsley and me become great friends and team mates later on in life when we were both pro fighters, under the Team Wolf Pack banner founded by the man himself GARY iron Bear MYERS! Laps would become King of the Cage Welterweight World champ as well as becoming a UFC veteran!.

Here's a old fight of his vs current UFC Top 20 stand out GMIII AKA. Gerald Meetschaert, with The Recipe dismantling him with the quickness!! He's currently coaching his son who's wrestling in HS and still trains himself, and Larry will told me that Veazy gave him all he wanted and some the last time they worked together😂

I'm not sure that these guys went through Fort Wayne (New Castle), but love seeing them out there.

Opps, missed the correction further up...
