Super 32

Recommended Posts

Big weekend for our Indiana guys traveling down to North Carolina. I will try and give details for some big matches. Indiana started off well with some early wins from our little guys. Jendreas dropped a tough match to the number 9 seed which was brutal. Also a tough matchup for Gunner Henry taking on ranked Camden Mcdaniel from Ohio. Hockaday could also see Fargo champ Jayden Raney in the round of 32.

Day 1 High School Results:

We have 4 wrestlers still alive for Day 2: 1 in the winner's side and 3 in the consolation side:

160: Sam Goin (winner's side)

120: Ashton Jackson (consols)

182: Orlando Cruz (consols)

220: Devin Kendrex (consols)

Sam Goin is coming off of a 6th seed upset over Christopher Earnest, and will wrestle #16 Maximus Magayna for his spot in the semis and a top 8 finish. If he wins, he will likely see #3 Nicco Ruiz. After a 7-5 loss to #2 Joe Sealey at the Elite 8 Duals, I'm confident in Goin's ability to challenge Ruiz for a spot in the finals.

Ashton Jackson wrestled really tough today, dropping only a 7-3 match to #2 Luke Lilledahl. Tomorrow he will start the day against Porter Matecki, who is coming off of a big upset against #6 Gauge Botero in UTB. Winning that match puts Ashton in the bloodround, in which he will face against the loser of #1 Jax Forrest and #11 Jordyn Raney (so likely Raney because Forrest is crazy good). Indiana has had good luck against the Raney's this tournament, and Jordyn specifically owns an Indiana loss to Kyrel Leavell this off season, so this is a doable match for Ashton that would most certainly put Ashton in the top 20 (which I would love to see LaPorte in the national rankings).

#9 Orlando Cruz took a hard loss in the round of 16 to #12 Justin Rademacher, but will look to place in the top 8 tomorrow. His first match tomorrow will be against Ohio's Wyatt Ferguson, who Orlando is seeded to beat. After that, Orlando will face off in the bloodround against the loser of #8 Tim McDonnell and #17 Cole Han-Lindemyer. The seeds have Orlando as the underdog, but against Han-Lindemyer, he would be the favorite per the Flo national rankings, so it is likely that Orlando breaks through into the top 8.

Devin Kendrex took out a seeded opponent in Ilias Cholakis before losing a 7-0 bout to #5 and number one seed Hayden Walters. Kendrex wrestled through the consolations to make it to day 2, where he will see Georgia's Anthony Lowe, followed by most likely Kansas's Bronx Wood in the bloodround. Kendrex has wrestled great this off season and most definitely has the tools to break through into the top 8 at this tournament.

Sammy Goin wins his quarters match 4-2 over Max Magayna who is  nationally ranked and a 2x Iowa champ!

That's a really good win. I've seen Max for many years at Indiana's Iron Sharpens Iron camp and have always been impressed with him.
