East Chicago Semi-State P4P Top 10

Thought I'd be fun to do an East Chicago P4P ranking. I worked on this with @igotcaught to eliminate some the bias that inevitably comes when making these types of rankings.

Feel free to debate!

Reason I have Logan at #1 is because I always think back to his matches with Lemley. If Illinois doesn't shutdown, Logan is a 2x State champ already. Also Sergio is now #1 in the nation. Logan was in every match with him. I put Will Clark in there because the kid is a beast. Fargo AA is tough! Honestly the kid might deserve to go higher on the list. If he wasn't in football he might have won IHPO...8/9/10 were hard to decide, I dropped DeMarco to 10 because Goodwin and Jendreas had better state performances last year. Jendreas placed higher than Goodwin so he gets the 8 spot.  Aidan Torres goes above Solomey because of head to head.

I definitely think there's an argument for Frazier over Goin, especially seeing how his state runner-up finish was a 3-2 loss to Sergio Lemley. However, I put a little more weight in terms of these rankings on their more recent head-to-head, where Frazier lost 10-2. Additionally, Goin has not lost to an Indiana wrestler since his sophomore year at state, while Frazier suffered a loss at IHPO 2021 to Elijah Anthony, and Goin had a 9-5 match with the current #4 in the country at this year's Fargo, so we have a 10-2 loss to the #1 versus a 9-5 loss to the #4. It's still a tough pick, but I personally think Goin earns the top spot here. Will Clark is definitely a stud and a Fargo All-American placement is really impressive, but with only one 5th place to his name in the state series, it's hard for me to put him over Jendreas. I think there's an argument for Clark to be above Goodwin, but it's tricky for me to place someone that took J Conway into OT in the Honorable Mentions. Lastly, I did a little bit of looking around and could not find the head-to-head of Torres and Solomey. What tournament was this at?

Hmm. We didn't see this when making the list. The result is definitely a little dated, but I might have been willing to put Torres over Solomey had I seen this result. I do still feel like Solomey's overall state placements have been better though, and with a 10-0 tech fall over Anthony Bahl (who in the same tournament won a criteria match over Solomey) it's still pretty tricky to place them. I think that Bahl, Solomey, and Torres could all be switched around in someway.

Making this with @TysonNisley was not easy. But I just don’t see how the 3 responses all decided to take Bahl completely out of the Top 10. He has won head to head vs Ashton Jackson, Cole Solomey, and somewhere around 3 or 4-1 against demarco. The way he dominated his way to the finals last season at 132 (tech, pin, major) at one of the most loaded weight class last year just to fall short against Zeke Seltzer (who he took down!). I can confidently say Bahl would be a 3x placer if he could of cracked the lineup freshman year but CP had Goin at 106, Frazier at 113, Bettich at 120, Roberson at 126, Mendez at 132, etc.

Clinton Shepard is not on the list either, He just beat Jendreas 5-1

EDIT: Just realized that he is only in 8th Grade nevermind!

138 should have a good battle at 138 with Cruz, Griffin Van Tichelt, and Christian Washington. 120 multiple kids fighting for spot. 106 is not a lock as Rianne Murphy there now also

Looks like there gonna be studs again this year, but im exited for the semi state this year to see our kingsmen try to chase down the bulldogs. We bring a few studs to the table though. Jendreas vs Bennett, Harper vs Frazier, Denton vs Hawkins, Steenbeke vs Goin

Yes, EC Semi State should be pretty good this year. We will see how weight classes shake out as season begins.
