Y2CJ41
On the heals of Marshall Fishback's run... here is a list of the wrestlers who went to state as a senior only and brought back the gold. Curious if others know how the guys did the previous year before their title. It's impressive the jumps some made in one year. The Hefty Lefty
IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.. Robert Miller qualified for State as a sophomore at 140. His Jr. year rumor was he was out because he delivered a beating off the mat. Matt Deters as a soph. lost ticket round to Jeremy Bolt and as a Jr. lost ticket to Michael Bailey, who was State runner-up that year. Will Hill as a junior I think was the victim of a New Castle semi-state death draw, losing to that year's state champ and 4x placer Dan Pleak. BrodyHardcastle
I was ranked 8th going into team state my senior year and lost a competitive match to a freshman named Silas Allred and got majored by Stock in my last match of the day, my coaches got on my a$$ saying I should’ve never lost to that kid. He goes on to win a state title a couple months later…I felt a little better after watching that. blueandgold
He wasn't a senior, but Brayden Littell only competed in the state tournament once as a junior and won it. He later didn't compete his senior year due to injury.
Ironbear
I can think of 2 champions and a runner up in 1975. 126lbs Mike Holmes and 177lbs Don Prichard. They also had Chuck Evans who placed 2nd in his first appearance as seniors for Muncie Southside and they won the team title that year. All 3 in their first appearance at state. 2 have passed and Mike Holmes is doing great.

I did not remember that. So Ester puts out following-season state champ Requejo in the ticket round in 1991 and #1-ranked Wilson of Warsaw in the ticket round in 1992. Who kept beating him at regional to create those matches?!?
