blueandgold
I decided to once again seed this year's IHSAA State Finals based on the set criteria I believe is used for sectionals to see how they would correlate with our state rankings and the IHSAA's random draw formula. Those who argue against the IHSAA often cite the desire for wrestlebacks or seeds to determine a true top eight at each weight class. So, I decided to seed this year's 106 weight class and here is what I got: 2022 IHSAA Wrestling State Finals Indianapolis, Indiana Gainbridge Fieldhouse Seeding Criteria 1. Head-to-Head 2. Common Opponents 3. Quality wins 4. Winning percentage 5. Record wins 6. Past placement 106 Pounds 1. The top eight ranked kids all qualified, while eight of the top nine all placed, and three of the top four all finished top three. Maybe seeding or wrestlebacks aren't necessary after all. ontherise219
AlaskanMountie
Most people are a proponent for wrestle backs at semi state more so than state, leaving your example null and void. The argument, at its core, is that there are few weight classes that have the best 16 wrestlers due to the lack of WB’s at semi state. piscis1956
bbulldog152
Wrestle backs will happen before seeding by a long shot. Also looking at this I'm curious how you have came up with 3 through 7 based off of Criteria. I might be missing something but I would have 3 Rioux 4 Jendreas 5 Bailey 6 May 7 Schaeffer... I believe past placement is higher than winning percentage and wins. 17 hours ago, blueandgold said: I decided to once again seed this year's IHSAA State Finals based on the set criteria I believe is used for sectionals to see how they would correlate with our state rankings and the IHSAA's random draw formula. Y2CJ41
Rioux would have been over Jendreas due to common opponent in Hockaday. He was 1-3 against him while Jendreas was 0-1.

bbulldog152
If they were to ever seed I believe the prior round placement should come into play. The 1-4 seed should be semi-state champs 5-8 seed would be semi-state runner ups and so one. You could also just seed the semi-state champs and match the runner up's based off of their champions for example the runner up to the #1 seed would face the #3 seed while the runner up to the #2 seed faces the #4 and vise versa and the rest would work it's self out. This way the top semi-state champions would be separated and the best runner ups wouldn't be matched up in the quarters with the best champions. But as stated earlier the IHSAA would give us full wrestle backs way before having us seed it. base

A- 1st Seed Semi-State B- 2nd Seed Semi-State C- 3rd Seed semi-State D- 4th Seed semi-state 1-4 placements First round match-ups A1 vs. D4 C2 vs. B3 D1 vs. A4 B2 vs. C3 -------- C1 vs. B4 A2 vs. D3 B1 vs. C4 D2 vs. C3 However if we are talking about things we wish would happen here is the order it would happen 1. Honestly I know people probably won't like to hear this but I could see this being the order the IHSAA would make changes if these things ever hypothetically do change. I agree that these changes would never happen any time soon.
Cmoney125
As long as class wrestling is a pipe dream, i'm good. However, if you're going to determine a team state champion in the individual tournament, wrestlebacks will change the outcome of the team placements with advancement points. Qualifying for state shouldn't put you in an one and done situation off rip Friday night. Getting rid of a dual team state champion should have came with full wrestlebacks at the state tournament.
