Southern Shuffle

A few of our former guys wrestled in this today. 

Alex Cottey is out after 2 losses

1st round draw was against 3x State and 1X runner up Drake Ayala. 
Ayala with a tf(3:57) win 

Then falls in conso round via tf to Jayden Carson

 

Matt Lee- also out. 
lost  3-0 to 2x Tx state champ Tyler Brennan 

won conso of 16 #1 but then falls 

3-2 in conso #2 to teammate and 4x Michigan state champ Alex Facundo

 

Joe Lee- came in as the 5 seed 

 Rd 32 beat 2x Tn state champ Bennett Jackson 10-5

Rd 16 beat Charlie Darracott who was a 3x GA state champ 8-6

loses to 4 seed and 1x State winner Chase Saldate. 
 

on deck for him is AJ Kovacs. A NY state and runner up as well as Conn state champ. Also 2019 Flo Nats champ.

Thanks for the information here. 
But what a-watered down event? From the past.  Much like Midlands. It’s only all about seeding for March.

So true...not a single guy ranked top 4 in the country stayed in the event

A lot of this happened for two reasons...
1. When Penn St. accepted the invite to the Collegiate Duals, the Southern Scuffle was out, as a team event.  Their starters were never on the schedule for the Scuffle this year.  It was known well in advance they would send backups.
2.  Roughly a week before the event, OK State chose not to send their starters due to Covid.  I'm not sure I understand the logic because they sent backups who would then come back and train with the starters.  But that decision was made by Coach Smith.  

Those 2 situations very much weakened this year's event.
