navy80
I am new to this but can 5th graders wrestle for their middle school team? Can they wrestle conference tournaments? and most importantly, can they wrestle at Middle School State? Paycheck141
MattM
Middle School State has its own set of rules. Here are the MS State duals criteria which includes being in 6th-8th grade for both the individual and dual MS State events. But as much as I wish it was more streamlined the regular MS season is the wild west. I know of a few schools that let 5th grades wrestled since their grade is part of the middle school umbrella (usually 5/6 intermediate school) rather than still with the elementary. So I’d say your the only criteria there would be does the 5th grade fall within those parameters and will the AD/principal OK them being part of the program. As far as a MS Conference goes it likely comes down to the collective ADs decision on how that should go. Best to get a coach or AD to check with the conference AD group early rather than a decision coming in the last minute. InjuredReserve
I believe Ihswca changed the rules last year to allow 5th graders at middle school state. They changed the weight classes and now start a 65 instead of 75. Our middle school is 5-8th grade. We wrestle our 5th graders everywhere but Mt Vernon tournament. navy80
