The bracket is set, and though an abundance of caution only allows for 8 symbolic wrestlers to be invited to the IHSAA post season wrestling tournament, wrestling fans from across the state are hyped to see who will prevail.

The 1 seed, just clearing transfer complications, after seemingly moving in and out of every school district in the state, has been granted eligibility as this combatant definitely did not move into a district to help athletics: COVID-19! No wrestler has taken out as many opponents as COVID-19 ever before, so this 1 seed is the biggest favorite, wait, it's nobody's favorite, but it is the strongest opponent in the bracket, and it is looking to get its first IHSAA state title in just its first year on the scene.

The 2 seed, having its best year in history since traveling outside its birthplace of the Normandy region of France, Forfeit. Never before has Forfeit had more wins in a season; Forfeit has been advancing far into brackets that previously saw Forfeit going 0-2 year in and year out. A breakout season that could end with an IHSAA state title.

The 3 seed, though some have speculated that he has a common opponent with the 1 seed, his coaches have declined to argue for the top seed, but many believe he has beaten a wrestler who beat a wrestler who beat COVID-19, which solidifies him as a dangerous opponent that no one wants to see in the early rounds. Jesse Mendez looks to pick up his third and most impressive IHSAA state title this year, against all odds and against only the few that have survived to the postseason.

Hiding a grin and hoping to sneak its way into the finals, Masks. Previously, only a broken nose prompted Masks’ appearance in the state finals, and even so everyone knew a closed headlock was coming but could not stop it. Now Masks are everywhere, on everyone’s mind, and not showing any signs of slowing through the entire tournament. Can this 4 seed put the state on its shoulders and win the championship?

Exposed Noses, a mainstay of the tournament through the years, has battled through huge adversity this year to gain the 5 seed. In any other year, Exposed Noses would be a given at this state tournament, but this year, it snuck past health inspectors, administrators, families, and friends to be at every qualifier for the tournament despite so much effort and scouting from opposing coaches.

Gamestop Stocks come in as the 6th seed, though relatively unknown through most of the season, this wrestler has really pulled off some major upsets, and is holding strong through the toughest situations. Will this competitor be able to hold out and win late in regulation or overtime? Time will tell.

The 7 seed was all too common a presence at the lower levels of the team state series in decades past, but now this wrestler has asserted itself as a state tournament powerhouse. Empty Seats take the 7 seed. Last year and many before, empty seats would often make a Friday night appearance from an overzealous high school thinking all 2000 citizens of their town were attending, but now Empty Seats are an automatic qualifier and looking to bust the bracket.

Rounding out the tournament, just happy to be here, knowing it’s a lot to ask, realizing there is no mandate to advance in the bracket: Social Distancing. This is Social Distancing's first appearance in the IHSAA state tournament series, though it is a familiar top-of-the-face this season at all marquee events. Can this spunky young wrestler make a run?

Winners will be announced when the brackets for regionals are officially released, which is probably Monday or something, I'm not really sure.
