Alternative to "Wrestlebacks" at SemiState

From IHSAA.org about the track state finals:

Advancement from State Meet Trials to Finals
     1.   110 and 100 Hurdles, 100; 200
           a.   3 heats with 9
           b.   1st, 2nd from each heat plus next 3 best times.

Now imagine that they just used the top 3 from each of the 3 heats.  The track coaches would have a huge issue with who was in each heat.  And the 4th best runner could easily be eliminated before the finals in a faster heat.  The IHSAA has put in place a system to better allow the 9 best runners to advance.

The difference is that track (and swimming) have a way to compare the different heats (time) but wrestling does not.  That's what the 5th place match would be compared to.  Bobby Cox should understand this comparison from his own coaching background.

This may be true, but many of the phone calls are asking for clarification about unclear rules and guidelines that Faulkens has created himself.  He tells one sectional to do one thing, which is not what the rules say, and he allows waivers, etc... It seems many of these issues are caused by Faulkens...

Again we try to blame Faulkens for the coaches and coaches association's faults. In order to have the IHSAA serve us better the coaches need to step up and not be a pain in the butt to the IHSAA. It seems like we want to blame Faulkens for the reason coaches mess up instead of the actual coaches. Do you blame the ref for calling you pinned or do you look at why you were on your back in the first place? We need this attitude towards getting things accomplished within the IHSAA.

I do not place all blame on Faulkens, but the confusion over weight issues lies square on his shoulders as does the confusion over seeding at sectional because he has said and done different things.

Has our sport had coaches who have broken rules and done things wrong, yes, and that has hurt us. We lost team state because of coaches and their decisions.  But to put everything on the coaches is just like putting everything on Faulkens, it is wrong.

We need to find a way to work together for what is best of the sport.  A unified coaches voice that is strong and powerful is a big step.
