Carson Brewer at Ohio is doing well not exactly sure of his record but he's doing well in his red shirt!

Damnit, you're killing me!  I was reading the thread on the HS board and it made me remember I left the Ohio guys off.  I came back to fix it and you already outed me!  ha ha   I had written them down but missed putting them on the spreadsheet.  I'm sure I probably missed someone else, so I'll apologize now.  I'll post an updated list in a moment.

A few guys really stand out to me from that list in terms of exceeding expectations when you see their records on paper in black and white.

1. I know he's been doing it for a couple years, but I never would have expected Cael McCormick to get as good as he has. If felt like he had such a small frame and potentially limited offense. But that dude gets into offensive fireworks shows against people. So fun to watch.

2. Dylan Lydy just keeps impressing. Where's the ceiling? He doesn't throttle people, but he somehow just gets incrementally better again and again and again. He's one I never would have pegged as an All-American candidate/favorite.

3. Starting with his Al Smith run his junior year of high school, I kept hearing how Thomas Penola was such a hard worker and so eager to learn and try things. A true gym rat/mat rat. You know those guys will just keep following an upward trajectory. But to see how he keeps improving as he's moving up in weight classes and now to see what he's doing this year up against much bigger men and really solid competition? He's got a real shot to go from 170-lb unknown junior in high school to redshirt freshman heavyweight NCAA qualifier. Definitely a cool, cool story.

Good call on those three.  Neither McCormick nor Penola have a "Quality Win" per Wrestlestat, but they have been competitive.  Cael lost by decision to both Kennedy Monday and Evan Wick, and also had a 2-0 loss to Cameron Amine of Michigan.  I would consider those Quality Losses.

Penola jumped from 184 to 197 to start this year and then jumped up to 285 in late November.  That'sa helluva jump to make and he's done in very well.  Again, no quality wins here, but he has 2 losses to Cassioppi, a loss to Kollin Moore and Tanner Hall.  I'm not sure he'll reach the level of Mason Parris, but I'd definitely say the future is bright, especially if his body can adjust to the higher weight class.

Wait till Silas is on this list dumpin boys!

Did Penn State recruit him?  I know they have Michael Beard waiting in the wings, but didn't know if he garnered much interest from them.

Penola drops back to 197 next after Brunner graduates and Pokorney steps into the lineup
