A quick reminder that Penn State and Arizona meet up in a dual Friday December 14 on ESPN2 at 5:00 Central time.  It's a chance to watch Nick Lee and see a marquee matchup at 174 between Mark Hall and Zahid Valencia.  Set your DVR if you can't catch it live!

Lots of action from Indiana collegians today at The Cleveland Open, including 3 Champs and a match between brothers!  Here we go:

@133 is where the action began...
IU's Paul Konrath (down from 141 earlier in the season) finished in 2nd Place.  He met Garrett Pepple in the semifinal and advanced with a 3-2 win.  He had a fall and a TF in the early rounds and lost the Final to Michigan's Joey Silva 6-5 TB2.  Silva was a 3X Florida State Champ.
On the other side of the bracket IU's Kyle Luigs won is first two matches by fall before dropping a 12-6 dec. to Silva.  Luigs took 3rd Place as Pepple MFF'd the 3rd/4th Place match.

@149 IU's Graham Rooks took home the Title with a major dec. and 3 straight decisions.

@157 IU's Diego Lemley had a tough day losing two straight

@165 University of Findlay's Hunter Reed dropped two in a row

@174 Jake Covaciu won 3 straight by fall before dropping the Final 6-5 to Michigan State's Layne Malczewski.

@197 Michigan's Andrew Davison won the Title with a fall or major decision in every match except one.  That one, was against younger brother, Northwestern's Lucas Davison 8-3 in the quarterfinals.  Lucas then fell in the consolations to former Michigan State Champ Brandon Whitman and DNP.  It's not the only time the brothers have matched up and I envision probably several more scraps at the Davison household growing up.  But it's a shame to have to see them wrestle against each other and to be paired so closely on the same side of the bracket.

@285 Michigan's Mason Parris landed in the Top Spot in dominating fashion, with 5 straight wins consisting of a Major, a Fall, another Major, another Fall and a Tech Fall for the Title.

Good day for the Knights. Competed in arguably the toughest non-D1 tournament in the nation and took 11th out of 39 teams (all D2).

Brandon James took first and defeated nationally ranked #3 Airik Furseth (Parkside) #6 Darek Huff (Adams St.), and #9 Danny Swann (Lindenwood).

Noah Warren took fourth and defeated nationally ranked #3 Josh Wimer (Findlay), #4 Isaiah Kemper (McKendree) and #12 Caden Moore (Northern).

And Jack Servies took 5th and defeated nationally ranked #6 Damon Greenwald (Seton Hill), #11 Nathan Vandemeer (Findlay), #12 Jordan Gundrum (Upper Iowa).

Thank you for posting the results.  I saw the Midwest Classic last night but hadn't had a chance to dig into it yet.  Here are some results for Indiana guys at other schools.....

@125 Blake Glogouski (Lake Erie College) won three straight then MFF'd the semifinals and consolations to finish in 6th Place.  Hope he's okay and it is nothing serious.
@125 DJ Smith (Indy) went 1-2 on the day

@ 133 Brandon James (see previous post) was the Champ and is 15-2 on the year for Marian University.

@141 Forrest Glogouski (Lake Erie College) won 3 straight before falling in the semifinals and consolation semifinals before MFF to 6th Place.

@149 Isaiah Kemper (McKendree) finished 5th and is 21-6 on the year.

@165 Kyle Jolas (Lindenwood) went 2-2 and DNP

@174 Cayden Whitaker (Indy) took 3rd Place and is 11-2 on the year.

@285 Dylan Falkenberg (Indy) was the Champ and is 9-2 on the year

As always, sorry to anyone who I may have missed.

Garrett Pepple took out Kelan McKenna yesterday.  McKenna is ranked #1 in Division 2.  McKenna took 3rd last year.  Pepple beat him 2-0.

That's a good win.  My question is, will Konrath pass Pepple for the starting spot at 133?  Looking forward to seeing how that develops.

Found some more results from the UNI Open on 12/8.

@149 Graham Rooks (IU) went 3-2 and finished in 6th Place.  I believe he was wrestling 157 earlier in the year, so it looks like he stepped down in weight.  If he can maintain that weight, that will likely be better for him.

@157 Brayton Lee (Minnesota) went 3-2 and finished in 5th Place.  He had a TF and a Major before dropping a 6-0 decision to David Carr of Iowa St.  He lost a 7-6 dec. in the consolation semifinals before securing 5th with a Major.

College wrestling heats back up with some major D1 events including The Midlands, South Beach Duals and Southern Scuffle.

The Midlands and South Beach Duals are two-day events and begin Saturday 12/29.

The Midlands
@125 Drew Hildebrandt (Central Mich) is the 9-seed and will face Skyler Petry of Minnesota.

@133 An interesting non-Indiana note: Former Ohio State Buckeye Nathan Tomasello entered and is the 1-seed.  Don't see college grads enter college tournaments, but the Midlands is an "Open"

@141 Former IN State Champ Nathan Boston (Campbell) is the 9-seed and will face Josh Breeding of Princeton.
@141 Kyle Todrank (Buffalo) and Alec White (Purdue) are unseeded.  Todrank faces Marshall Keller of Princeton.  White drew a bye and should face 7-seed Ryan Prater.

@149 Graham Rooks (IU - unattached) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He will likely face top seed Matthew Kolodzik of Princeton in his first match.
@149 Tristan Sellmer (IU) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He'll face 11-seed Khristia Olivas of Fresno State
@149 Brayton Lee (Minnesota - unattached) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He'll face 10-seed Cole Martin of Wisconsin.
@149 - Sammy Sasso is the 16-seed and Jacori Teemer is unseeded.  Both drew byes and will face each other in their first match.  Not IN related, but both have had bouts with Brayton Lee in the past year or two.

@157 Kasper McIntosh (Minnesota - unattached) is unseeded and will face 9-seed Quincy Monday of Princeton.

@165 Brad Laughlin (Army) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He will likely face 5-seed Anthony Valencia (Arizona St - unattached)

@174 Ben Harvey (Army) drew a bye and will face Nathan Tausch of Cal Poly.  His 2nd match could be against 12-seed Aaron Brooks.  Brooks a former Cadet World Champ and Junior World Silver Medalist delayed entry to college (Penn State) and is training at the Olympic Training Center before enrolling next year.  He could be a tough draw for Harvey.

@184 Jacob Gray (Central Mich) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He'll face Niko Cappello of Maryland
@184 Thomas Penola (Purdue - unattached) is unattached and drew a bye.  He will face 6-seed Mason Reinhardt of Wisconsin.

@197 David Eli (Purdue) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He'll face Andrew Salemme of Wisconsin.
@197 Andrew Davison (Michigan) is the 5-seed and drew a bye. He'll face Andrew Labrie of Brown in his first match.
@197 Lucas Davison (Northwestern - unattached) is the 6-seed and drew a bye.  He'll face Landon Pelham of Central Michigan.
@197 Bobby Steveson (Minnesota) is unseeded and drew a bye.  He'll face 7-seed Brandon Whitman of North Carolina - unattached

@285 Mason Parris (Michigan - unattached) is the 6-seed and drew a bye.  He'll face Terrese Aaron of Northern Illinois - unattached.  He'll likely face 11-seed Tony Cassioppi of Iowa - unattached.  Parris lost to Cassioppi at either Fargo or Super 32.

My apologies if I missed anyone.

South Beach Duals
Indiana and Purdue are at the Super Duals in South Beach (tough place to be this time of year!)

IU starts Saturday at 11 am (Eastern, I assume) against North Carolina.  Purdue faces Utah Valley (rematch?) at the same time.

Jose Diaz also at Midlands and has Sebastian Rivera I think.

Good catch.  His TW profile isn't linked and I just skipped right past him.  And you are correct, he is unseeded, drew a bye and will face 2-seed Rivera in his first match.

A few IN guys doing well in the Midlands.  They wrestle through the quarter-finals tonight.  Pick up the rest of the event tomorrow.

D. Hildebrandt, B. Lee, both of the Davison brothers, and M. Parris are all in quarter-finals which will start in a little bit.   Some others former IN guys are still alive in the wrestle-backs.
