Eastern Michigan has a lot of sports problems.   A few years ago ,  HBO real sports did a special on their athletics.   It focused on football on how perennially bad they were.    I saw in 2015, they only averaged attendance of 4,897 for football.   There solution was to bring in high priced coaches, and to try to up the perks for the football players.  Things like upgrade the facilities, have the team spend the night in hotels  before home games, things like that.       Eastern Michigan is a commuter college and has a lot of working people going to school who don't give a  crap about athletics.  But Eastern Michigan has a $1000 athletic charge to students to fund their athletic program.   Most of the students weren't happy about it.  Their athletics are the most highly subsized in the Mac.  Article said 80% of its subsidized by the school.   Not surprised they made the cuts, but looks like football is safe.   Note they cut Softball and women's tennis also along with the other mens sports. 

Also appears the school is also in bad financial shape.
