Fort Wayne or New Haven SS?

Recommended Posts

Fort Wayne is what most use. New Haven High School is the "host" of the event. The host has changed hands a few times in the past 15 years so it is much easier to call it the Fort Wayne Semi-State. That way people aren't trying to figure out where New Haven, Woodlan, or any other area school is that hosts the event.

New Haven also hosts the cross country semi-state in Fort Wayne (at IPFW) and it's usually called the New Haven Semi-State. We'll keep that in mind going forward, and if most know it as Fort Wayne, that's probably what we'll go with.

By the way, very well run semi-state. Kudos to all involved today.

eHEW HAVEN! Has its own mayor and own community. When some one steps up. in the summit city, and takes the responsibility of running the show , we will refer to it as the Fart Wayne Semi state!

What does the Mayor of New Haven have to do with the hosting of the IHSAA Wrestling Semi-State, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum; located at 4000 Parnell Avenue, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The School Corporation, is the East Allen County Schools, and the Administration Office, is located on Green Street, in New Haven, Indiana; and so is the New Haven High School. The community's Governmental Administration, has no direct control or link to the School Corporation. In the City Of Fort Wayne Corporation's boundaries, it is the same situation. The Public School Corporation is the Fort Wayne Community Schools, and the Mayor (the Honorable Tom Henry, and City Council) have no administrative authority over the school corporation. The school corporation is a separate and own administrative entity.

The school that takes on the responsibility of organizing the event should be honored by having their name in the title.  New Haven gets help from all over the place, but in the end they're the ones moving mats, setting up scores tables, putting scales in the weigh-in rooms, and tearing things down when it's over.  Who cares if the host school changes here and there,  give credit where credit is due!

Maybe New Haven should build a facility like the colisum to hold this event.

I don’t hear F.H. Reitz complaining. They host the Evansville SS.

Apparently, you have missed something. According to the IHSAA, New Haven High School, is shown and listed as the HOST SCHOOL. And while I'm at it, many years back, little K - through - 12, Adams Central High School, in Monroe, Indiana, which is in Adams County, and not Allen County, was the host school for several years. I can remember their Athletic Director of those times, Art Habegger, scurrying around the Coliseum arena floor, during the set up and tear down, using his two way portable transceiver, answering questions, and solving issues immediately as they had occurred. And yes, other area schools helped out by providing additional manual labor. Also, there was AC Computer, Phil Arnold, providing the administration of the tournament software for the whole day. This was way prior to the Track Wrestling tournament programming.

I don't believe New Haven High School went it alone in this 2018 Semi-State venture. Especially, since Woodlan High School provided at least two of the competition mats. When Snider or North Side hosted this meet in years past, other Summit Athletic Conference Schools, assisted as needed; Wayne, Bishop Dwenger, etc.
