maligned
Here are the Team State Classification data for 2018. An excel file is attached as well for your own use if you like. (A point of clarification: "state enroll rank" means among all schools participating in sports, so don't be thrown off by looking at the last school in a group and thinking we put too many in a class.) decbell1
Adrian, you probably need to recalculate these, considering Arlington, Broad Ripple, and Northwest are all closing this year.
decbell1
You also still have Turkey Run and Rockville in as separate schools. Those two should really be combined together and listed as Heritage Parke, along with the scoring for both teams, which is what we basically did for Muncie Central if I am not mistaken. WadeDuPont
If the situation from Arlington, Broad Ripple, Northwest, Turkey Run & Rockville changes team from class to class, the bottom teams of a class should move down. Makes no sense to move the top of 2A up to increase the already ridiculous disparity of 3,944 students from Carmel to Columbia City even larger. I don't know how to fix it, but damn that is a lot of difference in Class 3A from top to bottom. While 2A sits at 507 from top to bottom and 1A at a 384 student difference. decbell1
I am just thinking out loud here again, and maybe we need to consult someone within IPS, but it seems logical to bring Arsenal Tech into the fold, assuming that kids from the three schools closing are going to filter into that program, considering Attucks didn't have a team (I think) and neither did Washington. What about Northwest? I know at one time they did have a team...a decent program back in the day..but of course I'm old.

Thanks for bringing up this and the Parke Heritage situation. Does anyone know with certainty that all 3 of those schools' students are all going to be at Tech and no where else? Also, I don't know all of the details with Parke Heritage: will it be a strict 2 into 1 situation or will some students be redistricted to other schools nearby? If we have clear answers on these, it's obviously not too late to make it right. No one's going to complain about moving down a class if that happens. maligned
Ok, I figured out a few answers myself, but it raises more questions: --Parke Heritage is straight forward...2 consolidated into 1. Two tiny 1A schools are becoming one mid-sized 1A school. --IPS is becoming "full-choice", meaning kids can decide where to go (I know many of you must know all of this). This means the 1,700 kids from Broad Ripple, Arlington, and Northwest will decide for themselves where they want to attend. I need to do some more digging about what all of this means about expected attendance numbers for the 4 remaining IPS schools and if Crispus Attucks and Shortridge will have teams again. WadeDuPont
I think for sure you have to add the numbers to Tech, cant imagine if they add 1700 students they will not have enough wrestlers. Heck, even if only half go to Tech that brings them close to 3000.
maligned
Just now, WadeDuPont said: I think for sure you have to add the numbers to Tech, cant imagine if they add 1700 students they will not have enough wrestlers. Heck, even if only half go to Tech that brings them close to 3000. Probably true, but also probably true that Washington also would add at least one wrestler and also add enough in attendance to move up from 1A to 2A. And it's also probable that at least one of the other IPS schools will add a team that will receive some of the wrestlers from current teams. I'm going to get some concrete answers on how IPS athletics are being handled before we make any final decisions on this. WadeDuPont
maligned
For now, we'll consolidate Turkey Run and Rockville into one Parke Heritage score. But we'll hold off on making decisions about where to put IPS schools until I can get some concrete answers. The result, for now, is that the only change is to move Alexandria down from 2A to 1A so that there are still 102 schools in 1A, but now only 101 in 2A. bwoodjc89
With all of these special situations, why don’t you just use the new enrollment numbers for each school and reclassify? WadeDuPont

littlevito
I think the classifications you posted are what should stay. It's this year's teams earning the points. Even though two schools are consolidating, and others closing. It doesn't change the fact of what they were during the qualification process. Other wise you open up a variety of argument issues for teams.

It's very straight forward that all of the Rockville and Turkey Run kids are going to one school and one school only for next year. There are a lot of uncertainties with the IPS situations though. As I said in other posts: kids CHOOSE where they want to go so we have no concrete numbers for enrollment and we also don't know if one of the other remaining IPS schools (shortridge and crispus attucks) are relaunching wrestling programs that will attract a bunch of the wrestlers. Let me do some digging to find out the facts. Bruce, there's no way in good conscience anyone will vote to reclassify the IPS schools on our best guesses. It will need to be somewhere reasonably concrete.

I know you're hoping something could work out in your favor, but I encourage you not to get your hopes too high because there's no scenario where JC moves down: Scenario 1: We just eliminate the IPS schools and pretend their kids aren't ending up somewhere. Columbia City moves down and that's it. Scenario 2: We eliminate the 3 IPS schools and bring Tech and Washington back in as 3A and 2A schools. Columbia City moves down and that's it. Scenario 3: We eliminate the 3 IPS schools and bring Tech, Washington, and a theoretical third team from Shortridge or Crispus Attucks in. Columbia City moves down and possibly Manchester to 1A and that's it.
bwoodjc89
Re scenario 3: Why are we making up teams that don’t exist? In addition to 3 IPS schools closing there is the consolidation to consider too. That is 4 schools total. 301 schools remain, how are they divided then? Edited February 2, 2018 by bwoodjc89
maligned
I already factored that in earlier in the thread. We're at 101-101-102 right now with Parke Heritage in at 1A in place of the two previous schools. Alexandria is down to 1A. We're not going to make up schools--I'm just explaining the only possible scenarios. Scenario 1 above, it becomes 101-99-101 and we move Columbia City down to make it 100-100-101. In Scenario 2, we're at 102-100-101 and we move Columbia City down to make it 101-101-101. In Scenario 3 where we find out a 3rd IPS wrestling program is coming back, it's only possible to be a small-ish school, and we end up with either 101-102-101 (where Manchester would move down) or 101-101-102.
