New Uniforms

I never wrestled in mma long shorts but I was sponsored for a few fights and wore them to fight in..I preferred the compression fight shorts better like the ones in my avatar.. they just felt better..I do actually have a pair of my mma long shorts put away for nostalgia purposes..I fought on Showtimes  last ever EliteXc card that was held at Hammonds Horseshoe casino and I think they are pretty sweet because they were EliteXc appointed and had sponsors  on them.. the long shorts actually can be a advantage in mma because you can grab your own shorts to negate a submission... they also worked better for the advertisement purposes..anyways, enough about that, if I was in school I probably wear the compression tops and bottoms as well.

I realize this is probably due to multiple state titles, but participation at the 2 Brownsburg Middle Schools is up considerably.  This year the 2 piece was "marketed" to all the boys and the wrestling team at one of the middle schools is double it's size compared to last year.

I think it makes a huge difference, especially to middle-schoolers that are good athletes but did not grow up in the sport...and the idea of the singlet is pretty intimidating at that age.  There's a whole lot of newbies in the room now and I have to think the 2 piece uniform plays some part in their decision.

Compound's fight shorts are a little shorter and fit better (stretch material incorporated) than the other fight shorts I have seen.  I still think singlets will eventually be a thing of the past and I think it will be for the better.  Nobody would wear a singlet for any reason other than wrestling.  Eventually I think kids will ask "why would I do that when I can wear shorts and shirt"?  Most of our bigger kids wear the shorts and shirts because it hides everything better.

Exactly, singlets are FOR wrestling. Sometimes we confuse change with progress. JMO

In this sense, this change is progress. It’s progress in trying to up the participation and widening the comfort zone. Whether it’s liked or not, times are changing and in order to keep up, things such as the two-piece are introduced in order to progress our sport. Just my 2 cents

Have seen many track athletes wear singlets with no issue. Maybe it's because it's their choice? Like already stated, have seen many 2 piece i really liked that fit well. Others, usually fight shorts, fit too loose and didn't look as good.  Have seen hands get caught a bit but nothing major or worse than at practice. I wonder if the ability to choose is as big a factor as the singlet itself?  Heck, down the road the trend may be a preference for singles? My opinion, let the teams choose and hopefully that helps grow the sport.

In track there’s an actual competitive advantage to wearing a speed suit making you more aerodynamic. I don’t see any competitive advantage with a singlet vs shirt and fight shorts.

That's debatable, otherwise all would wear them. If there was an advantage it would be very hard to measure unlike swim suits.  But I agree don't see any competitive advantage vs fight shorts. Nor did I say I was against fight shorts.

Look at this idiot.  Wore shorts over a singlet and tights?  I wish his coach had called him a whimp for not just wearing a singlet and ran him out of the sport.

Change is hard for most at first, especially in this state. (Think, we almost have alcohol sales on Sundays coming) I was unsure how I would like the two piece uniforms. Our team does not have any, and I've only seen a handful of teams this season that is sporting them. After one season, there really isn't going to be enough data to see how it effects participation in the sport. But if this is something that is going to benefit the sport than I completely support it. It's not 1970 anymore, times have changed, kids have been raised differently (not a good thing), and the fan base is constantly changing. Whether a kid is wrestling in shorts, or a singlet...it's still wrestling.

I think the data should include how many state champions, regional champions, and sectional champions wore shorts vs singlets.  If there are more that wore singlets, clearly they are the tougher kids and the others should be ran off - you are wasting your time with kids who aren't champions.  Winning is all that matters.  We have way too many of these kids in our sport who are more comfortable wearing shorts and shirts than a bathing suit from the 1890s.  We try to end the season with only the necessary kids so we have 1 in each weight class.

It states “shorts designed for wrestling” which would include the fight shorts
