IndianaMudflap
The topic of great coaching comes up all year long, and we certainly have some great coaches here in Indiana. I thought I'd do a little research to see just how big of an advantage it is to have one of the top coaches in your corner on Friday night. I used the "Team History" section of IndianaMat, and cross referenced it with the IndianaMat "Coaches" pages for each school. While some of the data is incomplete, it can give us a pretty good picture of how our top coaches have fared on Friday night, and begin to answer the question of Leroy Vega or Darrick Snyder? Brad Harper or Bob Harmon? Tom Miller or Greg Schaefer? etc. Also will help us answer how coaches stack up historically. Below were coaches who stuck out to me. Feel free to comment below and add your favorite head coach... Sean McGinley- Cathedral 48-9 on Friday Night (.842 win pct) and 5 state champions in 10 seasons of data Dan Gelarden- Munster 12-3 on Friday Night (.800 win pct.) and 2 state champions in 12 seasons Brett Crousore- Lawrence North 31-8 on Friday Night (.795 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 6 seasons of data Nick Petrov- Hanover Central 19-5 on Friday Night (.792 win pct) and 7 state champions in 10 seasons David Maldonado- Merrillville 48-17 on Friday Night (.738 win pct.) and 9 state champions in 13 seasons Darrick Snyder- Brownsburg/Mishawaka 43-18 on Friday Night (.705 win pct.) and 9 state champions in 12 seasons Jim Tonte- Warren Central/Perry Meridian 65-28 on Friday Night (.699 win pct.) and 12 state champions in 18 seasons Chris Cooper- Columbus East 9-4 on Friday Night (.692 win pct.) and 0 state champions in 13 seasons Don Patton- Delta 33-15 on Friday Night (.688 win pct.) and 13 state champions in 9 seasons of data Bill Kelly- East Chicago Central 17-10 on Friday Night (.630 win pct.) and 3 state champions in 11 seasons Brian Seltzer- LN/Elkhart Memorial 25-15 on Friday Night (.625 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 17 seasons Bobby Howard- Lowell 8-5 on Friday Night (.615 win pct.) and 4 state champions in 5 seasons Greg Schaefer- Evansville Mater Dei 25-16 on Friday Night (.610 win pct.) and 2 state champions in 8 seasons Brent Faurote- Bellmont 67-49 on Friday Night (.578 win pct.) and 7 state champions in 27 seasons Bill Flatt- SB Riley 12-9 on Friday Night (.571 win pct.) and 1 state champion in 17 seasons Bob Hasseman- Franklin 37-28 on Friday Night (.569 win pct.) and 4 state champions in 30 seasons Ed Pendoski- Carmel/Portage 33-25 on Friday Night (.569 win pct.) and 5 state champions in 12 seasons Mike Goebel- Evansville Mater Dei 102-81 on Friday Night (.557 win pct.) and 22 state champions in 29 seasons Tony Abbott- Muncie Southside 17-14 on Friday Night (.548 win pct.) and 1 state champion in 17 seasons Trent McCormick- Yorktown 50-42 on Friday Night (.543 win pct.) and 3 state champions in 28 seasons Steve Balash- Hobart 32-28 on Friday Night (.533 win pct.) and 8 state champions in 30 seasons Robert Emerick- Lake Central 25-22 on Friday Night (.532 win pct.) and 6 state champions in 27 seasons T. MOWrestler
This may be a matter of semantics, but I don't think it matters that much who you have "in your corner" on Friday night. It DOES matter who you've had in your room ALL SEASON. The staff for each of these successful coaches and how they use them is equally important too. So I'd change the question to If you could send your kid to wrestle in any room in the state, where would it be? throw45, BreakfastClub, WrestleMan and 1 other

Joker
How about David Maldonado-Merrillville 48-17 on Friday night (.738 win pct.) and 9 state champions in 13 seasons. dangood1 and IndianaMudflap
dangood1
^ wow, that's pretty outstanding. hard to not go with him. Guess it just depends on the kid. Some need or like a coach to be loud and pumping them up, some don't. I agree, its about the week of prep leading up.
IndianaMudflap
Anyone have complete data sets for Sean McGinley, Jim Tonte, or Mike Goebel? IndianaMat only has incomplete data for these 3, but they have very impressive Friday night marks in the incomplete data available. MD92
Hard to say for the old time coaches because they only used to place top 6. I know MD had tons of kids that won Friday night, but lost saturday morning and failed to place in the top 6. So looking at the data you wouldn't know if they won or lost it would only show that they qualified.

FCFIGHTER170
How many seasons? I'll add him to the list35 years...950+ wins, 2nd in national history in wins along with 30+ sectional titles and 2-runner teams that in 96 that had 8 to state 6 placers and if Bubba Dickerson (returnin HW state champ that pinneday everybody at state in under 10 minutes iirc) tragedy didn't happen it would've been a pretty safe to say 9 to state with a 2xer...He also had longest dual meet streak in state history @106 in a row before being broken Mater Dei with over 130...NC didn't lose for nearly 4years in a dual...NC at the moment isn't the power house it once was in the 90s and early 2000s but it's nothing a revamped Feeder program can't fix ...and Coach Martin will be a great Head Coach being Pecks protoge once he passes the torch... I admire all coaches that lead with character, gratitude and respect..wHich breeds success and also prepares young ppl for life after wrestling..I would take a 100 jv kids that work hard and are good ppl over a million lazy gifted Athletes that take things for granted..Peck is a great mentor to myself even though I don't coach @nc currently, I'll always go to bat for him...BUT I WILL NOT EVER make the worst mistake of my life again, by letting him demonstrate the Legs that mortally wounded back that has been dying since that fateful SemiState eve in 02'...R.I.P my lower Lumbar, Never Forget Edited February 15, 2017 by FCFIGHTER170 Coach Peck
