VintageGhost
With all the drama going on, what are some crazy parent stories without using names. I'll start. When i coached football I had a parent run out onto the field going nuts on his son. Nothing physical. After he was done he went out to his sons car and flattened all the tires and pulled out all the spark plug wires. I remember asking the kid if he needed anything. He said no coach ill fix all the wires and drive the car to the gas station and air up the tires. I then asked him if it was worth it, With a big smile he said yes. busstogate
While coaching middle school wrestling, I witnessed a mom come out of the bleachers and onto the mat to free her apple blossom from the headlock he was in. The ref and another coach intercepted her and the ref gave her a heave-ho from the gym.
Ahawkeye
This was 20 something years ago... I had the mother of the opponent I just pinned come down from the stands and chew me out for wrestling her son too hard and rough. She kept shoving her fist under my chin trying to get at my throught. This was in Tenn. and the kids coaches were about ten feet away from her just watching the whole thing happen, I didn't know they were his coaches at the time. I kept telling her that I was taught to keep wrestling as hard as I could for as long as I could and if her son couldn't keep up it wasn't my fault. She stormed off and one of the kid's coaches came up and appologized, he said he was sorry about that and she does that everytime the kid got beat. I just looked at the guy and was like "OK???" None of my coaches were around at the time because there were six mats going at the time and all the mats had one of my team-mates on one. I thought I was going to have to keep her from coming at me for a minute but I didn't retaliate. CRAZY stuff sometimes! On another note I sometimes wonder if my wife will be one of the crazy ones, probably not to that extent but she sure gets worked up when our boys are on the mat. Pops
I knew a parent who drove his son two hours one way to club practice twice during the week. This trips were then followed up by a private lesson least once every weekend and this went on for years. Funny thing word is this parent doesn't regret one minute of it
McWrastlePants
I once had a mom scream at her son that if he did not get up from the bottom, then he was not eating that night. The Dad was equally nuts and was kicked out of a tournament for yelling "cut his throat" and "rip his head off"
grappleapple
It seems "Finish Him" is a new catch phrase for some parents. I had flash backs to Mortal Combat on the Sega. FCFIGHTER170 and loscoz
grecoref
I had a mom come out on the mat at Folkstyle State a few years ago at Ben Davis. I think her child was in the Novice age group. Her child lost on a takedown just prior to the buzzer. She came out on the mat pointed at me and yelled "F-you! F-you! F-you!" except she did not abbreviate the F. The ISWA Security Officer came over to the mat and said "I heard her but now I don't see her." I informed him she was the nice lady standing behind the scorer's table giving us the finger. He escorted her to the front door and she let him know what she thought of him too. This was on Saturday and he told her if she set foot on the property within the next 48 hours she was going to jail for trespassing. I would rather deal with some of the more excitable high school coaches in the state than crazy parents. I know what to expect from the coaches. I have no idea what the parents are going to do. rdrodd1, horseofadifferentcolor, BreakfastClub and 1 other
mathewsz7
At New Castle Semi-State a few years back, ticket round match, a kid gets pinned and mom comes running down the stairs, trys to jump the barricade and trips then lip skids across the mat, jumps up & acts like that didn't just happen, then screams at the ref for calling the fall against her kid. Quite comical... grappleapple
gogoplata89
A few years back, a pretty good kid from an east side Indianapolis school was pinned in the ticket round at New Castle. His mom promptly ran to the mat and was kicked out immediately. Coach Peck
About thirty years ago a referee has just called a pin on a heavyweight (not from NC) who had made a mistake and went to his back. The Official and the kids get up as the Official all of a sudden bear hugged and lifted by the heavyweight who was pinned. The Official did know what was going on and, of course, was immediatley concerned. before He knew it he had spun around and set back to his feet. He saw what was happening as the heavyweight turned back around just in time to bear hug his own father who was running onto the mat to go after the Official. Thiings got settled down and later the Official thanked the wrestler. grappleapple
Bulldog89
My step dad witnessed a father trip down the stairs leading from the upper deck at the State Tourney last year at Bankers after his son got beat on a very questionable call. If you have been there, that is a long way down. He was running down the stairs and about 3/4 of the way down caught a foot and rolled the rest of the way down the stairs. Could not have felt very good.

UncleJimmy
It's like a train wreck. I can't quit rewinding and watching it. You see something new each time. Did the kid try a duck under on ref trying to break it up at the 12 second mark or did he trip? Wow..just wow. Love the close-up of Henry slowly backpedaling like "nope..this ain't my mat/weighclass"! grecoref
Story number 2.... I moved to Indiana from Ohio in May of 1996. In the spring of 1997 I was asked to give the annual freestyle rules clinic to the ISWA Membership. At the time, clubs that hosted a tournament were required to have a referee attend the rules clinic and a pairier attend the pairing clinic. In those days we had a lot more referees and pairers so the clinics were very well attended. About a week or two after I gave the clinic I go referee a local club tournament. I was officiating a Cadet bout when the match ended in a fall. The mom of the losing wrestler marched to the scorer's table and informed me that I called the fall too quickly. She added very proudly that she attended the clinic and they brought in some big shot from Ohio to go over the rules. She told me the big shot from Ohio said that a fall in the Cadet age group was 3 seconds. She went on to say that had I attended the clinic I would have known that and got the call right. I tried to explain that there is no level of wrestling where there is a 3 second fall other than professional wrestling. She wasn't having any of it. I finally asked her if I looked vaguely familiar to her. She still didn't make the connection.
