Miracle up soon for a shot at 3rd. 2nd and 3rd place finishers get money and consideration from USA wrestling, and are considered to be National team members, so this is huge for Miracle.

Miracle up now against Burkett. Both have competed at a high level today.

Alo losing to Beltz, who Miracle took care of earlier.. 1st TD for Miracle, leads 2-0.

Beltz beats Alo 13-4.

Humphrey injury defaults out of consis. Wonder if he will also hang em up for good after today.

TD for Burkett, who is Sara Hildebrandt's best friend. According to the always informative Tim Creason, Burkett attended the Al Smith this past year with Sara.

Miracle leads 4-3. Think I confused them earlier. At any rate, Miracle leads 4-3, with 2:40 left in 2nd period

Miracle opening up on Burkett...leads 8-3. Kayla has been such a beast today. SO CLOSE to beating Ragan. 10-5 now. She wins 10-5 and will face Beltz for 3rd place. What a job by Miracle.

Zillmer pins Sideshow Bob Jordan Holm, multiple time World Team member. A lot of disappointment today for some of the USA's most experienced wrestlers

Miracle looks a little off in losing to Beltz to finish 4th. Wonder if she was dinged up.

At any rate....

Mat 2

Campbell up 1-0 on Ragan to start 2nd period

Mat 3

Patrick Smith leads Perkins to start the 2nd...we are mere moments from our first Olympic team member

66kg Patrick Smith is the champ

58kg Kelsey Campbell is the winner, just as she was in 2012.

Mat 2

Molinaro the defensive wiz vs. Pico the wunderkind....passivity warning on Molinaro. Scoreless thru 45 secs

Mat 3

Rau and Williams should be a good one

Holy crap...Caylor Williams screams out loud as he lifts and pins Rau. Simply unbelievable. Watch this guy in Rio. Caylor Williams is your 98 kg champ in Greco

Molinaro hit with another passivity, doesn't score on the shot clock, Pico leads 1-0

Pico gets another point with a pushout from the front headlock..2-0. Pico looking very polished thus far

Sorry guys, I had a brainfart....no champs yet. This is all best of 3. Very sorry for the mistake.

HUGE lift and throw by Molinaro. Originally called a 4 pointer, Pico challenges and it's changed to a two pointer. 2-2, Molinaro has criteria currently. Molinaro DEEP o0n a single, Pico somehow counters and flips Molinaro and gets the win 4-2. Worldclass move by Pico.

Provisor and Clark up on Mat 2 at 85kg....this should be a doozie.

Mensah up 2-0 on Roberts quickly. Mensah has been as impressive as any woman today.

Provisor dinged for passivity, now in par terre. Clark looks for the lift

Mensah up 4-0, looking very much like a medal contender today

Clodgo gets a point from Pirozhkova not scoring after being on the shot clock. Pirozhkova wins 3-1.

Thielke somehow fights off a lift and ends up on top of Hafizov...challenge thrown and rejected. Thielke ends the match with a toss right on Hafizov's head. Looked dangerous as hell. Thielke your emphatic winner.

Dlagnev and Rey up...should be another good one.

Rey leads 1-0 to start the 2nd. Rey heavy on Tervel's head, Dlagnev pushes through Rey's hands, gets a single leg TD. leads 2-1

A little under 2 minutes to go. Rey is on the shot clock after passivity warnings. Rey working the head again...no score. Dlagnev leads 3-1. Tervel starting to dictate the pace and the spacing. Dlagnev wins 3-1

Campbell and Ragan up again. A Campbell win sends her to Rio

Kelsey Campbell wins match #2 and is now a 2X Olympian. Campbell weeps in victory, Ragan weeps in defeat

Molinaro and Pico getting ready to do battle again.

Just informed that Sam Hazewinkel has withdrawn out of tomorrow's competition

Pico comes out with club-like blows to the head. Some seriously heavy hands by the phenom

Pico appears to be peaking. Quick takedown for Pico, with an acrobatic flourish at the end. Molinaro shows he isn't going anywhere with a blast double to tie it up. These guys are getting after it.

30 seconds left in the period. Good lateral movement for Molinaro. Pico snaps Molinaro's head, but has nothing to follow up. 2-2 at the break. Back to the action, Pico gets warned for his heavy hands. Pico deep on a single, Molinaro counters and nearly pins Pico on the edge of the mat. 4-2. Lots of passivity from Molinaro gets him on a shotclock. Pico gets the point, runs out of time. Molinaro wins 4-3....we will have a third and deciding match in 30 or so minutes

Mr. Excitement, Caylor Williams up again vs. the experienced and dangerous Joe Rau on mat 3

Ravaughn Perkins and Patrick Smith up on mat 2. Perkins needs a win to stave off elimination.

Both Greco matches scoreless through nearly a minute. Smith gets a stepout point against Perkins, leads 1-0

Passivity forces Perkins into par terre. Really struggling to get his offense going against Smith. Perkins fights him off, back to neutral. 1-0 at the break

Rau also down in par terre. Williams looking for a lift and a big throw. Gets 2 on a nice lift. 2-0 Wiliams, heading into the 2nd period

Perkins ties it up 2-2, under a minute left

Rau pays him back with a lift of his own, leads 3-2 with 75 seconds left

Perkins wins by criteria, should be a barn-burner in their 3rd match.

Rau opens up a 5-2 lead. looks like we're heading for another deciding match

Roberts and Mensah up again at 69kg. Mensah leads 1-0

Thielke and Hafizov up again at 59kg. Thielke up 1-0

Overhooks lead to no score for Hafizov. Thielke looking very aggressive and forceful, but Hafizov is a seasoned vet and won't go away easily.

Mensah with a blast double while on the shot clock. Leads 2-0

Thielke nearly with a 4 point throw from neutral, ref only confirms 2. 2-0 Thielke leads. Hafizov nearly got a big toss of his own, but was waved off due to an offensive legs call. 2-o at the break

Mensah gets another 2 right before the break. Leads 4-0 to start the 2nd

Mensah continues to cruise, another double leads to a 6-0 lead. Roberts just has no answer for Mensah, but then again, no one has today. She looks to be a strong contender at Rio. Now it's 8-0, 40 secs left. Mensah wins dominantly 8-1, will be heading to Rio

Thielke in par terre after passivity warning, Hafizov unable to score with it. One point for Hafizov on a near-toss. Thielke did a great job of minimizing the damage. 2-1 still, Thielke in front. Nice scramble gives Thielke 2 points for back exposure. Leads 4-1...30 seconds from an Olympic berth. Hafizov Nearly pins Thielks with a headlock. They only give Hafizov 2, so Thielke will win if the challenge isn't upheld.

Long delay here as they look at it...Thielke wins 8-3. Hafizov is pissed, Thielke wins the 59kg title in impressive fashion

Sitting here behind DingoBrigade, just interviewed Kayla Miracle for the South Bend Tribune.

She's not happy at all, says she didn't feel like herself all day, felt sluggish even in her wins.

You can check out the story in Sunday's South Bend Tribune.  Go to: www.southbendtribune.com

Gotta get in a plug to justify my expenses.

Thielke just told Shane Sparks he likes Greco because he likes throwing guys on their domes. Nice work there

Gotta say, you should read Tim's article on Kayla Miracle. I heard some of  the audio and it's good stuff. She's a classy athlete and Tim asked her a lot of pertinent questions.

Clodgo down 4-0 to Pirozhkova quickly, as she slips on a throw attempt and Elena makes her pay

Pirozhkova back to the Olympics in dominant fashion, pins Clodgo. Still the best in the USA by a good margin

Provisor and Clark up again. Differing body types and styles. Clark was on a roll until their first match. Provisor looking very strong today, literally. The guy is a mini-Hercules. Gets a quick 2 on the edge of the mat, leads 2-0 over Clark. It looks like it's just Provisor's day. He has been the best at the weight all day.

Provisor down in par terre, Clark looking to make hay on the mat...Provisior penalized for a closed base, tied up 2-2.

Provisor counters Clark and pins him. Clark challenging, but I can't see this changing the outcome. Provisor is just a beast

Provisor wins by fall. Very impressive performance today by Provisor. Big hugs after the match between Clark and Provisor, after some seriously intense wrestling.

Rey and Dlagnev up now. Rey needs a win to avoid elimination.

Rey back to working the head, trying to keep Dlagnev out of space. Rey has notoriously strong hands and grip, so it makes sense that he plays to his strengths. Still, he hasn't shown that he can translate his style into points vs Dlagnev

Rey penalized for passivity, and is on the shot clock. Doesn't come close to scoring, Dlagnev gets a point. Rey might want to rethink his strategy. He is slowing Dlagnev's offense, but he's mustering absolutely zero offense of his own. 1-0 Dlagnev leads at the break.

Rey gets a penalty point against Dlagnev, then counters a Dlagnev shot to take a 3-1 lead. Tervel gets a double leg on the edge of the mat to tie it at 3-3, with criteria to Dlagnev currently.

Rey deep on a single, Dlagnev fights it off, wins 5-3, will head back to the Olympics. Rey wrestled much better this match, but it was too little, too late.

Dlagnev gave another great interview

Molinaro and Pico up now for their rubber match. PIco out again with the heavy paws. Molinaro is one tough customer, though; Both warned for passivity a minute in. Shotclock for Molinaro. Molinaro has had great lateral movement all day. He's in phenomenal shape. No score for Molinaro gives Pico a point. As he's done a couple of times now against Pico, Molinaro rushes in on the restart and gets a big throw. He leads 4-1 heading into the break.

Pico wrestling with urgency, but hasn't pulled the trigger yet....finally gets a TD after countering a deep Molinaro shot. 4-3, 90 secs left

Molinaro back on the shotclock, but he holds the criteria tiebreaker with his big 4 point move. Pico needs to get busy. 4-4 tie with 30 seconds left.

Molinaro wins 4-4. beat every opponent by criteria, but you have to give the guy his due

Smith and Perkins up now. A lot of people left after the Pico/Molinaro match

Sorry, Molinaro beat everyone by criteria after teching Russell.

Perkins gets three rolls on Smith, leads 6-0. Smith's camp throws a challenge. SMith wins the challenge, so it's 4-0 Perkins leads. Pretty deep hole for Smith, but he's experienced and tough

Williams and Rau getting very chippy now, very physical.

Williams in par terre, looking for a turn. Rau gets a couple of guts, leads 4-0. WIlliams in a deep hole. 4-0 Rau leads at the break.

Near TD by Williams called a slip, still 4-0

Rau in par terre, Williams loooking for the big lift, gets it....4 point toss on Rau's head....4-4 criteria in Williams favor. He is just a monster on top in par terre. Just like that, WIlliams storms back. Rau needs some offense in the last minute. Rau very nearly pushes Williams out, but Caylor deftly turns him aside at the last second and, instead, scores a pushout point himself. It's now 5-4. Very nearly a HUGE throw for Rau. Instead, Williams minimized the damage, making it a 2 instead. 6-5 Rau. Rau holds on and wins 6-5. So much for a medal for Williams. Rau impressive in victory

That's it for today. See you all bright and early

Amazing run by Molinaro. Seemed to catch lightning in a bottle. However, my confidence level isn't super high for him to qualify this weight.

On another note, why would any top wrestler go anywhere but Penn St? They are dominating everyone in college and now potentially in international styles. Will be interested to see how Taylor, Megeludis, Ruth, etc do today

Sarah Hildebrandt has a very tough bracket but she has been working hard and can do it.  Go Sarah!!

Tomasello and Megaludis are wrestling first round.  Should be an interesting match.

Interested to see how Taylor Walsh does, it should fit in to his style.

Molinaro has shown signs of this his past few outings, but not for 5 straight matches. Most recently he controlled Cuba's top guy at Pan Am's the week before the Cuban crushed world silver medalist franklin gomez at olympic qualifying. He also split with pico and lost 4-4 to Oliver at the Farrell Open a few months ago.

Read Tim Creason's article and pass the word on to your friends and acquaintances.

Day 2

Escobedo got taken down for a 4 pointer by Garrett, responds with a 4 pointer. Garrett comes back with 3 and 1 for a pushout. Angel gets a big throw to Garrett's back. THey give it 2. Angel's corner throws the challenge. They want 4. 8-6 as it stands now

Angel wins the challenge. 8-8. Garrett immediately responds with a TD and gutwrench to take a 12-8 lead. what a match.

Looks like Colon took out Blanc

Chun a winner

Gholston a winner

Angel loses 12-9. Garrett is the real deal. Bummer. Angel clearly dejected and hate seeing that

Megaludis up 3-0 very quickly over Tomasello

Wateres down 2-0 early to Tadzhimetov

Waters with a TD and gut, then another. 6-3 over the former Uzbek citizen Tadzhimetov. Waters really turned it on, got another TD and another gut...wins it 10-3. Very impressive

Megaludis not allowing NATO to control his head or torso. Keeping plenty of space, which Nico prefers, obviously

NATO with a big move, takes a 4-3 lead. Nico challenges...it's changed to a one pointer. 3-1 Megaludis leads. Pushout by NATO 3-2

Mark Hall and Massa up but scoreless so far. TD Hall, leads 2-0, TD Massa, reversal Hall...3-2 Hall leads

Manville up 4-0 on Tarrence Williams in Greco at 75kg

Late TD by Tomasello wins it 4-3 over Megaludis

Manville, the HSer, wins by tech

Wow, Massa throwing Hall all over the mat, takes an 8-7 lead

Taylor Walsh wins by fall over Cory Hope. Huge opening match for the former IU standout

9-7 Massa leads Hall. Hall with a huge toss from an inside trip.  Massa deep on Hall's legs, Hall somehow swivels around, gets the TD himself. Now leads Massa 13-9. Helluva match here. 20 secs left. Massa with a a TD, looks for the turn, can't get it. Hall wins a tough match, 13-11 over Massa

The Penn State guys keeping it going. Vallimont leading Dombrovskiy 3-0, 1 minute left

Vallimont wins an impressive opener, 5-0 over Dombrovskiy

J'Den Cox down to Clayton Foster 5-3 at the break. Cox was down 5-1, got behind Foster, took about 20 seconds to break Foster's tripod for the 2. Back from the break, Cox with a quick TD, ties it 5-5 and gains criteria advantage

Godley and Levalley scoreless. Godley with a pushout. Both are getting very physical with the hands

Former Illinois prep wrestler Dillan Cowan beats Bleau in Greco 4-2

Longendyke techs Griggs in big boy Greco action.

Maroulis with 2 quick TDs, opens up a quick lead against Powell

Foster slides around Cox, gets 2, takes a 7-5 lead. A TD could win it for Cox...HE GETS IT!!! wins 7-7. Great match for the Mizzou junior

Levalley with a TD, takes a 2-1 lead

Maroulis by tech, meaning Hildebrandt is up against Chessin

Levalley opens up a 6-4 lead....wins over Godley 6-3

Ruth with a pushout over the stocky Winn...1-0, challenge comes out for Winn's corner, for some strange reason.

Sarah comes out aggressive, using forceful snaps and hands to the head. Chessin dodging deftly. Chessin put on the shotclock. Sarah gets a TD on Chessin's shotclock to lead 2-0. Sarah looking very physically tough today. Nice quickness for Chessin allows her to slough off of a Hildebrandt shot and slide by for 2...we're tied 2-2 at the break. Criteria with Chessin for now

Winn loses the challenge, now trails 2-0 against Ruth. Ruth TD, makes it 4-0. Ruth really opening up now, leads 8-0...now 10-0 for the tech win

Trotman up 2-0 with a double leg landing out of bounds. Pushout for Reader makes it 2-1

Sharon Jacobson up 8-1 over Jessica Medina...Now 8-3, under a minute left

Wily old vet Jacobson wins 8-3 over Medina

Godley and Reader tied at 4-4. TD for Reader, leads 6-4

Perry and Caldwell up now. They exchange TDs and Caldwell gets a reversal. TD for Perry near the edge makes it 4-3 Perry leads.

Looked like Hildebrandt had the TD, no score given. Still 2-2. Still seems to be the aggressor. Gets an upper body lock, whips Chessin down, exposes her back for two.....looking for more, gets 2 more, up 8-2, looking for the fall...back to neutral. Wow, looks like Sarah hurt her knee. Still wrestling, but, damn, not good for the day ahead.

Fulp Allen wins by tech

Hildebrandt dominant in period 2. wins 10-2. She limps off the platform. Not good. Coach Snyder congratulates her, pretty awesome he's here.

Reader up 8-6 now, but Trotman has an active challenge....Wow, he won the challenge, now leads 8-6. Incredible change of events....pushout makes it 9-6...Trotman beats Reader in a thriller

Perry up 9-4 on Caldwell in period 2

Fulp-Allen awaits Hildebrandt next round. With a bum knee....ouch

Perry 10-4 over Caldwell. Very impressive.

Micah Burak and Enock Francois scoreless in period 1

Gadson and Kleinschmidt up on mat 3

Cheney Haight is next for Taylor Walsh

Mark Hall is next for Andrew Howe

Gadson slides by Kleinschmidt, takes a 2-0 lead

Francois leads Burak 1-0

In women's action, Deanna Betterman up 3-0 late in her match against Samantha Klingel

Carlene Sluberski wins by tech over Amy Fearnside

Link to comment

Francois and Burak tied 1-1, less than a minute left. Criteria currently with Burak. Late point wins it for Francois

Gadson up 3-0 on Kleinschmidt. He has nice movement for a big guy. Wins 3-2

Huge controversy on mat 1. Wrestler Renee Samano missed her 3rd and final call to be on the mat, so a forfeit was given to Mollinari. Samano came out right after the final call...the crowd went nuts wanting her to be able to wrestle...and USA wrestling caved and let her wrestle!! after a Mollinari's hand was raised! Anyway, Mollinari came out pissed and took her down and ran some nasty arm bars to take a 4-0 lead
