stateorbust
Did I miss something, or what? I haven't seen or heard anything about when this will be announced. Sorry if I missed it, but I've looked and didn't see it anywhere. Thanks.

MCKAJC
https://youtu.be/G6pTXUd3IGs?t=1h26m5s 2016 #IndianaMat Awards Coach of the Year 1A- Brett Smith of Prairie Heights 2A- Mark Kerrn of Jimtown 3A- Darrick Snyder of Brownsburg Wrestler of the Year 1A- Evan Ellis of Eastern 2A- Brock Hudkins of Danville 3A- Blake Rypel of Cathedral Mr. Gorilla 2nd runner-up- Drew Hughes of Lowell 1st runner-up- Shawn Streck of Merrillville Mr. Gorilla- Chad Red of New Palestine sorry dude. IMO a swing and miss on drew hughes as 2nd runner up. Red is #1 at 132 and won his 4th. But hughes has done it all this season both during and after the hs season. he has been a road warrior as well maxing out his frequent flyer miles "making weight" and winning. Getting his college plans set hasn't slowed him down either. There is NO "dig me" in this kid. For me if there's a face of IN wrestling the we project to the national wrestling community in 2016 I'll take Drew Hughes! All that and a bag a chips!! Y2CJ41
Mr. Gorilla is voted on by fans and many coaches, media, and administrators from around the state. We had around 30 voters this year.

TripleB
After state there was no comparison, it was Red head and shoulders above everybody else. The voting took place that next week. datdude
Dingo Brigade
And he still hasn't lost, he just made some poor decisions. I think he is still the best choice, given what he accomplished on the mat. That said, Hughes has been unbelievable and has opened a lot of eyes nationally. He's risen to a new level.
datdude
Just about every unbiased indiana wrestling fan in my opinion would concur that chad red is and deserves to be the face of indiana high school wrestling. I think we knew in January that the winner of the red lee match would be Mr Gorilla. Chad not making weight created an opportunity for his critics to take shots. I am not however condoning his lack of making weight but that shouldn't tarnish what he has done for Indiana wrestling. Also if I recall correctly plecther was over at who's number 1. Chad made weight and still wrestled and won. STUD!!!
datdude
Hughes has looked phenomenal. I am super impressed with him. Seems like the loss to marinelli motivated him. Not taking anything away from him i think chad is just on a different tier.
Y2CJ41
Just as a clarification the Mr. Gorilla award only goes to a senior so Nick Lee was ineligible this year. Guys like Streck, Hughes, and Rypel all had fantastic season and careers. They would be a favorite to win the award almost any year there isn't a four-timer. datdude
