Petrov loses a heartbreaker, 9-8 in 2OT...hung onto a leg, fully standing on his feet, working for a reversal to win in criteria, but instead the Edinboro kid dives on an ankle and they don't even end up awarding the escape.  He doesn't get away and falls 9-8 after battling back from a 3 point deficit in regulation.

Oliver wins 8-2.

Oliver will face the champ, Tomasello, in the Round of 16 tonight.

Alex Griffin on deck Mat 6

Sabatello falls 5-0...tied 0-0 late in the 2nd against the 3 seed and comes within a toenail of a takedown on the edge.  Everything comes apart after that.

Round of 16 matches for first round winners:

#16 Oliver vs. #1 Tomasello (Ohio St.)

#6 Tsirtsis vs. #11 Collica (Oklahoma St.)

#8 Welch vs. #9 Weatherman (Iowa St.)

#12 Jackson vs. #5 Brunson (Illinois)

#15 Harvey vs. Weatherspoon (Iowa St.)

Big round here because getting to the quarterfinals gives you two one-off shots at being an All-American, and even if you lose in the quarters the All-American round wrestle back match that follows is most likely against a non-top 8 seed.

Fantastic opportunity for Harvey here, as Weatherspoon took out #2 Realbuto.  Also a golden opportunity for Jackson if he could pull the upset, with rampant upsets at his weight guaranteeing he would face an unseeded wrestler in the quarters.  If Welch is going to be an All-American, this is the match he most likely needs to win, also, to make that happen.  Oliver is a huge underdog here, unfortunately, and he'll most likely need significant work in the wrestle backs.  Lastly, Tsirtsis can still put a nice cap on a disappointing season by placing high at this tournament.  A win over Collica would be another nice confidence boost to go with the Sueflohn win from Big 10s.

Welch on deck Mat 5.

Tsirtsis' disappointing season continues.  He falls 3-2 on a controversial takedown in the 2nd period.  Limited legitimate attempts by JT until he was desperate, unfortunately.
