DECATUR, Ind. (21Alive) - Longtime Bellmont wrestling head coach B.J. Faurote has retired.

The team announced Thursday that Faurote is hanging up the head gear after 27 seasons as head coach.

Faurote compiled a 576-78-2 record (87.8 percent winning).

During his tenure, the Braves won the 1994 state championship, 3 state runners-up, 14 semi-states championships, 19 regional championships, 24 sectional championships and 20 conference championships.

As a student, Faurote won the 1980 state championship in the 98-lb. weight class.

He was inducted into the Indiana Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

Congratulations to my friend Josh Holden. I know that you will make Southport into a winner but I will still miss competing against you in our duals. Also, all the best to Coach Hamant as he takes over the Greenfield program. Ed has been there for all but one of the state champions the program has produced and I am glad GC has chosen him to keep up the Cougar tradition.
