Po-Tweet
I believe during Cash's interview he was asked about being only the 5th (maybe 4th) State champ that pinned all four opponents in the finals. I don't know if that stat was correct or if I even heard it correct, but seems bizarre if it is true, that 3 wrestlers did it this year (2 juniors)... Can anyone confirm? It seems that an argument could be made for 2015 state champs as being the most dominant as a whole...
nosoccermomhere
You did hear. Followed by tommys, " huh, I did not know that. That's good to know". Coach Peck
If I heard right (and if their info is correct) Cash was the 4th and Rypel the 5th to pin all for opponents. I know James Dickerson pinned all of his opponents in 1995 on his way to the State Championship (if I remember correctly it was three in the 1st period and one in the 2nd period...his time on the mat to win it all was probably the shortest ever). I thought D.J. Radnovich pinned all four of his opponents as well. I am not sure who the 3rd person would have been.
TripleB
I was thinking Radnovich also, but maybe his semi-finals match wasn't, not sure.... Man...I had 3 going into the finals my junior year, 2 first periods and a second period...I think I had 4 first period falls in 2 years.
Po-Tweet
Miles Nilson - Winemac 1986, had all pins. Impressive - that means it happened 3xs before Saturday and then 3xs in the same finals, 2 of the 3 could do it again next year... In fact, he pinned all but 1 opponent (semi-state I believe) that year. His performance in the State Finals was one of the most impressive I've ever seen. I'm not sure any of the 4 matches lasted longer than the 1st period. Edited February 24, 2015 by tonyb71
TripleB
Yeah I looked it up, 4:12, 1:26, :52, and 1:10 For some reason I thought Ian Spearman from Southport had given him a good match, but when I looked it up they didn't even wrestle at state. I must be getting old...
CoachM
Didn't Trey Reece pin everyone throughout the entire state tournament series, sectionals thru state?
JoeCoffey
I'm thinking DJ wrestling Ian at semi state. Was Southport at evansville SS then?

Silvertone1696
Tommy Cash's is particularly special me because of the weight because the five other newest entries are 195 and up. This is the lowest weight class to do it for 80 some years. Kinda cool

Richard Jay - editor Mat Burns Wrestling New and Information matburns83@yahoo.com You seem to have access to some great archives. How long has the State finals format been a 16 man format? I am pretty sure it used to be a 4 man and an 8 man format. Were the 4 pin champs from the 30s all in the same tournament? I am trying to see where the interviewer came up with the stat that Cash was the 4th.
AJ
Does Streck or Rypel have a shot to break the record for most pins in the State finals? That would be an impressive career feat... Blake had 3 pins last year... Streck had 1 pin last year.. Edited February 25, 2015 by AJ

SooperBod
Yeah, but when he wrestled it was like boxing in the 1900s. You wrestled till someone got pinned. Sometimes matches lasted 3-4 hours. The next day both guys would attend school, practice, and work a full shift at the steel mill. The one I don't have is Ray Frankowski - Hammond High. 3X Champ in 1935, '36, '37.
