Just heard on WZBD that Bellmont's Bryce Baumgartner is injury defaulting. He was not cleared after the concussion last week. They opted to allow him to go since the alternate was tech falled at Semi-State and it would have messed up West Nobles draw. Tough break for Bryce.

Well as a coach who was sitting next to that alternate when Bryce went out and defaulted it was kind of confusing and hard to take. It denied our kid the experience of coming down just to save someones draw. Well i am glad the other kids that were hurt and couldn't compete let their alternates wrestle. Just very disappointed.

The kid whose draw didn't get screwed up has a win over Bryce this year. Not to be rude but state berths need to be earned.

He might not have found out he couldn't wrestle til this afternoon. It was probably too late to make the change.

On face value this does look like a raw deal. But, looking into some of the fact it can turn into more of a grey area of the "right thing to do."

By Bryce staying in the bracket it keeps Weimer in his original position. Which On paper gives him the best shot at making it the the semi-finals and placing high. If Baumgartner pulls out of the bracket it moves Weimer into an opening round match with Koontz (3rd last year) and on paper a good chance of not making it out Friday. Since Weimer had previously beaten Baumgartner this year and the alternate on paper wasn't a strong candidate to win his opening round match against Helm it seems like a stand up act for Bryce (and his coaches) to stay in the bracket to help ensure Weimer has the best oppertunity possible. Sure it does prevent an alternate from having the state experience (which sucks) but after looking at it closer this seems like a decent decision in a scenerio where someone besides Bryce doesn't end up with the best case senerio.

It couldn't have been too late as long as the alternate was ready to go. When Hudkins got sick AT WEIGH INS last year, they were still able to put the alternate in. No dog in the fight... Just pointing out that it wouldn't have been too late.

The situation sucks for Bryce and the alternate both.

I thought it was just a forfeit
